WORK DISCIPLINE AND COMMUNICATION AGAINST JOB PERFORMANCE

Abstract

Over time, competition in the world of economic, social and technological development is quite fierce and does not occur in a particular area but has spread evenly throughout the region. In Indonesia itself, there are many companies, both small, medium and large, so that companies are forced to compete and be tight in maintaining the survival of the company to further increase its competitive advantage. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of work discipline on employee performance at PT. Rembaka La Tulipe Cosmetiques. To analyze the influence of communication on employee performance at PT. Rembaka La Tulipe Cosmetiques. The research method used is multiple linear regression statistical methods. The results of testing the first hypothesis which examines the effect of work discipline on work performance indicate that there is a significant effect of work discipline on work performance at La Tulipe Cosmetics Branch of Jember. This means that if the work discipline increases, it will increase the level of work performance and vice versa if the discipline of work decreases it will decrease the work performance at La Tulipe Cosmetics, Jember Branch. The results of the second hypothesis testing which tested the effect of communication on work performance indicated that there was a significant influence of communication on work performance at La Tulipe Cosmetics Jember Branch. This means that if communication increases it will increase the level of work performance and vice versa if communication decreases it will decrease work performance at La Tulipe Cosmetics Jember branch.

INTRODUCTION

Over time, competition in the world of economic, social and technological development is quite fierce and does not occur in a particular area but has spread evenly throughout the region. In Indonesia itself, there are many companies, both small, medium and large, so that companies are forced to compete and be tight in maintaining the survival of the company to further increase its competitive advantage (Vika, 2017) . The success of a company in carrying out its operational activities is inseparable from its work discipline, because it can have a positive impact on efforts to achieve company goals. One of the effectiveness of a company can be assessed from the effectiveness of employees in understanding and completing work according to the company's time standards. For a company, in maintaining its survival, it is always influenced by various factors related to employment problems, one of which is the problem of employee performance which tends not to comply with the standards set by the company. Based on the results of interviews with supervisors at PT. Rembaka La Tulipe Cosmetiques found problems with decreased work performance, this can be seen from the decline in turnover that was not in accordance with the targets set by the company, which proved that the company's targets were not achieved due to the lack of work discipline in terms of incomplete reporting. punctuality and delays at work. Another cause is thought to be due to poor communication between employee relations within the company, while poor employee relations occur due to a lack of coordination between La Tulipe employees and LT PRO employees who should be able to work together well in order to aim for mutual progress. From these problems, the work atmosphere in the company becomes less disciplined and effective, therefore this problem also has an impact on employee work performance and does not achieve the targets set by the company ( Source: Results of

interviews with La Tulipe Supervisors). Meanwhile, according to Sutrisno (2010) , human resource management is the empowerment, development, assessment, research, remuneration and management of individual members of organizations or groups of workers.

METHOD

This type of research is quantitative research by looking for a cause and effect relationship (causal). Quantitative research that leads to a philosophical view of positivism. The philosophy of positivism holds that phenomena in research can be clarified, relatively fixed, concrete, observable, measurable, and the relationship of symptoms is causal. In this study, trying to find relationships or cause and effect of the variables, this research design is called a causal research design (Paramita & Rizal, 2018) . To analyze the independent variables consisting of 2 (two) variables, namely work discipline and communication to the dependent variable, namely work performance, this study uses multiple linear regression analysis techniques where there is an equation using tools to determine the effect of one or more independent variables on the dependent variable. (Siregar, 2015) , using such techniques can then test the hypothesis that there is influence between the independent variables and communication work discipline on the dependent variable that is pres t ation of employees at PT. Rembaka La Tulipe Cosmetiques. The sample is part of the number and characteristics possessed by the population. The technique used for sampling in this study is non-probability sampling ( saturated samples or censuses). Saturated sample is a sampling technique in which all members of the population are used as samples. It is often used when a relatively small population of less than 30 people or a study wants to make a generalization with very few errors. Another definition of saturated sample is the total sample or census, where all members of the population are sampled (Sugiyono, 2015).

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Research result

The results of this study are described as follows:

Based on Table 1, it can be seen that the most respondents who become employees of the Jember branch latulipe are respondents whose majority age ≤ 25 years is 100%. Due to a productive age and already have work experience that is mature enough to be able to make a good contribution to the company. R esponden-sex male 6% and women by 94%. Respondents have high school education by 80%, while the minority of respondents who are employees of La Tulipe Jember Stara 1 branch is 20%. This proves that the Jember branch latulipe has a fairly high quality of human resources because of the level of education. Respondents who have worked for ≤3 and 3- 5 years are 50%. This states that the employees of the Jember branch of La Tulipe have loyalty to the company and feel comfortable working in the company so that employees can last a long time working at the company.

From the table above, it can be seen the magnitude of the correlation coefficient of all statement items consisting of 5 statement items from various variables each. From the calculation of the correlation coefficient, all of them have r count greater than the minimum r (0 , 3 ). Thus, all statement items are declared valid. In conclusion, all statement items in the research instrument can be declared feasible as a research instrument because they can extract the required data or information.

The recapitulation of the reliability test results shows the Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient for the work discipline variable (X1) of 0.693, the Communication variable (X2) of 0.701, and the work performance variable (Y) of 0.674. Then the results of the reliability test for the variables in this study obtained the results of the questionnaire on work discipline, communication, and work performance, namely reliable, so it can be concluded that the questionnaire used in this study is a reliable questionnaire because it can give results that are not different if re-measurement is done the same subject at different times.

The test results show that all the variables used as predictors of the regression model show quite small VIF values, where all of them are below 10 and the tolerance value is more than 0.1. This means that the independent variables used in the study do not show any symptoms of multicollinearity, which means that all independent variables in this study are mutually independent, so that they can be continued in multiple linear regression testing.

The results of the heteroscedasticity test showed that there was no clear pattern from these points. This shows that the regression model has no symptoms of heteroscedasticity, which means that there is no significant disturbance in this regression model.

Research Discussion

In general, this study shows the results of descriptive analysis that the condition of the respondents' assessment of the variables of this study is generally good. This can be shown from the number of responses from the respondents' high agreement on the conditions of each research variable. The empirical data of this study shows that work discipline and communication have very important effects on work performance.

The influence of work discipline on work performance

The results of hypothesis testing on the effect of work discipline on work performance show that there is a significant effect of work discipline on work performance at La Tulipe cosmetic, Jember branch. The results of this study explain why work discipline affects work performance. These results are shown by the existence of a statement item on the work discipline questionnaire consisting of (1) the regulations for the hours of entry & return from work from the company have been effective for employees , (2) getting four days off in one, (3) working on reports every day, (4) ) The boss will give a warning if, (5) Wearing a uniform according to the Company SOP. This can be explained that the work discipline variable affects work performance at work. Work discipline itself is part of a very important component for employees in carrying out work activities. By paying attention to good work discipline or creating working conditions that are able to provide quality human resources, it can be said that they are of quality when they have the ability to carry out the authority and responsibility given to them. When the work discipline created at the Jember branch of La Tulipe cosmetic has met the standards obtained from this activity, the results are good and positive. It is proven by the growing development of La Tulipe cosmetic, Jember branch. The results of hypothesis testing on the effect of work discipline on work performance show that the discipline of collaboration with several previous studies, including research by NA Rozalia (2015) , Widari (2016) , Azwar (2015) , Liyas (2017) with research results that state that discipline work has a significant effect on work performance. In simple terms, it can be concluded that work discipline is very influential on work performance at the Jember branch of La Tulipe cosmetic, because each employee has a different discipline in working, performing and carrying out each task Zainul (2012) , in his study "The Effect of Work Environment and Work Discipline and Motivation Work on Employee Performance in Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) Lumajang Regency. The effect of the independent variables, namely X1, X2 and X3 simultaneously on the dependent variable, namely Y, is the variation of the actual changes explained by the independent variables (X1, X2, X3) simultaneously affecting the variation of changes in the dependent variable (Y). Sulystianto & Santosa (2013) , entitled "The Influence of Motivation from Leaders, Compensation and Work Discipline on Employee Performance (Class II Tanjung Emas Fish Quarantine Center - Semarang)". Motivation from the leadership, compensation and discipline has a positive and significant effect on the performance of employees at the Class II Fish Quarantine Center of Tanjung Emas Semarang. Faradistia (2013) with the results of research on motivation, career paths, and work discipline simultaneously and partially

simultaneously and partially on employee performance. Syahputra (2012) writes about "The Influence of Supervision, Work Discipline and Compensation on Employee Performance of Aceh Province Financial Management and Wealth Management Office ". Good work discipline will be able to make employees improve work performance. Akbari (2019) In conclusion, there is a moderate relationship between employee relations and work discipline and employee performance.

Andreas (2018) The test results with simple linear regression, correlation, and determination show that the discipline variable (X) has a partially significant positive effect on employee performance (Y).

Effect of Communication on Job Performance

The results of hypothesis testing on the influence of communication on work performance indicate that there is a significant influence of communication on work performance at La Tulipe cosmetic, Jember branch. Communication is one of the most important things in human life. The importance of communication for humans cannot be denied as well as for an organization (Muhammad, 2017). The results of this study explain why motivation affects work performance. These results are shown by the statement items on the communication questionnaire consisting of (1) Communicating effectively with work partners, (2) Delivering company-determined events / promos to consumers, (3) providing clear product information to consumers, (4) ) Communicate effectively with the work owner, (5) Communicate effectively with SPV. This can happen because employees in this study conclude that they need very adequate communication, because in carrying out their duties there must be conversations that are quite competent and professional. The results of this study are also relevant to research by Hapsari (2015) , Hery (2016) , with research results. shows that communication has a significant effect on work performance. In this condition, it is suggested to La Tulipe cosmetic Jember branch to continue to improve communication between employees because communication is a supporting factor / impetus for each employee to do work. so that it can be ascertained that work performance will increase.

CONCLUSION

From research aims to determine the effect of variable work discipline and communication partially on work performance decision at La Tulipe COSMETIK Jember branch, using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. From the formulation of the problem, the objectives and research hypotheses as well as the discussion of the research results that have been stated in the previous chapter, several conclusions can be drawn from this study as follows : The results of testing the first hypothesis which examines the effect of work discipline on work performance indicate that there is a significant influence on work discipline. work achievements at the La Tulipe Cosmetics branch in Jember. This means that if the work discipline increases, it will increase the level of work performance and vice versa if the discipline of work decreases it will decrease the work performance at La Tulipe Cosmetics, Jember Branch. The results of the second hypothesis testing which tested the effect of communication on work performance indicated that there was a significant influence of communication on work performance at La Tulipe Cosmetics Jember Branch. This means that if communication increases it will increase the level of work performance and vice versa if communication decreases it will decrease work performance at La Tulipe Cosmetics Jember branch.
