A) What is “list of figures” or “list of tables”?
It is a list of the captions (a line of text that found it below the picture or above the table to display it) for pictures, charts, and tables. It can be useful for creating a list of figures or tables within the document.
B) Mark the figure or table and then insert caption 1. Open a new document in MS Word.
2. Mark on the figure or table.
3. In the Reference tab, go to the captions group and then click insert caption.

4. Type the caption in caption box to be added below the figure.

Choose from the list of labels match the caption title.

You can add new label such as: 1. to give 1.1.
C) Modify a caption
Go to home tab, then point to styles gallery to see all styles specially caption style and click the right mouse button to modify the caption.

D) Format the list of figures or the list of tables
In the Reference tab, go to the captions group, and then click “Insert Table of Figures”.
Choose a list of figures according to document type. There are two types of documents: Printed document is creating a table of contents (contains headings and page numbers) and you can go to the page that you want. Online document is creating a list of figures for view online.
Change the “Formats” of the table of contents.
Select “Tab leader” that you want
Click “Modify” to change the font, the size, etc.
E) Create a list of figures or list of tables
To create list of figures, go to the beginning page in the same document, click References tab, and then insert “Table of Figures” from caption group.
Table of figures is automatically created.

F) Update a list of figures or a list of tables
Note: All above steps are applied if you want to create a list of tables.

Update the table of figures after doing changes in the contents of figures or tables.
(2)
When click on the table of contents, the updated table will appear.
