GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mk 4:1-20) The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark
Jesus began to teach by the sea. A very large crowd gathered around him so that he got into a boat on the sea and sat down. And the whole crowd was beside the sea on land. And he taught them at length in parables, and in the course of his instruction he said to them, “Hear this! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and the birds came ate it up. Other seed fell on rocky ground where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep.
And when the sun rose, it was scorched and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it and it produced no grain. And some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit. It came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” He added, “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.”
And when he was alone, those present along with the twelve questioned him about the parables. He answered them, “The mystery of the kingdom of God has been granted to you. But to those outside everything comes in parables, so that ‘they may look and see but not perceive, and hear and listen but not understand, in order that they may not be converted and be forgiven.’”
Jesus said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? Then how you will understand any of the parables? The sower sows the word. These are the ones on the path where the word is sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground who, when they hear the word, receive it at once with joy. But they have no root; they last only far a time.
Then when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, they quietly fall away. Those sown among thorns are another sort. They are the people who hear the word, but worldly anxiety, the lure of riches, and the craving for other things intrude and choke the word, and it bears no fruit. But those sown on rich soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.”
Reflections:
Are You Listening? If not the Word of God we just heard fell on a rocky ground. Are you worried? The word of God you have heard was sown among thorns. Are you at peace listening carefully, then the Word of God fell on the rich soil, rejoice and be glad, Jesus is in your heart.
Prayer: Let us pray…
Lord help us cultivate a rich soil in our hearts. Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle…….Pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts………… Forever!

From Social Studies Department HISTORY CHANNEL
Last January 23, the 117th anniversary of the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic was commemorated.
The arrival of Aguinaldo at Malolos on January 23, 1899 for the inauguration of the first Philippine Republic.
On January 23, 1899, the First Philippine Republic, also known as the Malolos Republic, was inaugurated in Malolos, Bulacan with General Emilio Aguinaldo as President.
He declared Independence at Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898, believing that such a move would inspire the people to fight more eagerly against the Spaniards and at the same time lead the foreign countries to recognize the independence of the country.
Notably, Aguinaldo adopted the Constitución Política de la República Filipina, drawn up by the Philippine Constitutional Convention in the Barasoain Church in Malolos in January 1899 to replace the dictatorial government set up by the Pact of Biak-na-Bato on July 7, 1897.
However, the Malolos Republic did not last long. It ended with the capture and surrender of Aguinaldo to the American forces on March 23, 1901 in Palanan, Isabela, which effectively dissolved the First Republic.
On April 1, 1901, Aguinaldo announced allegiance to the United States, formally ending the First Republic and recognizing the sovereignty of the United States over the Philippines.
After the abolition of the First Philippine Republic, the U.S. continued its annexation of the islands pursuant to the Treaty of Paris which ended the Spanish- American War.
The Philippines was under U.S. sovereignty until July 4, 1946, when formal independence was granted by the United States.

Imagine trying to understand what your teacher is saying if you didn't know what her words really mean. It is even more frustrating if a kid can't come up with the right words to express his or her own thoughts, or tell a parent what he or she needs or wants. Sometimes this can make a kid very upset and frustrated.
Some issues — like not wanting to try new foods or not wanting anyone to move your toys — affect lots of kids, not just those who have an autism spectrum disorder. But kids with these disorders have more trouble "growing out of it" and learning to handle stuff that's challenging and annoying.
