• The human body is composed of Bones, Muscles, Specialized Organs, Tissues, and Fat.

• Fat or Adipose tissues is a combination of essential Fat (An energy source for the normal physiologic functions of cells and Organs) and Storage Fat (A reserve supply of energy for future needs).

1.1 Simply we can say-

 Obesity is just an exaggeration of a Normal Body, the storage of energy for future is properly classified as a Health problem, and this is because excessive amounts of storage fat may interfere with the normal physiology of the body.

1.2 Scientific Clarification

 Obesity reflects an imbalance between the Input to the Body and its Output i.e. the amount of energy taken into the body in the form of food and the amount of energy expanded in metabolism and physical activity

 According to WHO

 World Health Organisation’s definition is based on weight classification, these weight categories are based on BMI and is as follows-

< 18.5- Under weight 18.5–24.9- Normal weight

25.0–29.9- Over weight 30.0–34.9- Class I obesity 35.0–39.9- Class II obesity

≥ 40.0- Class III obesity

2 ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS/CAUSES

 Diet

 Sedentary life style

 Heavy marketing of fast food outlets

 Highly Glycomic Foods-contains heavy quantity of Glycogen likes Chocolate, Sweets.

2.1 Diet-

Total calorie consumption has been found to be related to obesity.

A sedentary lifestyle plays a significant role in obesity. This is primarily due to increasing use of mechanized transportation and a greater prevalence of labor-saving technology in the home.

2.3 Heavy Marketing of Fast Food Outlets

 Fast foods are a reach source of Fat.

KFC, Pizza Hut, Dominos' are some of the famous brands of Fast Foods.

2.4 Highly Glycomic Foods

 Sweet beverages contains heavy quantity of Glycogen likes Chocolate, Sweets.

2.5 How Obesity Affects

• Although Obesity itself is a complication, some major problems are-

Hypertension-

It is commonly called High Blood Pressure. The aetiology behind this increase in blood pressure appears to be related to substance produce by adipose tissues as weight gains

result in more fatty tissues. Fatty tissues require more oxygen and blood nutrients to survive and this put an extra load on heart.

Asthma-

In Obese people the Lungs are under-expanded and the size of breathe is smaller.

Elevated Cholesterol-

It is also known as Hyper Cholesterolemia, with an increase in body fat the cholesterol level also raises simultaneously. Every 10 lbs. of extra fat in body causes the deposition of approx. 10 mg of cholesterol per day.

Osteoarthritis-

It is a common joint disorder, often more affects the joints of knee, Hip and lower back. Due to obesity extra pressure placed on joints and leads to tearing of cartilage (Cushion of Joints).

3 METHODS TO MANAGE OBESITY-

• Calorie control- One should keep check on the intake and consumption of calories.

More raw vegetables, fruits help in balancing the intake of the food. Reducing refined &

processed food, fast food, non vegetarian diet helps in weight control. A special fasting program has shown promising results.

3.1 Exercise

• It is the way of getting involved in Physical activity so as to burn calories in natural way. It includes both, Aerobic and Anaerobic exercises.

• Yoga has an important role to play in the treatment of Obesity. Various Yoga techniques can be practiced effectively to reduce the weight and achieve normal healthy condition of Body and Mind.

3.3 Other Methods

• Surgery:- People with the BMI of 40 have to through surgical process, such as Digestive process of patient is interrupted.

• Gastric Bandage:-It is a surgical procedure that involves fitting a Bend around the upper part of stomach, usually recommended as a last option for extremely obese.

4 I SUGGEST

• Dieting and physical exercise are the mainstays of treatment for obesity. Physical Exercise not only reduces the risk of Obesity but also improves the metabolism and leads to calorie burning even in rest position.
