Abstract:- The psychology is the one of the subject which is useable for not only the education but also for the other disciplines like sports and games etc. It is general thing that if you want to analyze the human behavior the psychology gives you advantages for the same but it is proved that psychological variables soundly effect on human thinking. The purpose of the present study was also measure the Stress, Anxiety and Aggression level between Football and Kabaddi Intervarsity players. Total 384 samples were randomly selected from both games from their respective venues. For the collection of data three standardized tests namely „Stress Scale‟ developed by Dr. Prerna Puri, Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Prof. Manju for Aggression „aggression Questionnaire‟ developed by GC Patti and for anxiety „Sports Competition Anxiety Test‟ developed by Marten had been used. Statistical technique Mean, SD and t test were applied at 0.05 level of significance. After the analysis of data it was found that there was no significant different found between Football and

Kabaddi player for their stress, aggression and anxiety levels.

Keywords:- Stress, Anxiety, aggression, Football and Kabaddi.

1. INTRODUCTION

In this competitive world of sports, only those peoples are considered winners who think that they can win and make it happen. The psychological variables namely stress, aggression and anxiety creates hurdles in the way of success. To cross these hurdles one needs special type of preparation and training. It does not matter how much prepared you are because before the examination or competition, everybody feels varying degree of psychological problems which creates different doubt for success or victory.

The degree of stress, anxiety and aggression depends upon the level of preparation and the level of competition; however it is believed that moderate level of anxiety, stress and aggression is essential to get the success. But acute level of stress, aggression and anxiety can create troubles which can lead the person to failure.

Thus these psychological variables played pivotal role in winning any type of competition. The effect of these variables is so prominent in bodily changes that they require real effort to tackle them. That‟s why an attempt has been made to study the level of stress, aggression and anxiety in relation to sports. The present study deals with:- “A Comparative Study of Selected Psychological Variables between Football and Kabaddi Players.”

1.1 Hypothesis of the Study

1.

It was hypothesized that there may not be significant difference between the Stress level of Football and Kabaddi players.

2.

It was hypothesized that there may not be significant difference between the Aggression level of Football and Kabaddi players.

3.

It was hypothesized that there may not be significant difference between the Anxiety level of Football and Kabaddi players.

1.2 Samples

It was a survey study focusing on Football and Kabaddi male players belonging to intervarsity competitions which were held in SBBS University, Jalandhar (Pb) and Poornapranjna College Udupi, (Karnataka) respectively. In the present study, the data was collected from two games (i.e. Football and Kabaddi) of All India Intervarsity level for the session 2019-20.

The subjects were randomly selected from their respective competitions. Total 384 (192 from Football and 192 from Kabaddi) subjects had been selected for the sample by the random sampling method. Three standardize tests for psychological variables Stress, Aggression and Anxiety had been used for the collection of data.

1.3 Statistical Techniques

Descriptive statistics had been applied to assess the players on different selected variables.

The random sampling technique was used for the players. The statistical measure applied in the study was Mean, SD, „t‟ test. The level of significance was set at 0.05.

2. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:

Table No.-1 Independent Sample t-test of Stress level of Football and Kabaddi players Group N Mean St. Deviation Std. Error

382 -7.017 .897

Kabaddi 192 77.740 12.9835 .9370

*insignificant at .05 level

Table no. 1 shows that the Mean and Standard Deviation of Football players are higher than the mean and Standard Deviation of Kabaddi teams i.e. (87.141>77.740) and (13.2691>12.9835) respectively. The t value -7.017 and the probability value is .897 this shows that there is insignificant difference in the Stress level of Football and Kabaddi players.

1. Hypothesis First: state that there may not be significant difference between the Stress level of Football and Kabaddi players. The result of study shows that there is no significant difference between Football and Kabaddi players in their Stress level thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

2. Hypothesis Second: state that there may not be significant difference between the Aggression level of Football and Kabaddi players. The result of study shows that there is no significant difference between Football and Kabaddi players in their Aggression level thus the null hypothesis is accepted.

3. Hypothesis Third: state that there may not be significant difference between the Anxiety level of Football and Kabaddi players. The result of study shows that there is no significant difference between Football and Kabaddi players in their Anxiety level thus the null hypothesis is accepted.
