STATES.

In

the Biological

Survey

collectionare

two

undescril)ed species of Ml/Otis, rein-esented

by specimens from near

Needles, Cali- fornia,

and

the

mountains

of

New Mexico. Both

are interesting

from

thefact that

they

exhibit

a tendency toward

the

crowding out

ofthe

middle upper premolar, an unusual condition

in this

genus. Six out

of the eight skulls

examined

lackthis particular tooth.

The specimens were

collected

during

the

course

of field

work

forthe Biological

Survey.

Nearest to

peninsularis but smaller; forearm shorter; ears smaller; tragus shorterwithblunttij). Calcar longerthan freeborderofinterfemoral

membrane, which

isnearly

naked

rich

glossybrown, nearest to Front's

brown

of

Ridgway

butwith a

cinnamon

tint; face

and

underparts

much

paler with decided huffycast; ears

and membranes

brown.

One

ofthe

two

specimens, the type,lacksthemiddle upper premolarofMyotis asheretofore diagnosed, leaving the

normal

dentitionofthespecies some-

what

indoubt.

specimens, including thetype,lack the middle upper premolar; teeth otherwiseessentially as invelifer.
