The Institute of Islamic Studies was created on November 22, 1973 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 342, as an integral part of the
Philippine Center for Advanced Studies (PCAS). With the abolition of the Center by Executive Order No. 543 issued by the President of the Philippines on July 9, 1979, the Institute was re-established as a separate unit of the University.
Its teaching personnel includes four regular faculty and six lecturers.
