DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY ASSOCIATION REPORT 2016-2017
The association activities of Department of History for the academic year began with the observance of World Environment Day. An awareness campaign on protection of environment was conducted in connection with World Environment Day on 03-06-2016. Along with it a placard making competition was also conducted on 06-06-2016. Both staff and students planted seedlings in the campus. On 20th July, reading contest was conducted in connection with ‘Vayanavaram’. On 21-07-2016, a Workshop
‘Aviation, Travel and Tourism’ was conducted by Tourism Club. On 25-07-2016 an extempore speech competition was conducted. On 26-07-2016, a debate was conducted on “Anti-Narcotic Activities and Its Effects on Society” in connection with Anti- Narcotics Day. On 28th July a debate was conducted on
“Impact of Global War and Remedies” as a part of Anti-War Campaign. A Poster making competition was conducted on 8th August in connection with Anti-Hiroshima Day.
In connection with Independence Day a quiz competition was conducted on the topic “National Movement: 1885-1947” on 10-08-2016.
“Swathathryasmrithi Expo-2016” was conducted in connection with Independence Day celebration on 22-08-2016.
On 23rd August, an organ donation awareness rally was conducted to Kottapady.
Staff and students visited the inmates of Dementia Care Centre Kottapady and consoled them by Palliative Cell members on 23rd August.
On 26th August, History Association Activities for this academic year was inaugurated by Prof.Radhalakshmi.T.V, Former Professor in Department of History, Little Flower College, and Guruvayoor. On 23rd September Tourism Club was inaugurated by Robin.C.Koshy, Asst.Prof, Dept of B.Voc Tourism and Hospitality Management. On 27th September a quiz competition was conducted in connection with World Tourism Day. On 27th September 21 students of 3rd year and Ms.Priyanka attended National Seminar on ‘Archaeology: New Trends & Perspectives’ conducted by Archaeological Survey of India, Thrissur Circle at St. Mary’s college, Thrissur. Started a dress bank and distributed collected dresses among the inmates of Poovanchira Centre for Mentally Disabled on 1st October.
The Golden Jubilee year of the department was inaugurated by Dr.MujeebuRehman, ,Asst.Prof, Dept of History, University of Calicut. A State level Seminar on the topic “Trends in Historiography” was delivered by Dr. M.P. MujeebuRehman, Asst. Prof, Dept of History, University of Calicut on 07/10/2016.
On 8th October field visit conducted to the Tomb of Pazhassi Raja at Wayanad. Jasmin.O.S of 2nd B A History participated in the Republic Day parade at New Delhi.
From 19-26 October Study Tour to Delhi and Agra for final year students. On 01-11-2016 in connection with Keralapiravi “Historia” a manuscript was released. Staff and students of the department visited Sub-jail at Chavakkad and conducted cultural programs there on 23-12-2016.
Palliative club members visited Sub-jail at Chavakkad and conducted X’mas programs there on 25-12- 2016. On 2nd February debate was conducted on “women’s Right Issues” as a part of International Women’s Day.
