1. 0 Asian Studies is a journal of social sciences. The journal welcomes original papers from all viewpoints on various aspects of Asian societies and cultures. Review articles may occasionally be accepted. In all other cases, papers should present new materials.
2.0 Contributions must be in English or Filipino.
3. 0 Manuscripts are selected for publication according to editorial assessment of their suitability and reviews of independent referees. They will be sent to one or two reviewers, chosen for their expertise. Contributors may suggest reviewers. They will receive three free copies of the journal in which their articles are published.

4. 0 Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work has not been published before (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture, review. or thesis)~ that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere: that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out; that, if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to the automatic transfer of tile copyright to the publisher~ that the manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright holders; that written permission of the copyright holder is obtained by the authors for material used from other copyrighted sources; and that any costs associated with obtaining this permission are the authors' responsibility.
Preparation of Manuscripts
5.0 Authors must submit electronically prepared manuscripts in Microsoft Word. One hard copy of an article should be accompanied, as much as possible, by the soft copy. Papers coming from abroad may be sent through e-mail.
6.0 Articles should be typewritten on one side of 8 1/211 x 1111 size paper with l 11 margin on all sides. Length of articles must be from 25 to 35 pages,
double-spaced. All pages should be numbered consecutively on the upper right hand comer.
Page 1 should contain the article title, author(s), affiliation(s), and the name and complete mailing address (and telephone number, fax number, and e-mail) of the person to whom correspondence should be sent.
7. 0 Standard nomenclature should be used. Unfamiliar terms, abbreviations, and symbols must be defined at first mention. Quotation marks should be double; single within double. Spelling is OAD with -ize ending.
8.0 References t~ the literature Citations in the text should be by author and year; where there are two authors, both should be named; with three or more, only the first author's name plus "et al." need be given.
References in the text should be cited as: Spradley and Mann (1975) or Brendan et a/. (1970)
The bibliography or reference list should contain only the works referred to the text, listed alphabetically by author's surname, or, where there is no identifiable author, by the name of the sponsoring body. Authors should check the strict correspondence between references in the text and those of the list. Book andjournaVperiodical titles should be italicized; titles of journaVperiodical articles should be marked by double quotation marks.

Responsibility for the accuracy of bibliographic references rests entirely with the author, who is requested to use as few "in press" citations as possible. "In press" citations must include the name of the journal that has accepted the paper.
9.0 Footnotes to the title or author of the article are marked by asterisks and placed on the title page.
Simple name and date references without accompanying comment should be inserted in brackets within the text, e.g. (Jocano, 1990). Page references should follow the date, separated by colon, e.g. (Urgel, 1994: 20).
References with accompanying comments should appear as notes, numbered consecutively from 1, indicated by raised numerals.
10.0 Illustrations and other figures should always be mentioned in the text and
·numbered with Arabic numerals. Illustrations in the form of photographs and drawings are welcome. Photographs should be clear with strong contrasts and printed on glossy paper. They should be numbered consecutively at the back, with brief descriptive captions typed on separate sheets of paper.
Maps, graphs, diagrams and other figures should be neatly drawn on white paper or a tracing medium. The ratio of height to width should preferably conform to that of the journal page (9 x 6 in.) or less. Allowance must be made for captions.
11.0 Lists of notes, references, illustrations and captions should be on separate sheets, all of which should be double-spaced and numbered. Author's name and the first 3-4 words of article title should be written on the upper right hand comer of each sheet.
