Training programme on “Mushroom Cultivation: a suitable enterprise for socio economic and nutritional security of tribal youth and farm women in Mizoram” under AICRP on

Mushroom

ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Region Hill, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib has successfully organized four (4) days training programme on “Mushroom Cultivation: a suitable enterprise for socio economic and nutritional security of tribal youth and farm women in Mizoram” under AICRP on Mushroom funded ICAR DMR, Solan, HP. This programme was started with an opening ceremony on 26th September, 2017 and end with valedictory function on 29th September, 2017. The main objective of the training is to encourage the youth and farm women residing at far flung areas off Mizoram to integrated mushroom cultivation in their existing farming system as a component. Dr. A. Ratankumar Singh, Scientist (Plant Pathology) PI, delivered lecture on different topics viz., scope of mushroom cultivation in Mizoram, importance of mushroom in relation to food, health; introduction to different edible and non- edible mushrooms in India, cultivation process of oyster Mushroom, value addition products, display audio-video on success stories of mushroom growers (Miss Divya Rawat, Mushroom Ambassador of Uttarakhand) to start up the mushroom cultivation in large scale. Under practical section, demonstration on site selection, types of mushroom house, preparation of substrate to harvesting of mushroom, mushroom health management, value addition, record keeping and spent mushroom composting (SMS) technology. Total 15 farmers comprised of 2 women, 7 youth and 6 farm men were actively participated and 13 farmers were from far flung place of Mizoram, Chawngte areas. During valedictory function, Dr S B Singh, Joint Director of ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Region Hill, Mizoram Centre appraised the trainees for their enthusiastic and told to start up mushroom cultivation to become a successful mushroom entrepreneur in the society. We distributed basic inputs like spawn, lime, gypsum, polythene bags, rubber band. leaflets at valedictory function and subsequently the trainees were awarded with certificates. The training programme was considered grand success and concluded by offering vote of thanks delivered by PI of AICRP on Mushroom,
