Chinese medicine is a deep theoretical system that cannot always be explained by Western medical theory. Thus, deficiency is the fundamental essence of the underlying pathology of many autoimmune diseases according to Chinese medicine.
The immune system process
Regulatory T cells (Tregcells), also known as suppressor T cells, are a specialized subpopulation of T cells whose job is to suppress the ongoing activity of the immune system. The B cell then displays a portion of the antigen, bound to an MHC class II protein on its surface.
Antigens
The B cell then displays these antigenic peptides on its surface MHC class II molecules. The fragments are then presented on the cell surface in a complex with MHC class I molecules.
Antibodies
Tumor antigens are those presented by MHC class I or II molecules on the surface of tumor cells. More common are antigens presented by tumor cells called tumor-associated antigens (TAAs).
Complement
Hypersensitivity (allergies)
If patients have itchy skin, anti-allergic herbs such as Di Fu ZiKochiae Fructus, Bai Xian Pi Dictamni Cortex, Huang Qin Scutellariae Radix or Dang GuiAngelicae sinensis Radix and acupuncture points such as SP-6 Sanyinjiao, SP-1, LI -11 Quchi and Baichongwo (extra). 2) Type II hypersensitivity: antibody-dependent cytotoxicity Type II antibody-dependent cytotoxic hypersensitivity causes cytotoxic T cells to lyse body cells because IgG and IgM antibodies mistakenly recognize an antigen on the body's cell surface as a pathogen. Local acupuncture points such as SP-6 Sanyinjiao, SP-10 Xuehai and LIV-2 Xingjian can be selected.
Immune tolerance
Chinese medicine treatment of autoimmune diseases 32 (1) Protection or 'masking' of antigens which are the body's own tissues and. cells, and may be at high risk of being damaged by disorder. To clarify the view of autoimmune diseases in both Chinese and Western medicine, this chapter briefly highlights various Western diagnoses of autoimmune diseases within the context of Chinese medicine.
Yin deficiency in autoimmune diseases
We illustrate cellular apoptosis in several autoimmune and degenerative diseases using the Chinese medicine concept of Yin deficiency (Figure 2.2). According to the authors' clinical experience, patients with autoimmune diseases almost always present with symptoms and signs of Yin deficiency.
Yin deficiency in non-autoimmune diseases
To reiterate, Yin deficiency is not unique to autoimmune diseases; it also exists in other diseases. Therefore, it makes sense to apply theory related to the treatment of Yin deficiency for both autoimmune and degenerative diseases.
Blood stasis is both a pathological product and an aetiological agent that may aggravate an illness
Blood stasis is both a pathological product and an etiological agent that can aggravate a disease. With regard to Chinese medicine and autoimmune diseases, blood stasis can be (1) the result of an autoimmune reaction, or (2) the cause of an autoimmune disease process.
The phenomenon of Fire manifests as inflammation within the body
First, the resulting blood stasis blocks the vessels, so Qi and blood cannot flow smoothly, further exacerbating the blood stasis; Chinese and Western medical theories have the same meaning for circulation, which means blood flowing smoothly through the veins, and for blood stasis.
Phlegm-Dampness and Fluid retention are pathological products in autoimmune disease
An excess of Yang can be the result of aging, because body substances are often affected by injury or simply by life, so that the tissue repairs more slowly than it becomes damaged or by the invasion of six pathogens. Empty fire (Yang) is always the result of a deficiency of Yin. ; Excessive fire always harms Yin. The Western concept of inflammation is clearly explained by the Chinese medical theory of the transformation between Yin and Yang, especially the waning and increasing of Yin and Yang.
Yin grows when Yang generates
In the remission phase, Spleen Qi is replenished and Kidney Yang is tonified to treat the underlying causes. Therefore, one should not warm Yang or nourish Qi even in remission of an autoimmune disease.
Chinese medicine treatment of autoimmune diseases
Chinese medicine recognizes that promoting the balance of Yin and Yang improves overall health. The thymus gland is the main organ of the immune system; is the site of T-cell maturation.
Keeping Yin and Yang balanced is the key to preventing and treating autoimmune diseases
Zhou & Zhou.26 In short, it is the deficiency that allows pathogens to manifest themselves in the Weifen in the first place. In summary, the Chinese medicine practiced in the clinic is not “an old-fashioned kind of gun that shoots in all directions and has no specific target.”
Treatment
T-cells, especially suppressor T-cells, play an important role in the process of asthma and allergy. In the acute phase, treatment is aimed at eliminating heat to protect Yin.
Chinese medical treatment is based on symptoms and signs
To summarize, the general principle of treatment to treat autoimmune diseases is to nourish Yin, clear heat, remove blood stasis, and improve all symptoms. Intermediate and late rheumatoid arthritis is treated by toning the Kidneys, dissolving phlegm and removing blood stasis.
Western medical aetiology and pathology
Abundant evidence points to the key role of immune complex deposition in the etiology of SLE. Research into the development of autoantibodies has looked at the response to the mechanism of tissue and cell injury that culminates in the inflammatory cascade.
Diagnosis by Western medicine
Autoantibodies can be identified in serum samples up to a decade before the earliest symptoms of SLE. Note: The LE preparation test used in the diagnosis of SLE has relatively low specificity and is insensitive.
Chinese medicine aetiology and pathology
In the early Han Dynasty Zhang Zhongjing Jin Gui Yao Lue/Synopsis of the Golden Chamber describes Yin Yang Du, Yin and Yang-toxin. For pain in the joints of the fingers Bafeng needle (extra); for finger joint pain, Baxie needle (extra); and for knee pain ST-35 Xiyan and Neixiyan needle (optional).
Appendix
The patient stated that he had a cold, a sore throat and also had epididymitis. The pain and redness in the patient's left leg were reduced and his insomnia improved.
Analysis of the cases
5 If there is an outside invasion in the future, prevent it from causing the disease again. Therefore, the treatment principle of removing blood stasis is very important in the treatment of SLE and other autoimmune diseases that damage the kidney glomeruli.
Lifestyle prescriptions and health issues
Warm up the Yang in the chest and remove obstruction in the blood vessels of the heart. Promote the flow of Qi, remove blood stasis and activate the blood vessels of the heart.
Analysis of the cases
4 The treatment protocol above reduced the patient's symptoms, especially lowering the pressure in the pulmonary artery from 110/70 to 55/. 5 Practitioners must also know what kind of medication the patient has been prescribed as it can mask naturally occurring symptoms and signs.
Lifestyle prescriptions and health issues
Chinese medicine says: 'The four external evils known as wind, cold, heat and damp attack the human body and cause bi-syndromes'. This is why Chinese medicine says, “Essence and blood have a common source” and “The liver and kidneys have a common source.”
General treatment principle
Pain in the knee joint: Heding (extra), ST-35 Dubi, Medial Xiyan (extra), GB-34 Yanglingquan and SP-9 Yinlingquan. Expel pathogenic wind, heat and moisture, remove obstruction in the ducts and stop the pain.
Chinese medical aetiology and pathology
Thirst, night sweats, pain or soreness in hypochondrial region, vertigo, blurred vision, tiredness, fatigue, dysphoria with fever in chest, palms and soles, anorexia and dyspepsia. To treat additional symptoms and signs of Blood Heat, add Shui Niu JiaoBubali Cornu and Mu Dan Pi Moutan Cortex, and LI-11 Quchi and LIV-2 Xingjian needle; for Qi deficiency, add Bai Zhu Atractylodis macrocephalae Rhizoma and Fu Ling Poria and ST-36 Zusanli needle and BL-20 Pishu.
Appendix and complications
Since then, she has been taking 60 mg of prednisone daily to lower her liver enzymes. 32 months after the office visit, the doctor reduced the prednisone to 1 mg daily, but the liver enzymes remained normal.
Analysis of the cases
Nourishing liver and kidney yin is the key treatment principle for treating patients with chronic AIH who have elevated levels of liver enzymes. When fever Fire sings the internal body, one of the first organs to be damaged is the Liver and its Yin.
Lifestyle prescriptions and health issues
The function of the small intestine is to transform and absorb the food contents and essence. Qi stagnation, blood stasis and heat are the most critical pathogens in the disease process.
DOWNWARD FLOW OF DAMP-HEAT CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
3 Treatment of Qi: if there are excessive symptoms, one should clear Heat in the Qifen and descend the rebellious rising Qi; if there is deficient Qi, one should nourish Qi and supplement Spleen Qi.
HYPERACTIVE LIVER FIRE WITH QI STAGNATION CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
FIRE FLARING DUE TO YIN DEFICIENCY CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
If the patient has symptoms of cold intolerance or feeling cold, poor appetite and watery diarrhea, add Fu Ling Poria and Qian Shi Euryales seed and ST-36 Zusanli needle. If the patient has a high temperature, add Huang QinScutellariae Radix, Chai HuBupleuri Radix and Shui Niu JiaoBubali Cornu, and Du-14 Dazhui and SP-10 Xuehai needle.
DEFICIENT SPLEEN QI CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
Therefore, as described in 'The 77th Problem', a chapter in Nan Jing/The Classic on Medical Problems, 'When liver disease occurs, it will spread to the spleen, so the Qi of the spleen must be strengthened before it is affected' . We have published clinical data from research that supports this.5 The groups of acupuncture points we used not only treat mental illness, but also treat CNS-related diseases such as menopause, hypertension, gastroesophageal reflux disease, insomnia, depression, anxiety, Alzheimer's s disease, Parkinson's disease and ADHD. If there was a way to 'mask' the antigen so that it would no longer be an exposed target, it would not be found by the specific.
For example, psychiatric abnormalities are common in lupus, with a prevalence of 17–75%, reflecting different methods of patient selection and evaluation, different professional orientations of clinicians, and a lack of accepted consensus for the diagnosis of active neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE).6 Psychiatric syndromes included in the American College of Rheumatology Committee on Neuropsychiatric Lupus Nomenclature criteria are cognitive dysfunction, acute confusional state (delirium), anxiety disorder, mood disorder, and psychosis.
