Abstract - The COVID-19 pandemic has caused havoc around the globe. It originated in China and is now permeating the entire world. A pandemic health issue called COVID-19 is harming the nation's economic expansion. Normal daily life has been disrupted as a consequence of the COVID-19 epidemic. To stop the COVID-19 virus from spreading, several initiatives are being taken by nations. The Indian government has imposed a nationwide shutdown to encourage social distancing. All schools, colleges, and institutions have been temporarily closed due to the epidemic. The entire educational system is being disrupted by this. E - Learning is replacing offline learning. Students, teachers, and parents are all having a lot of issues as a result of this change in teaching technique. The current study discusses the COVID-19's numerous effects on the educational sector.

Keywords: Pandemic, Social Distancing, Educational Sector.

1. INTRODUCTION

On March 11, 2020, the WHO certified COVID-19 to be a pandemic. Many nations have been impacted by this pandemic outbreak that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan. All areas of the economy are affected by Covid 19. The outbreak of COVID 19 harmed all nations in the world both financially and otherwise. The educational field was likewise significantly impacted by the same. The paper examines the impact of covid 19 on education sector. Countries are implementing a number of measures to decrease the crowds, including lockdowns, business absences, school closures, suspension of transportation services, etc. Most nations in the world have temporarily shut down their educational institutions to prevent the COVID-19 virus from spreading. The 80% of them had never taken online classes before. Additionally, there were difficulties with other infrastructure amenities including internet access. The majority of the classes have been held using Google Meet, Google Classroom, Zoom, etc.Internal exams are done over the internet using tools like Google Forms, Google Classroom. All of these were changes to the basic environment affecting the education sector. The learning of the students from low- income families was harmed by the abrupt switch from classroom instruction to digital learning. Because they could not afford smart phones, laptops, or computers, Wi-Fi and other technologies quickly became an issue for them. This sudden shift caused a number of mental health issues, including despair, anxiety, and stress, among the students. This research aims to explain the effects of lockdown on schools, higher educations, teachers, parents and especially students.

2. IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON EDUCATION SYSTEM

To stop the COVID-19 epidemic from spreading, the majority of nations have temporarily shuttered day-care centres, preschools, primary and secondary schools, colleges, and universities.COVID-19 has an impact on teachers, parents, and kids all throughout the world. Both the positive and negative impacts of COVID-19 on Indian Education system are observed.Exams, evaluations, the commencement of a new semester or year, and the possibility of an extended school year are all impacted by COVID-19.The online learning system is providing benefits to the students in regulating their education. Students are getting knowledge and completing their education but it is not impacting in broad.

Sometimes both teachers and students are facing difficulties in conducting and joining the online classes. Basically, it requires high internet speed and laptop/system/phone. Matter of fact several students won’t be able to attend the classes due to the unavailability of the laptop and high internet speed. Therefore, it impacts their education. The structure of the Indian education system i.e. learning methodology, teaching techniques & assessment methodologies, is quite affected, resulting in a shift to online education withmost focus on virtual education to accomplish the set aims and objectives. But only a handful of schools

and universities could adopt such methods and the low-income private and government schools are quite inefficient to adopt the same, thus resulting in a shutdown.

3.IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON SCHOOLS

The best available public policy tool to increase skills is education. While attending school can be enjoyable and can help children develop their social skills and social awareness, from an economic perspective, the main benefit of attending school is that it improves a child's potential.School education for a relatively short period of time enhances aptitude and abilities. On the other hand, ignoring or declining to attend the school will have a negative impact on skill development.

The COVID-19 crisis increases social inequalities in classrooms. Parents with greater financial resources send their children to schools with higher digital infrastructure and teachers who may be more proficient in using digital technology. Some schools might be well-equipped with digital resources and teaching aids. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds attend institutions with insufficient Ict infrastructure and educational resources. In terms of technology and instructional resources, private and public schools differ significantly from one another.Public schools are less effective than private ones.

Students do not all have equal access to digital technology and learning resources. The study finds during schools closure the level of anxiety, depression disorders, and stress are high among students.

4.IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON HIGHER EDUCATION:

Due to COVID-19, state governments started closing colleges and universities nationwide around the second week of March 2020. We all know that this was an important time for students because many university and college exams were to be held at this time, along with several entrance exams for various colleges and competitive exams. And because there was no quick way to stop the COVID 19 outbreak, it was necessary to make college, school, and university closures mandatory in order to stop the virus's spread. More than 285 million youngsters in India have been impacted. Students, particularly those in their last year and those taking the entrance exam, had to deal with serious issues because they were unaware of the upcoming exams, because of the delays caused by the closure of educational institutions. The pandemic has highlighted the deficiencies of the current higher education system and the necessity for greater digital technology training for instructors to keep up with the world's fast evolving educational landscape. The utilisation of online learning and virtual education may become a crucial component of the higher education system in the post-pandemic world.

Some private institutions that engaged their students with online teaching were unable to conduct exams or evaluate their students, which is a significant setback in an online learning environment. Students have suffered significant instructional interruptions in their studies. There is no doubt that some students who just graduated from universities or other higher education institutions were unable to find employment as a result of the closure of businesses, organisations, government parastatals, schools, and other institutions. On the other, the inability to attend physical school and the lack of access to digital education caused a massive drop in learning levels after the COVID-19 outbreak.

Simply put, compared to students from the pre-COVID-19 years, more students were promoted from secondary to higher secondary school and graduated from school to college during the pandemic years even though their learning outcomes were poor. This is significant as even in the pre-COVID-19 era, the employability of engineers had been reducing fast due to the poor quality of education and the lack of conceptual understanding.

5.IMPACT OF COVID -19 ON PROFESSIONAL & ACADEMIC:

Both favourable and negative effects of Covid-19 have been felt in Indian studies. The inability for researchers to travel for information gathering and working at the national and international levels is a drawback, if we are to look at it that way. Research projects that must be completed in collaboration with other agencies are now more challenging. Some

laboratory tests and research projects in science were unable to be completed. But Covid-19 has also created some positive impact as well, i.e., academicians got much time to improve their theoretical research work. Academicians got acquainted with technological methods and improved their research. Webinars and e-conferences became normal methods for sharing expertise among studentsand academicians around the globe with similar issues.

They could get much time to concentrate on professional development by doing research and to improve knowledge by sharing ideas through webinars and e-conferences. This has enhanced their technical skill and could get the scope for publishing articles in journals, publishing books in this free time.

6.IMPACT OF SCHOOL CLOSURE ON TEACHERS:

During the time when schools were closed, a lot of teachers—especially those working in private schools—did not get paid. Consequently, some of them became incapable of meeting the requirements of their family. Many teachers are suffering from psychological issues like worry, dread, anxiety, sadness, and insomnia as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which causes them to lose focus and concentration.

7. DIFFICULTY IN ASSESSING THE STUDENTS:

There is no way for the teacher to grade an assignment and give feedback to the students.

Some colleges and institutions that teach their students online are unable to hold exams.Students and teachers found it challenging to participate by asking and responding questions during or after each online lesson.Assessments and evaluation are significantly impacted by the shift from in-person teaching to online instruction. Applying assessments and evaluations online is a difficult undertaking depending on the nature of the course and the assessment style. Teachers have been forced to modify their assessment methods in order to suit the online format. In compared to the standard measurement, numerous measurement mistakes are reported using online assessment tools. It is challenging to keep track of students' online course behaviour and to make sure that they are not copying and pasting on online tests.Online testing is not possible for performance, practical, or lab assessments. Students without internet connection will struggle to complete tests and evaluations.Students and teachers found it challenging to participate by asking and responding questions during or after each online lesson.

8. CONCLUSIONS

The research has identified the impact of this pandemic issue of the education system. The COVID-19 is a virus-based pandemic illness that affects both developed and developing countries' educational systems. Every nation's progress is supported by its system of education. The majority of schools, colleges, and universities around the globe are closed to prevent the COVID-19 virus from spreading. Problems arise for teachers, families, and students as a result of the closing of the school. Therefore, distance learning is a way to keep the educational system going. However, remote learning is difficult in poor nations due to the fact that many parents did not complete their education, as well as the absence of ICT infrastructures, computers, radios, and televisions.

The poor and digitally-illiterate families with lower educational levels children with poor learning motivation are more suffering in this situation and this increases inequality. The COVID-19 epidemic has forced all educational institutions worldwide to adopt online teaching and learning. Governments should therefore increase network connectivity and infrastructure in both urban and rural locations. The nations should develop a plan to scale educational technology, set up free online educational resources, produce digital teaching and learning materials, employ mobile learning, use radio and television teaching, and develop ICT infrastructures.By offering the training to the teachers and collecting the feedback from the parents related to the online system will be useful for theeducational institution to overcome the issues related to take classes and engage the students.

The lesson learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic is that teachers and students/learners should be oriented on use of different online educational tools. After the

COVID-19 pandemic when the normal classes resume, teachers and learners should be encouraged to continue using such online tools to enhance teaching and learning.Even if the COVID-19 problem lasts for a longer period of time, it is vital to make efforts to make the most of internet platforms. India should come up with innovative plans to guarantee that all students would have on-going access to education during the COVID19 pandemic.

Online practise should continue after the lockdown because it is extremely beneficial to the learners. It may be possible to do more, in-depth statistical research to examine COVID- 19's effects on the Indian educational system.
