Date:

21 November 2019

Detailed Description: Modern mass media has had a deep impact across the globe. The impact has been spread across diverse fields of academia as well as other sectors. The mass media plays one of the most important role in everyone’s life in the 21st century. From our daily commodities to our life long goals and achievements, everything has been influenced heavily by modern mass media. With rise in global outreach and faster networking, mass media has gained unequivocal popularity and thus has been able to affect our lives deeply. Professor John Dean, elaborates for us the nature of this modern mass media, how it has evolved, and has become an integral part of our daily routine and more specifically how has America responded to the rise in this new form of media.

Professor John Dean was also a part of the launch of the “Quill’s Will” magazine for the semester titled “Nava Rasa”.

Impact/Importance of the session: It is essential to understand that media in today’s world becomes one of the most important aspects of any state in defining its functioning with regards to the rest of the world. With the rise in global industries, it becomes essential that the state does not defer the modern mass media rather accepts it and works in sync with it. America has been one of the states that are highly influenced by the way the mass media functions there. India is not too far. Thus, it becomes imperative to learn how it functions, to affect the mass psyche, and thus might in a very near future affect the way India functions as well. The students were a part of this discussion which elaborated on the ways, types, and effects of the modern mass media on the global society and the American society in particular.
