INTRODUCTION
Soil health degradation is a major threat to agricultural sustainability in India. To arrest such degradation and decline in productivity, a holistic approach is needed.
Assessment of soil health is important for taking necessary rehabilitation measures.
Therefore, a comprehensive assessment of soil health including physical, chemical and biological attributes of soil and development of soil health card is increasingly becoming crucial. Soil Health Card Scheme is a scheme launched by the Government of India on 19th February, 2015 with 12 parameters. Under it, a large numbers of parameters are to be tested for assessing soil health across the country.
Therefore, it is essential to identify the key indicators of soil health with their critical limits in predominant cropping systems under different AERs of India. The ICAR- Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), is a seat of great scientific achievements and an excellent center of learning, has legacy of imparting quality trainings. Keeping this in view, a course curriculum entitled
entitled “Management of soil health for sustainable production” is designed and will be organized as a virtual training programme under DST-SERB funded project.
OBJECTIVE
The training will be conducted with the major objective of imparting training on assessment of soil health, identification of key indicators with their critical limits and development of soil health cards using DSS with recommendations for the farmers.
