Lantau Island is a popular and relaxing island in Hong Kong.

You can visit the Big Buddha on Ngong Ping Village or go on a 5.7 km cable car journey on Ngong Ping 360. You can also visit a fishing village with stilt houses in Tai O. Plan a few days here to get close to the nature of Hong Kong. There are many good hotels in Tung Chung, right on the island.

Victoria Harbour is the harbour between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. You can take the Star Ferry across it. Every day starting at 8 p.m., you can enjoy a light and sound show called A Symphony of Lights. Make sure to watch it from the Kowloon side. Diary

3rd January (Sat) Sunny

I finally got my black belt today!

When I was five years old, I had my first Taekwondo lesson. I held onto Mum’s leg and cried. I was so scared. Mum did all the moves with me because she wanted to tell me it was OK. Coach Tom asked me to punch on a thin wood board. I was so afraid but he kept encouraging me.

Taekwondo was not always fun or easy. I broke my elbow when I was seven years old. So I practised my kicks. I twisted my ankle later that year.

I could only practise my punches. There was a deadly virus spreading when I was ten. So I took online lessons and practised at home. I worked hard.

Mum did not learn Taekwondo. However, she helped me practise at home. She observed my forms and gave me feedback. She knew

I needed lots of energy. She avoided giving me food with high fat or sugar and prepared nutritious food for me. Thanks to her, I am able to stay fit and healthy. She is also my biggest fan. She never missed any of my competitions. She celebrated with me no matter whether I won or lost.

When I took the black belt examination today, I stayed calm and focused. I passed with flying colours! I’m very proud of myself! I’m also grateful for Mum’s support!

John is writing his diary entry. Read it carefully, choose the best answers for Questions 1-5 and complete Question 6.
