The basic hypothesis of this research is that PSS development methodology can contribute to SHA development. A uniform methodology of PSS was proposed and with the help of expert interviews, the appropriateness of its use for the development of SHA was examined. In the expert interview, the stages of the existing SHA development processes that need to be strengthened with the PSS development methodology were identified.

Based on the findings of the diagnosis, a set of tools was selected to strengthen the development processes of the SHA and their effectiveness was determined in a workshop with practitioners. Throughout the process, the potential of the PSS development methodology for SHA development was recognized and points for improvement were suggested to better support SHA development.

To overcome these limitations, smart products must be able to use the interaction possibilities of the environment. When the concept of a smart home was introduced into popular culture in the 1990s, many researchers attempted to identify smart homes. On the other hand, Jiang, Liu, and Yang (2004) introduce Intertek's definition of smart home.

류한석 (2012) also lists "smart control" as one of the values offered by a smart home with "smart (energy) saving". Considering some smart products such as Nest, a thermostat that can learn the user's lifestyle and preferred temperature and can be controlled by smartphones, the current smart home industry is considered to be between the "connected home" and the "learning home". . The need for user-centric approaches is highlighted in the obstacles to the revitalization of the smart home market.

In addition to home appliance manufacturers, Aldrich (Harper, 2003) nominated service providers as another new main player of smart home markets.

Product-Service System Development Methodology

  • Product-Service System Development Processes and Tools

By interacting with customers, providers can better understand their needs and problems and can increase the company's innovation power. The criteria for the selection of methodologies are: 1) PSS development processes whose division and description of stages are clear and specific enough to understand the activities carried out in each stage were selected for analysis, and 2) processes that add service elements on the whole product were excluded because product elements and service elements can influence each other in the development process, therefore the simultaneous development of products and services is important for a holistic approach (Brezet et al., 2001; Meier, 2013). Set more specific goals than the global ones formulated in step 1. State the direction of the innovation.

Hold regular meetings with all the people involved in designing the different parts of the system. However, the systemic nature and inclusivity of the tools can make tool users feel difficult and complicated. Generate concepts in an integrated way. concepts: combination of products and services based on the validation of the various requirements for the requested function).

To increase the usability of the methodology for practitioners who are generally new to PSS development, the process and tools have been simplified. Service Testing · Check the consistency and credibility of service documentation (eg business plans, process models, training materials). Internal and external communication and information measures monitor the start-up period and review the effectiveness of the service  (final adjustment, improvement process).

Verification of PSS Development Methods

At the end of the workshop, the tools and the workshop were evaluated using a survey. As a result of the workshop, the results of the use of tools and methods and participants' feedback about the workshop were obtained. To broaden the understanding of the roles and characteristics of SHAs, reference was made to the literature related to smart products.

For that reason, the smart products are able to make use of the different input and output options in their smart product environment that support the use of different modalities (e.g. speech, pointing). The user profile, for example, is part of the knowledge that must be stored in a distributed manner. The distributed storage enables the new smart product to be initialized with the knowledge of the old smart product and thus does not have to learn everything from scratch.

Meanwhile, Aldrich argues that the role of consumer electronics manufacturers as one of the new major players in the smart home needs to be emphasized (Harper, 2003). 1999) government, smart home and SHA developers should consider that “added value for customers is an advantage. 3 participants could not go through the entire process of the workshop due to their work schedule.

Therefore, the scope of the workshop was set as problem identification, idea generation, development and evaluation. Before the actual workshop, the applicability of the tools and the workshop procedure was verified by means of a pilot workshop. According to the result of the pilot workshop and the scope of the actual workshop, some tools were exchanged and methods and time distribution were revised.

At the same time, work was done on generating ideas and organizing the ideas on the priority matrix. When a new idea emerged, participants discussed the impact of the idea and the efforts needed to realize it and placed the Post-it on the priority matrix. Finally, the PSS solutions were assessed on the attractiveness of the PSS and the business fit.

Compared to conventional tools, what are the strengths and weaknesses of PSS tools used in this.

DISCUSSION

Diagnosis

Returning to research question 1, 'how can I identify the part of the existing SHA development process that needs addition and/or strengthening by adapting the PSS development process', it was verified that the unified PSS development process can be used as a diagnostic framework to discover weaknesses of the SHA development process that can be overcome by applying the PSS development methodology through the expert interviews. By comparing the existing SHA development process and the PSS development process, and answering the questions about the current operational conditions, the need for and expectations about activities involved in the PSS development process, the limitations of the current SHA development process and the phases that need improvement identified. Based on the result of the diagnosis, the expected benefits of improving the SHA development process are elaborated below.

By investigating and understanding the needs of stakeholders in a SHA ecosystem, greater values can be generated through a business model as such a model addresses their demands more effectively and thus better satisfies them. In such a model, participation and cooperation of the stakeholders is encouraged and greater social values are generated. The problem scope of conventional SHA development is limited to the use of household appliances.

However, the manufacturer can discover hidden user needs and generate innovative solutions by sharing the views and experiences with other stakeholders. Unexpected needs or problems introduced by other stakeholders can be a source of inspiration for SHA developers, or the user needs not addressed by them can be fulfilled by the solutions of other stakeholders. In addition, developing organizational concepts and marketing concepts together with other stakeholders will contribute to maintaining the consistency of their offering.

Before proposing collaboration, manufacturing companies can use PSS development methods to explore business opportunities and devise business models that can better meet user needs by combining product and service elements. But a more positive approach to social and environmental sustainability can provide a new perspective on their business and lead to product and service innovations. By adopting the PSS method, companies can consider sustainability issues from earlier stages of the development process and find solutions for both their own business and sustainability.

CONCLUSION

According to the types of PSS (Tukker & Tischner, 2006), 5 ideas were obtained for product-oriented PSS, 3 ideas for result-oriented PSS and no ideas for user-oriented PSS.
