Therapy for
Children’s Speech Disorders
Saturday 9th R Sunday 10th August 2008
AT
HOSPITAL UNIVERSITI KEBANGSAAN MALAYSIA
KUALA LUMPUR
Event
Highly unintelligible children often take us to the limits of our expertise as speech and language professionals.
They can pose demanding diagnostic, intervention, and information sharing challenges for speech and language professionals wherever they work. This 2-day Master Class is about working with such children and their families. The emphasis is on developments this decade in the classification, differential diagnosis and management of Moderate and Severe Phonological Disorders and Childhood Apraxia of Speech and ways of streamlining treatment and expediting therapy gains.
Presenter
Dr Caroline Bowen practices as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Blue Mountains 100Km from Sydney.
She also serves as an Honorary Associate in Linguistics at Macquarie University. In a career spanning over 38 years, her workload has evolved into an enjoyable mix of clinical practice, research and writing.
Current professional interests include child speech development and disorders, family centered practice, clinical applications of information and communication technology, and being on both the giving and receiving end of continuing professional development. She is currently writing a book entitled ‘Children’s Speech Sound Disorders’ to be published by John Wiley & Sons (Wiley UK).
Following the warm and enthusiastic response to her ‘update workshop’ on Child Speech for Speech Therapists at UKM in 2007, attended by participants from Malaysia and Singapore, Dr Bowen is delighted to return to Malaysia with a Master Class that builds on the previous event, taking into account participant feedback and valuable input from the team at the UKM Speech Therapy Unit.
