CONCLUSION

The last part of the research is drawing conclusion to get brief explanation. This part contains a summary of what I researched. The conclusion of this research elucidates the types of women’s language features used by Enola Holmes and Tewkesbury in the Enola Holmes movie script. This conclusion also describes the functions of women’s language features that refer to implicit meaning.

In the Enola Holmes movie script, I have found nine out of ten women’s language features that are used by Enola Holmes and Tewkesbury; there are lexical hedges or fillers, tag questions, rising intonations, empty adjectives, intensifiers, hypercorrect grammar, superpolite forms, avoidance of strong swear words, and emphatic stress.

Enola Holmes is the first character analyzed in this research. There are 130 women’s language features used by Enola Holmes, which are 22 features of lexical hedges, 10 features of tag questions, 20 features of rising intonations, 9 features of empty adjectives, 9 features of intensifiers, 32 of hypercorrect grammar, 13 features of superpolite forms, 1 feature of avoidance of strong swear words, and 14 features of emphatic stress. Enola Holmes uses nine of ten women’s language features. I could not find the precise color term feature in Enola Holmes’s utterance. The most frequent women’s language features that are used by Enola Holmes are lexical hedges or fillers and hypercorrect grammar.

Tewkesbury, a man who used women’s language features, is the second character analyzed in this research. There are 79 women’s language features used by Tewkesbury, which are 24 features of lexical hedges, 2 features of tag questions, 18 features of rising intonations, 3 features of empty adjectives, 5 features of intensifiers, 15 features of hypercorrect grammar, 8 features of superpolite forms, 1 feature of avoidance of strong swear word, and 3 features of emphatic stress.

Tewkesbury uses nine of ten women’s language features. I also could not find the precise color term feature in Tewkesbury’s utterance. The most frequent women’s

There are 7 women’s language functions found in the Enola Holmes movie script, they are to express uncertainty, to get a response, to start a discussion, to soften the utterance, to express opinions or feelings, to fill the absence of the utterance, and to emphasize the utterance. Each function of women’s language is only used by Enola Holmes. The lexical hedges or fillers are used by Enola Holmes to express her uncertainty, to start a discussion, to fill the absence of the utterance, and to emphasize the utterance. The tag questions, intensifiers, and rising intonations are used by Enola Holmes to get a response and to emphasize the utterance. The empty adjectives, and emphatic stress are used by Enola Holmes to express her feelings and opinions toward things. Hypercorrect grammar, superpolite forms, and avoidance of strong swear words are used by Enola Holmes to soften her utterance as a lady.

Regarding the difference between Enola Holmes and Tewkesbury using women’s language features, in this research, the result shows that men use women’s language features to show their positions in society and respect for other people.

Tewkesbury uses women’s language features to indicate his respect for women, especially Enola Holmes because he respects her as he respects his mother. Enola Holmes uses women’s language features in order to show her femininity to the public. A long time ago, women were meant to be gentle, soft, polite, and hospitable creatures to create a peaceful situation. Enola Holmes is known as a stubborn woman in her family, but she still maintains her politeness and graceful to other people to maintain her identity as a woman. These women’s language features describe herself as truly young lady in society.

Tewkesbury also wants to be seen as a man with dignity by his people because he is the next respectable lord of the British parliament. If he uses strong swear words, command and directive language, and minimal response to others, his existence, and image as the next respectable lord will be broken. When Tewkesbury uses the women’s language features, sometimes he also wants to get attention from the same gender as a polite man. It is consequential for Tewkesbury so that men do

He knows how to make a different conversation between the people in the British parliament, Enola Holmes, his family, and his people.

This research is expected to give wider knowledge of sociolinguistics, especially in women’s language features to the next researchers. Many distinctive language features can be found in this research. I hope that this research can be more useful to make the readers understood women’s language features and their functions which refer to implicit meaning and how gender uses women’s language features in society.
