Summary Points of the CWWG meeting:

Preliminary report of area coverage under Summer crops

 As per preliminary report, as on 17.04.2023, Summer crops area sown in the current year 2023 is 59.17 lakh ha as compared to 56.54 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year.

Temperature:

 In the week (13 - 19 April), maximum temperatures are in the range of 40-42°C over parts of central & north peninsular India. These are above normal by 3-5°C over many parts of Western Himalayan region and Northeast India, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala & Mahe.

 Maximum temperatures likely to fall gradually by 2-3⁰ C over most parts of the country as compared to week 1(13-19 April). These are likely to be below normal by 2-3⁰ C over most parts of India except northeast India, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and north Coastal Andhra Pradesh during some days of the 2nd week (20 – 26 April).

Rainfall distribution:

• The weekly (06 -12 April) All India rainfall in % departure from its Long Period Average (LPA) was -66%, with Central India 129%, South Peninsula -50%, East & North East- India -86% and North-West India -87%. All India cumulative seasonal rainfall (01 March to 12 April) is higher than LPA by 19%.

 During the week (13 -19 April, 2023), light isolated rainfall with thunderstorm / lightning/

gusty winds are likely over many parts of the country during few days of the week.

Isolated hailstorm also likely over central Maharashtra and Marathwada.

Water Reservoir Status:

• The total live water storage in 146 important reservoirs across the country is being monitored by CWC. On week ending 13th April, 2023, water storage has been reported at 70.20 Billion Cubic Meter (39%) which is nearly 95 percent of the last year's storage

and 118 percent of the average storage of last ten years during the corresponding period.

Seeds:

• Certified/Quality seeds availability was reported at 336.29 lakh quintals against the requirement of 303.69 lakh quintals in the country for Rabi-2022-23 (including summer crops).

Fertilizers:

• Availability of fertilizers against requirement has been found comfortable in the country during Rabi- 2022-23.

Pests & Diseases:

 Overall intensity of pests and diseases remained below economic threshold level.

Horticulture crops:

• For Rabi Onion, Rabi Potato and Rabi Tomato, area sown has been reported at 10.82 lakh ha,18.98 lakh ha and 2.74 lakh ha as against 11.67 lakh ha, 18.27 lakh ha and 4.96 lakh ha, respectively, in the last year.

Details of each sector have been enclosed at Annex.

Annexure I. WEATHER OUTLOOK

1st March to 12th April 2023:

During the week (06 - 12 April) lower pre-monsoon rainfall was observed, as compared to Long Period Average (LPA) by 66%. Cumulative seasonal rainfall (01 March to 12 April) is higher than LPA by 19%.

Rainfall Forecast:

13 -19 April, 2023

 A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from 15th April, 2023.

 During the week, light isolated rainfall with thunderstorm / lightning/ gusty winds are likely over many parts of the country during few days of the week.

Isolated hailstorm also likely over central Maharashtra and Marathwada.

20 - 26 April , 2023

 Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm are likely over Western Himalayan Region, many parts of south Peninsula, central India and northeastern states during many days of the week.

 Overall, rainfall activity is likely to be above normal over northwest, central &

south Peninsular India and below

normal over northeast & adjoining east India.

Temperature

 During the week (13 -19 April, 2023), maximum temperatures are likely in the range of 40-42°C over parts of central &

north peninsular India. These are above normal by 3-5°C over many parts of Western Himalayan region and Northeast India, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala & Mahe.

Isolated heat wave conditions likely over parts of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and north Coastal Andhra Pradesh during some days of the 2nd week (20 - 26 April, 2023).

II. RESERVOIR STORAGE (As on 13 April, 2023)

Current live storage in 146 reservoirs was 70.20 BCM (or 39%) of total live capacity of 178.19 BCM.

 121 reservoirs having storage more than 80% of normal storage.

 04 reservoirs having storage upto 30% of normal storage.

Availability of fertilizer has been comfortable. Details of Requirement, Receipt, Availability, Sales and Stock position of Major Fertilizers (Urea, DAP, MOP, Complex and SSP) during Rabi 2022- 23 as on 17.04.2023 is given below:

V. PEST & DISEASE

Overall intensity of pests and diseases remained below economic threshold level.

VI. SEEDS

Certified/ Quality seeds availability was 336.29 lakh quintals against the requirement of 303.69 lakh quintals in the country for Rabi-2022-23(including summer crops). There is sufficient availability of seed for Rabi 2022-23.

VII. HORTICULTURE (As on 12 April, 2023)

Late Kharif Onion: Out of 1.86 lakh ha area sown, 1.41 lakh ha unaffected area (after accounting for damage due to rains etc).

Rabi Onion: Out of target area of 10.76 lakh ha, 10.82 lakh ha has been sown so far, as compared to 11.67 lakh ha in last year of 2021-22.

Rabi Potato: Out of target area of 19.38 lakh ha, 18.98 lakh ha has been sown so far, as compared to 18.27 lakh ha in last year of 2021-22.

Rabi Tomato: Out of target area of 4.97 lakh ha, 2.74 lakh ha has been sown so far, as compared to 4.96 lakh ha in last year of 2021-22.

VIII. CROP SOWING POSITION

 As per preliminary report as on 17.04.2023, Summer crops area sown in the current year 2023 is 59.17 lakh ha as compared to 56.54 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year.
