GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mk. 6:1-6) The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark
He went away from there and came to his own country; and his disciples followed him. And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue; and many who heard him were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get all this? What is the wisdom given to him? What mighty works are wrought by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him. And Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house." And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands upon a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went about among the villages teaching.
REFLECTION:
The word "gospel" literally means "good news". Isaiah had prophesied that the Messiah would come in the power of the Holy Spirit to bring freedom to the afflicted who suffered from physical, mental, or spiritual oppression (see Isaiah 61:1- 2). Jesus came to set people free - not only from their physical, mental, and spiritual infirmities - but also from the worst affliction of all - the tyranny of slavery to sin, Satan, and the fear of losing one's life. God's power alone can save us from hopelessness, dejection, and emptiness of life. The Gospel of salvation is "good news" for everyone who will receive it.
Do you know the joy and freedom of the Gospel?
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, you are the fulfillment of all our hopes and desires. Your Spirit brings grace, truth, freedom, and abundant life. Amen.
Prayer of St. Gertrude
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

2 FROM THE OVCA – OFFICE OF THE INTEGRATED SCHOOL PRINCIPAL:
1. With sincere gratitude to God for the safety and security of all the members of our IS community despite the recent Taal Volcano activity, we once again welcome everyone's physical presence in the campus today. Likewise, we would like to express our great appreciation and commendation for our community's manifestation of the spirit of faith, zeal for service, and communion in mission amidst the challenges brought about not only by the volcanic eruption but also by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, or 2019-nCoV, a new respiratory virus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
Thus, we would like to enjoin everyone to read, understand, and follow the health advisories officially issued by De La Salle Lipa. Let us all be socially responsible to care for our own health and for the health of others by refraining from going to school if we are feverish, have been suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, have travel history from Chinese territory in the past two weeks, or suffering from any communicable diseases or illnesses that weaken our immune system. With our Canvas Learning Management System (for Grades 4-12) and the Brothers' Little Angels webpage (Pre-school to Grade 3), we are assured of up-to-date learning experiences that suit our current contexts and needs. Always prioritize your safety and security over anything else. Rest assured of the utmost compassion,
understanding, and support from your advisers, teachers, academic service personnel, administrators, and Christian Brothers.
Also, let us try to have a better understanding of the facts about Taal Volcano eruption and 2019 -nCoV, observe the necessary precautions and hygiene, have the prudence to identify fake news and information and avoid sharing them,

3 coordinate with proper authorities for your concerns, ask questions to clarify confusions, take safety and security instructions and evacuation drills seriously, avoid panic, and be vigilant.
As we have proven time and again, everything shall come to pass...even our worries and anxieties. In times like this, as we hope for the best and prepare for the worst, the best thing to do is to pray, hope, do not worry, and do the best that we can.
With the spirit of faith, service, and communion in mission, Lasallians Observing Values and Excellence will always be blessed.

From the Assistant Principal
1. We wish to welcome everyone back to school after a long, unexpected break. We hope that this past few weeks made us realize that we live in such an ever-changing world, full of unexpected incidents, that we are small, nature is big, and it is everything we can manage to hang on and survive when big geophysical events happen like the recent Taal Volcano eruption and the earthquakes we felt associated with it. Adding to it, we all made to realize that a virus, so tiny and invisible to the naked eye has the power to wipe out the bulk of life on Earth. We hope and continue to pray for the health, safety and security of our whole community. May God bless us always in all ways!
2. Today, we are going to follow the Wednesday schedule. However, we will have the first two periods devoted to Homeroom period. 2019 Novel Coronavirus
Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).
Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people.
A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.
People of all ages can be infected by the new coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus.
Common signs of infection include:
• respiratory symptoms,
• fever, cough,
• shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
• In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.
WHO’s standard recommendations
• Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water;
• When coughing and sneezing cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw tissue away immediately and wash hands;
10
• Avoid close contact with anyone who has fever and cough;
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth;
• If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your health care provider;
• Avoid spitting in public;
• The consumption of raw or undercooked animal products should be avoided. Raw meat, milk or animal organs should be handled with care, to avoid cross-contamination with uncooked foods, as per good food safety practice.
Wash Your Hands Often to Stay Healthy
You can help yourself and your loved ones stay healthy by washing your hands often, especially during these key times;
• Before and after eating food
• Before, during, and after preparing food
• Before and after treating a cut or wound
• After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
• After using the toilet
• After touching garbage
• After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
• After handling pet food or pet treats
Follow Five Steps to Wash Your Hands the Right Way
Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community—from your home and workplace to childcare facilities and hospitals.
Follow these five steps every time.
1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/when-how-handwashing.html NOTE:
For students/LPs with acute respiratory infection, fever and cough are advised to seek medical care as soon as possible and secure from his/her attending physician to be submitted to IHS before reporting to school/work.
LPs are advised to report and send to IHS those students who have complaints or manifestations mentioned above. Upon assessment at IHS, if the student is sick, he/she will be advised to go home. Parents/guardian will be informed.
Advice on Wearing Face Masks
According to the World Health Organization, wearing medical mask is one of the preventive measures to limit spread of certain respiratory diseases, including 2019-nCoV. However, the use of a mask alone is insufficient to provide the adequate level of protection and other equally relevant measures be adopted. If masks are to be used, this measure can be combined with hand hygiene and other infection prevention and control (IPC) measures to prevent human to human transmission of 2019 nCoV.
Wearing medical mask when not indicated may cause unnecessary cost, procurement burden and create a false sense of security that can lead to neglecting other essential measures such as hand hygiene practices. Furthermore, using a mask incorrectly may hamper its effectiveness to reduce the risk of transmission. For individuals without respiratory symptoms, a medical mask is not required, as no evidence is available on its usefulness to protect non-sick persons.
11 If you choose to wear a face mask, be sure to cover mouth and nose, avoid touching mask once it is on.
Discard single-use mask after use and wash hands after removing masks.
Treatment
There is no specific medicine recommended to prevent or treat the new coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Antibiotics are not effective in preventing and treating the new coronavirus. Antibiotics do not work against viruses, only bacteria.
