The Career Education Act was launched in Korea on 23 December 2015

The purpose of the act is to clarify the responsibilities of the nation, states, and schools in providing effective career education, also emphasizing the career learning right of students at all education level without anyone isolated. The Career Education Act consists of 4 chapters and 23 articles that describe the role of career education to enhance students’ career development competencies and national growth.

Article 13 (Intensive Academic Year or Semester for Career Education)
(1) Notwithstanding Article 24 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, in setting a specific academic year or semester, a superintendent of education may manage an intensive academic year or semester for career education during which vocational experience curriculum is intensively managed.
(2) Matters necessary for the management of an intensive academic year or semester for career education under paragraph (1), shall be prescribed by Presidential Decree.
focuses on one year or one semester in activities related to a career course from the 6th grade of elementary school to the 1st year of high school. In 2017, there are 92 elementary schools, 40 middle schools, and 88 high schools throughout Korea to develop prior models of operating curriculum.
Through Intensive Academic Year (Semester) of Career Education, students can focus on an appropriate career education for their level of development & school level.

Career Specialist Teacher Policy
Duties of the career specialist teacher in secondary school (middle/high)
provides the high quality of career guidance, counseling and information to students. Based on the Career Education Act, school must have one career specialist teacher at every elementary and secondary school.
The career specialist teacher is allocated to every each school after receiving a 570 hours of in-service training program.
The teacher who has obtained the qualification of the career specialist teacher can lead the comprehensive career guidance service to students, parents, and other fellow teachers at the school.
In 2016, the allocation ratio of career specialist teacher in elementary & secondary school is 97.5%, which allows students to receive career development support by advanced specialized teachers.
In 2016, the placement of career specialist teachers extends from middle and high schools to elementary schools.

Article 9 (Teachers Exclusively Responsible for Coaching Careers)
(1) The Minister of Education and a superintendent of education shall assign to elementary and secondary schools, teachers exclusively responsible for career coaching for students.Enforcement Decree of the Career Education Act Article 4 (Career Specialized Teacher)
(1) Thecourse designated by the Ministry of Education in the secondary school is marked as a subject course in accordance with Article 4 of the "Teacher Qualification Guideline." The teacher should be placed as a teacher who has a certified teaching certificate.

Under the Career Education Act in 2015, KRIVET (Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training) has been designated as the NCDC as of 13 January 2017. There was no history of the separate department only for career education within the central government.

The career education index and survey
The career education index and survey shows the degree to which the current career education reaches the target value of Korea. The survey tool aims to grasp the reality of the school that carries out career education and confirms the evaluation level on the career education contents of the students so that they can see the current status of the career development contents & delivery and confirms the future direction of it. Career education index is an annual evaluation conducted by KRIVET NCDC.

School Career Education Program (SCEP)
The Career Education Act legislate career education intensive grade & semester and career exploration curriculum. We have developed the manuals for in-school career education in all level & type for the effective semester & curriculum operation.
SCEP is an in-school career education program developed by Ministry of Education and KRIVET to enable systematic career education at schools since 2011.
STP is a school-to-school transition career guidance program that provides students with clear career plans (consciousness) and understanding of the contents and meaning of career transition to help them adapt to senior life.
STP supports from elementary to high school students who are in the process of transition to upper school level by supporting 4-step activities such as "Understanding transition meaning - transition preparation - change management - career planning" as senior school (employment).
