GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk. 7:11-17) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke
11 Soon afterward he went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. 12 As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow;
and a large crowd from the city was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her,
"Do not weep." 14 And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." 15 And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. 16 Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!" 17 And this report concerning him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.
REFLECTION:
Jesus not only grieved the untimely death of a young man, but he showed the depth of his concern for the woman who lost not only her husband, but her only child as well. The only secure means of welfare in biblical times was one's family. This woman had lost not only her loved ones, but her future security and livelihood as well. How do you respond to the misfortunes of others? In a number of places the Gospel records that Jesus was "moved to the depths of his heart" when he met with individuals and with groups of people. Our modern use of the word "compassion" doesn't fully convey the deeper meaning of the original Hebrew word which expresses heart-felt "sympathy" and personal identification with the suffering person's grief and physical condition.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, speak your word to me and give me renewed hope, strength, and courage to follow you in the midst of life's sorrows and joys. Amen.

NATIONAL EPILEPSY AWARENESS MONTH Cont…Epilepsy
Any generalized seizure can be dangerous because the person is unaware of their surroundings and can't protect themselves from harm. The uncontrolled thrashing raises their chances of getting hurt.
Focal seizures are different. They're less intense and usually last no more than a minute or two.
Part of their body, like an arm, might get stiff or go floppy. You may see repeated, rhythmic, or jerking movements in one place or that spread to different body parts. The person could zone out or stare at nothing. They may or may not realize what's happening but can't control it. When it's over, they won't remember a thing.
What You Can Do
It's all about taking precautions. For someone having a generalized tonic-clonic seizure:
• Give them room. Keep other people back.
• Clear hard or sharp objects, like glasses and furniture, away.
• Cushion their head.
• Loosen clothing around their neck, if you can safely.
• Don't try to hold them down or stop their movements. to be cont…
