Abstract

Kwantas Oil Sdn bhd was incorporated with Kwantas Corporate Berhad were specialized in palm oil biomass power plant. From the production process, more than 65% bleaching earth (bentonite earth ash) were produced. Bleaching earth is a waste from bleaching process of crude palm oil. This factory is producing 15mt of bentonite earth ash per day.

Meanwhile, the actual production of Portland cement contributes 13.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide per year (1 ton of carbon dioxide for each ton of produced cement) which is equivalent to 7% of the total global emission of carbon dioxide to

the

atmosphere.

Therefore, research

on

consuming waste (fly ash) to produce concrete was carried out as contribution towards greener environment. This concrete was produced from mixtures of coal fly ash, blast furnace slag, a potassium silicate solution and water, in which the bentonite ash is the major component. The mix composition using 10-50% of the weight is bentonite ash to substitute Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The reduction of OPC consumption will produced green concrete because during mixing process of OPC will release C02 to atmosphere. This concrete can be used as

a

normal concrete for rnulti purposes usage in construction especially as a brick wall because the compressive strength is more than 7 MPa.

Keywords: Bentonite Ash, Green Concrete, Emission of COP.
