The Cover
Dr. Jose V. Abueva, 15th president of the University of the Philippines, officially assumed office on September 1, 1987. His selection as UP president will go down in the annals of UP history as the most democratic ever,
At the time of election, President Abueva was the director of planning and evaluation at the United Nations University in Tokyo. He was, at the same time, adviser to the Government Peace Panel on Mindanao and the Cor- dilleras.
The new UP president is, nevertheless, no stranger to the University for, besides having graduated 'from the UP with an associate in arts .and bachelor's degree, he taught for several years at the then College of Liberal Arts. All this gives him the advantage of knowing what the problems of the University really are,
