CHAPTER 4 RESULTS
4.1.2 Pretest-Posttest Comparison
Figure 4.4 below displays the mean scores for the pretest and posttest which are 10.80 and 15.10 respectively. The mean of the posttest of the sample group was greater than the mean score of the pretest. The posttest scores represented by the orange bar confirmed a slight increase of 4.5 as compared to the pretest scores which is represented by the blue bar. Therefore, it can be concluded that every individual showed a certain improvement in terms of securing higher scores in the posttest.

A questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale, where 1= ‘Strongly Disagree’ to 5= ‘Strongly Agree’ was administered to gather the quantitative data to study the students’ perceptions regarding the use of TTV in English-speaking lessons. A set of 18 items were developed which were categorized under three broad clusters as Part A- Interest and Motivation, Part B-Engagement and Part C-Efficacy of TTV on Students’
Learning. The questionnaire was administered to all 30 (n=30) research participants.
The findings were analyzed using statistical description based on mean and standard deviation. A five-point Likert scale, 5 to 1 was interpreted with the mean score range from 4.21-5.00 as ‘Highest’, 3.41-4.20 as ‘High’, 2.61-3.40 as ‘Moderate’, 1.81-2.60 as ‘Low’ and 1.00-1.80 as the ‘Lowest’.
Figure 4.5 below presents the mean scores and the standard deviations for the students’ perceptions on Part A-Interest and Motivation. The students agreed that learning to speak English using TTV is fun (item 1) and interesting (item 3), with the highest mean of 4.83 and 4.70 respectively, which denotes the ‘Highest’ level of mean score range on a Likert scale. Although the mean score for items number 5 and 6 were comparatively low, however, the average mean score interpretation revealed that

The Table 4.6 below displays the mean scores and the standard deviations for students’ perceptions on Part B- Engagement. From the data, it is evident that most of the students accepted that all the activities related to TTVs were interesting and meaningful, with the highest mean of 4.6. When explored further through the interview, most students confirmed that they enjoyed the role-play activities so much.
The mean score for item number 9 on the comprehensibility of language used by the speakers was rated the lowest since many students may not have been exposed to such videos earlier. However, considering a high mean of 4.24, which still falls in the
‘Highest’ mean score range, the researcher concluded that the TTV enhanced students’
engagement.

The Table 4.7 below illustrates the mean scores and the standard deviations for students’ perceptions on Part C-Efficacy of TTV on student learning. Most students affirmed that regular use of TTV will enhance their grammar skills with a mean score range of 4.6 which falls in the ‘Highest’ level. This was attributed to the grammatically correct use of language by the speakers in the videos. Next, improvement in vocabulary range and pronunciation skills were also rated the
‘Highest’ with a mean score of 4.47 each. This is a strong indication that the use of TTV enhances students’ vocabulary and pronunciation skills. The average mean score for all six items under this cluster is 4.35 which signifies the ‘Highest’ mean score range. The lowest was rated for item number 15 regarding the improvement of fluency, which still denotes a high level of mean with 4.07. The researcher acknowledged this since fluency in any language is not something that can be achieved within a short time frame. Another important feature to note is the result for item number 17 where most students agreed that besides other language skills, watching TTV regularly could also help them enhance their presentation skills. Thus, considering all aspects, it can be established that the use of TTV regularly will enhance students’ overall language skills.

Nonetheless, considering an overall mean of 4.34, the researcher was convinced that most students exhibited positive perceptions towards the use of TTV in English-speaking lessons.
