Cherrington, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named president of the American Diabetes Association. He also recently became a member of the Advisory Council and the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). Cowan, MD, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, was recently elected to the editorial board of the journal Synapse.
Johnson is the Cornelius Abernathy Craig Professor of Oncology and Deputy Director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. In addition to being elected president of the ALA, Ossoff received the prestigious deRoaldes Medal at the meeting. At Vanderbilt, he held various positions in the Department of Dermatology, including Division Chief.
He was also director of the Wilkes-Alleghany Cancer Center and is survived by longtime friend and companion Ruth Graham, one daughter and two grandchildren. In addition to Vanderbilt, he was a professor at Columbia University and was head of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Chicago. She practiced psychiatry in the Palo Alto area for nearly 50 years and was past president of the Peninsula Psychiatric Association.
He was a founding faculty member of the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, and the first associate dean for administration of the medical school. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is survived by two children and four grandchildren. He also started the medical oncology program, one of the first in the nation, and helped lay the framework for the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center.
