Balsita in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor in Computer Science has been examined and recommended for admission. Accepted and approved in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. One of the first efforts in converting dental records of UPCD patients into electronic records is Open DentIS.

However, the system lacks certain functionalities and problems have been encountered when it comes to patient record access. Dental Information System 2.0 (DentISt), the second version of Open DentIS, gives UPCD clinicians free access and storage of electronic patient dental records. DentISt also provides a graphical representation of the teeth in which observations are easily added with just a few clicks.

Moreover, the second version is able to solve the problem of the running time of a patient's dental chart. Adding the Faculty Clinician role also gives UPCD faculty clinicians access to patient records and added privileges such as printing patient records and approving updates to the patient's dental record.

Background of the Study

Characterization of the MRS concept by creating a dental lexicon which is based on UPCD terminologies to standardized dental terms. Additionally, it uses the standard graphical representation of teeth that is used to store information about a patient's tooth [3].

Statement of the Problem

Objectives of the Study

Significance of the Project

Also, there is no need for a secure and large paper warehouse as the data is in electronic form which is more secure. Searching for patient information is made easier as the data is stored in an orderly manner and in one place. The addition of faculty physician roles gives UPCD faculty clinicians access to patients' dental records.

The need for approval of updates to the patient's dental record by the faculty clinician ensures that all findings entered into the dental record are final and correct. Knowing which cases are more common tells them which department needs more clinicians at a given time. It also helps them to summarize the number of patients and cases treated and the services required by the patients at a given time.

Furthermore, compared to Open DentIS, DentISt is much faster in loading the dental chart. UPCD does not need to spend much on the system, as the platform, OpenMRS, is a free open source software.

Scope and Limitations

It also follows the normal clinician's workflow, meaning that unnecessary steps are avoided when performing simple tasks. The use of OpenMRS also increases and contributes to the possibility of creating future dental information systems through various open source platforms, giving the clinics a chance to use these systems without paying much. The system is designed based on the University of the Philippines Manila - College of Dentistry clinical processes (from collecting patient information to setting appointments).

Assumptions

Review of Related Literature 7

Dental informatics uses computer science and information science to improve dental practice, research, education, and management [4]. Also known as computerized patient records (CPRs) [9], electronic patient records are expected to be the next step for the dental information technology industry in its drive to digitize nearly every aspect of dental practice. As of 2002, the number of general dentists using computers in a clinical setting (ie, in the dental office) in the United States reached 25%.

Two of the most widely used open source EHR systems in the US and abroad are OpenVistA8 and OpenEMR9 [21]. The module provides data visualization through graphs and was tested in pediatric epidemiology. In dentistry [3] created the Open DentIS dental module for the University of the Philippines College of Dentistry (UPCD).

Dental informatics is the application of computer and information sciences to improve dental practice, research, education, and management [5]. Because the central idea in cognitive science is that thought is best understood in terms of representational structures in the mind and computational procedures that act on these structures, it has a strong relationship with information science and computer science.

OpenMRS

The emphasis here is not on information, but how it is represented, processed, manipulated and controlled in computer systems. On the other hand, cognitive science is a field that draws on multiple fields such as psychology, artificial intelligence, linguistics, and philosophy to develop theories about perception, thinking, and learning. Major research questions in this area include the process of communication between computers, control of traffic, and efficient use of bandwidth.

With the new OpenMRS Standalone, installation will be easily done by expanding the downloaded archive and running the extracted .jar file. The platform will be useful in small production environments; however, since it is new, it is still not stable and undergoing modifications [33].

Design and Implementation 19

DentISt will have two main types of roles - System Administrator and Clinicians. Clinicians can be further categorized into three types - general practitioners, Oral Diagnosis clinicians and faculty clinicians.

Use Case Diagrams

They can form the consultations/referrals, services rendered and edit the dental chart of a patient. They can also add and edit the patient's dental chart, services rendered and consultations/referrals. All clinicians, even those in oral diagnosis, can make appointments with patients assigned to them.

Faculty clinicians can view a list of scheduled clinic examinations with patients. However, they are based on fields set by the system administrator and faculty clinicians at their request. He can add, edit and delete user accounts and assign them the roles of clinician or system administrator.

The use case diagram of the system administrator and faculty clinician account management is shown in Figure 24.

Architecture 61

The dental module's web interface is coded in HTML and JSP, while jQuery is used as the Javascript framework. DentISt uses the Java language to connect to the OpenMRS database and perform various services. The database layer uses Hibernate, which is an Object Relational Mapper, to link database tables to the Service layer [38].

Results 63

Note that the UPCD functions channel can only be viewed if the dental module is loaded in the OpenMRS instance. On the Patient Information tab, Oral Diagnosis clinicians can edit basic information, physical assessment, and vital signs. On the basic information form, required fields include the patient's contact number and the caregiver's name and contact number.

The Medical and Social Data tab contains medical history, social history and patient checklist. The legend per graphic, as shown in Figure 51, is always present below the dental chart for easier viewing. Any doctor can edit the patient's dental chart by clicking the Add/Edit Dental Chart link.

The website is then directed to a page where clinicians can edit the dental chart by clicking on different tooth numbers and adding the necessary conditions. Clinicians are also able to view dental chart versions along with the date, time and user who last updated the record (shown in Figure 58. This will help ensure that updates to the patient dental chart are correct and definitive.

Also, the patient's dental data is included as a tab in the patient control panel and not in the navigation menu. Changes in tooth condition are first viewed in a widget (a photo of a single tooth) before being submitted and reflected on the patient's dental condition chart. This will help clinicians track changes to a patient's status chart and view the date, time, and username of the physician who last updated the dental chart.

Note that following the instructions below, Maven must be installed on the user's system.

If settings.xml does not exist in the folder, create it and copy the settings code located in the appendix (B.). In the command line, go to the folder where the project will be created (for example, your workspace folder).

I really can't afford to miss those moments with you all just because of this SP (loljk hindi lang sila-'lang' hehe).
