ADOPT CLEAN STEEL MAKING TECHNOLOGIES : RINL CMD

Sri AP Choudhary, CMD, RINL highlighted the need to adopt “Clean Steel Making Technologies

& Practices” to compete in the growing international market and observed that the customer requirements are changing day by day and the demand for cleaner steels is on the rise every year at the 46th Steel Making Operating Committee (SMOC) 2013 hosted by RINL today.

Inaugurating the meet, Sri Choudhary indicated that the increase in usage of steel for a variety of applications is exerting demand for steel with better mechanical properties, urging the steel producers to improve the cleanliness of the products. This calls for adequate control and improvement in a wide range of operating practices right from the Pre-treatment of Hot Metal to the treatment of steel, particularly secondary metallurgy interventions, shrouding systems, alloy additions, casting practices, etc. he added.

Sri Choudhary urged the steel experts participating in the meet to come out with useful inputs for not only improving the quality steel but also for improving the safety as well as environmental standards. Sri Choudhary released a souvenir brought out on the occasion.

Sri PC Mohapatra, Director (Projects) RINL said that the Plant achieved several milestones in steel making processes, techno-economic parameters , customer satisfaction etc and explained the introduction of new technologies in the expansion of RINL to produce clean and quality steel.

Sri PN Rao, GM (Steel) I/c, RINL in his welcome address hoped that the meet would deliberate and come out with useful suggestions in improving clean steel technologies.

Sri YV Khannan, GM (Steel & Refractories), RDCIS, Ranchi said that Clean Steel making aims towards production of high end steel products.

Sri Amitava Paul, RDCIS and Secretary of SMOC presented the Secretary’s report on the occasion.

Sri B Siddhartha Kumar, IFS, CVO, Sri DN Rao, ED(Operations) and senior officials of RINL took part in the meet. Sri PK Rath, GM, SMS, RINL proposed vote of thanks.

Delegates from Bhilai, Rourkela, Bokaro, Durgapur, Tata, JSW, Jindal, Bhushan Steel, Alloy Steel Plant, Mecon, Centre for Engg. Technology of SAIL participated in the conference.

The inaugural session was attracted by a classical Kuchipudi dance performance by Ms Sanjana Sen and Ms Jhanvi.
