fordetermination by the New York Botanical Garden,
aretwo ap- parently new
specieswhich
aredescribed below.
Achyranthes crassifolia Standi., sp. nov.
Stems branched, probably prostrate, the branches stout,
when young
densely covered with straight, appressed,
smooth
or slightlyhispidulous hairs,glabrate inage; leaveslinear or linear-oblanceolate, sessileornearly so,7-18mm.
long,1-2.5mm.
wide,narrowedtothebase,acuteatthe apex, fleshy, glabrate, the margins revolute; heads axillary, sessile, solitary or glomerate, 4-8mm.
long, about 4mm.
in diameter, theflowersyellowish white; bractsand
bractlets half as longas thesepals or shorter, broadly ovate,sparselypilose;sepalsbroadlyovate, 2.5mm.
long,obtuse oracutish, 3-ribbed, short-mucronate, pilose, especially near the base; stamen tube veryshort,thestaminodiaminuteorwanting;utriclelessthanhalf aslong asthe calyx.Type
