Abstract
Background and Aims: Static and dynamic balance is an important factor in most sports movements.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a functional training course on static and dynamic balance in young men.
Methods: 40 young men from the city of Ardabil volunteered to participate in this study. Then, they were randomly divided into two groups of control (mean ± SD: age 25.68 ± 2.14, Height174.67 ± 4.36, weight 75.89 ± 6.54) and experimental (mean ± SD, age 24.56 ± 3.47, Height 176.11 ± 5.57 and weight76.81 ± 5.33). In the pre-test, all subjects performed the Sharpend-Romberg test (static balance) and take-off time (dynamic balance). After the experimental period, the test was re-evaluated by the experimental group after eight weeks in the post-test. During the training period, the control group did not perform a specific exercise. Mean ± standard deviation was used to report the results in the descriptive statistics. In the statistics, a dependent t-test was used to find a significant relationship between the pre-test and the post-test and between the groups the independent t-test was used.
Results: The results of this study showed that the performance of eight weeks of functional practice training had a significant effect on the static (p = 0.01) and dynamic (p = 0.04) balance of experimental group compared to the control group. Comparing the pre-test and the post-test, the eight- week functional training results in a statistically significant difference in the static balance indices (p
= 0.01) and dynamic (p = 0.02).
Conclusion: performing of eight weeks of intermittent functional practice has a significant effect on the dynamic and static balance in young men. Individuals who participate in specialized sports can improve their exercise skills with improving dynamic and static balance.
Key words: functional training, static balance, dynamic balance
