Entering strategic alliances and partnerships Hitachi has entered into several strategic alliances and partnered with local distributors. It aims to increase its businesses significantly by expanding its reach in 2006.
• In April 2006, Hitachi Global Storage
Technologies entered into a partnership with Redington as its new authorised distributor.
Redington will distribute Hitachi hard disk drive (HDD) products in India and will service system integrators and resellers across the country.
• Through this alliance, Hitachi plans to enter the B and C-class cities, which the company feels are witnessing the maximum growth. Redington has a strong presence in India with 38 distribution offices, 44 warehouses, more than 1000 employees and 8,000 channel partners in India, and will assist Hitachi in consolidating its HDD business in the country.
• In 2004, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies signed an agreement with Singapore-based Cyberstar, to support an extended warranty support programme in India.
Future Plans
Venturing into new market segments Hitachi is positive about India’s growth potential and feels that the country is among the fastest growing markets, especially for Hitachi products.
The company believes that with an increasing awareness about technology, Indian consumers will move to the premium products segment.
Hitachi is aiming to capture 20 percent of high-end plasma TV market, 10 percent of high-end LCD market and 15 percent of high-end projection market by 2008.
Further, the company is also planning to enter into new market segments through launch of new products. Other Hitachi companies are also planning to venture into India.
Establishing Global Service Centres (GSC) in India
Hitachi has made considerable efforts in strategically positioning its centres in India to meet the growing needs of its global customers and strengthen global solution businesses
worldwide. It seeks to provide global outsourcing services to its customers along with focus on technical skills, English language proficiency and multinational project management.
• In August, Japan and India established the Indo-Japan ICT Forum to increase interaction between the two countries.

• In November 2005, the company established a Hitachi GSC in Bangalore at Satyam's
development centre with an initial staff capacity of approximately 100 people. It aims at providing services such as application development, and maintenance and operation support.
• The company also established a Hitachi Global Solutions Centre (GSC) in Hyderabad in 2005 at Intelligroup's development centre to offer implementation and maintenance of ERP package software.
