Abstract:

The present study quantified the spatial variation of imazaquin sorption by using the soil-water sorption-partitioning coefficient (Kd), from an area of 38 ha of Dark Red soil at Embrapa Maize and Sorghum, Sete Lagoas, MG – Brasil. The samples were collected on the soil surface at 15 cm depth in an area under Central Pivot. Herbicide sorption was strongly correlated to soil organic matter content and pH, with greatest sorption occurring in soil samples with low pH and high organic matter content.

These samples were collected at no-till management area. The pH effect on imazaquin retention revealed to play an important role on both organic matter ionization and also on the imazaquin

speciation. The clay content in the area had no variation, however, it did not affect the Kd values. The prediction of herbicide sorption by soil using multivariate regression with two independent variables (soil organic matter content and pH) was highly significant with a calculated R2 of 0.91.
