Abstract
To determine the suitability of applying IS to PPM admin, researcher used SWOT analysis as criterion to test the effects upon PPM admin four categories (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats).
To know the major steps of applying the IS researcher reviewed the PPM admin documents. And to determine the SWOT categories factors and the effects of applying IS on them researcher used structured interview sessions. The main results were applying IS had positive impact on PPM admin in all four categories. Therefore applying IS had an added value to PPM admin operations. Researcher recommended that PPM admin management should take advantage of this significantly change to set a suitable culture that support the new trends in PPM. Moreover, use the results of this analysis study to start building a suitable strategy, based on customer - internal and external ones-orientation. And harnessing information and communication technology to generate added value to all units and procedures in seek of continuous progress. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

3. The Role of Arab Fathers in Heritage Language Maintenance in New Zealand
Al-Sahafi, M (Al-Sahafi, Morad)
Abstract
This paper aims to explore Arab immigrant fathers' language attitudes and practices toward their children's heritage language maintenance in New Zealand. Using a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews, data were collected from 10 Arab immigrant fathers of children aged 14 and under, all living with their families in Auckland. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were used to gain insight into the participants' language attitudes and practices toward their children's heritage language maintenance.
The findings reveal that the participants were very positive toward the heritage language and its maintenance. Although the participants differed in their countries of origin, Arabic, as a pluricentric language, seems to operate as a unifying core cultural value (Smolicz, 1981) that intertwines with other core values such as religion and ethnic consciousness. While emphasizing the complementary nature of their own and their wives' roles in the process of heritage language maintenance, the participants highlighted some of their key roles and contributions as Arab Muslim immigrant fathers in the process of heritage language intergenerational maintenance, such as explicitly setting and monitoring family language policy, establishing co-ethnic contacts, and providing Arabic materials to enhance Arabic literacy learning among their children.

1. A Critical Review of the CELTA Syllabus within the Context of Saudi Arabia
Sulaimani, A (Sulaimani, Amjjad); Elyas, T (Elyas, Tariq)
Abstract
The focus of this paper is on the cultural aspects of the internationally, well-recognised and accepted international teacher training course known as Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), or rather, the lack of it. In what follows, we will first discuss the various aspects related to the importance of culture and its inclusion in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). Next, we will discuss the main highlights of the CELTA course and its main components and present a practical suggestion for implementing a short 'culture' component that can be easily integrated into the course where it will increase cultural awareness amongst new teachers embarking on a career abroad in a foreign country and hopefully achieve pedagogical competence when working abroad.

2. Acquisition of the Closing Diphthongs and in English L2 and Jamaican Creole: A Comparative Study
Mousa, A (Mousa, Ahmed)
Abstract
This study investigates the claim that the strategies used by second/foreign language learners are, more or less, the same as those used by speakers of pidgin/creole languages. To this end, the speech of two speakers of the well-known Broad Jamaican Creole is compared with the performance of Saudi learners of English, with respect to the pronunciation of the closing diphthongs and . The results show that the above claim is valid. Also, the behavior of the two groups corroborates that of child language, which will be taken as external evidence that adds to the existent literature of the logical problem of language learning. The behavior of the speakers in the three domains (i.e., L1, L2, and pidgin/creole languages) goes hand in hand with norms of historical change. That is, the two diphthongs have historically developed from the monophthongs used as substitutes. In addition, the centrality component in these diphthongs is a marked parameter, which is yet to be set before they could be mastered. The substitutes made by the speakers of Jamaican Creole and by Arab learners are the same chosen by the child.

3. Adding More Fuel to the Fire: A Study of Attrition in Formulaic Sequences by Adult Learners
Alharthi, T (Alharthi, Thamer)
Abstract
Because lexis constitutes the basis of pedagogic materials, foreign language (FL) learners are faced with the challenging task of acquiring a large vocabulary. One yardstick of fluent, accurate and idiomatic control of the language which has gained considerable popularity as a subject of research into second language (L2) is formulaic sequences, i.e. multiword items. Interestingly, there has been no research exploring the long-term attrition of formulaic language by L2 learners. This study has sought to begin addressing this gap. It aimed to find out whether adult non-native learners of English forget formulaic sequences knowledge that they have learned during their course of study. The participants were 81 male EFL learners. All participants were tested before and after the summer recess on their formulaic sequence knowledge using multiple-choice and close test formats. Quantitative findings show that different types of formulaic sequences are affected to different degrees by attrition. The results revealed greater attrition in recall (mean -22.90) than in recognition (mean -16.67) of formulaic sequences. More frequent or transparent formulaic sequences were retained more easily than infrequently used or less transparent ones. The pedagogical implications of these findings and suggestions for further research are discussed.

4. Utilizing Facebook in Language Classrooms: Social Constructivist and Affective Filter Approaches
Saaty, AA (Saaty, Ahdab A.)
Abstract
Interaction is a fundamental process in any learning environment for knowledge construction.
However, not every interaction leads to increased or meaningful learning. When interaction influences learners' meaning-making, we can say that interaction is meaningful. Facebook, as an emerging social network educational tool, has been increasingly implemented in second/foreign language classrooms.
This article aims to answer the following question: How can social constructivist theory and affective filter hypothesis re-conceptualize meaningful, collaborative online interaction through Facebook in second/foreign language settings? To explore the current state of research and inform future studies, this article reviews previous research on the use of Facebook in second/foreign language classes. All articles were accessed using Google Scholar, ERIC, and ProQuest databases. The researcher examines empirical studies published in peer-reviewed journals from 2007 to 2014. This article argues that social constructivist theory and affective filter hypothesis can help to illustrate the ways that Facebook as an educational tool, can enhance collaborative learning and meaningful interactions in second/foreign language settings. The researcher provides pedagogical implications of Facebook, as a useful and meaningful learning environment for language learners that could support, enhance, and strengthen their learning process. The researcher also addresses potential research directions for Facebook use in second/foreign language settings.

1. Predicting the susceptibility to gully initiation in data-poor regions
Dewitte, O (Dewitte, Olivier); Daoudi, M (Daoudi, Mohamed); Bosco, C (Bosco, Claudio); Van Den Eeckhaut, M (Van Den Eeckhaut, Miet)
Abstract
Permanent gullies are common features in many landscapes and quite often they represent the dominant soil erosion process. Once a gully has initiated, field evidence shows that gully channel formation and headcut migration rapidly occur. In order to prevent the undesired effects of gullying, there is a need to predict the places where new gullies might initiate. From detailed field measurements, studies have demonstrated strong inverse relationships between slope gradient of the soil surface (S) and drainage area (A) at the point of channel initiation across catchments in different climatic and morphological environments. Such slope-area thresholds (S-A) can be used to predict locations in the landscape where gullies might initiate. However, acquiring S-A requires detailed field investigations and accurate high resolution digital elevation data, which are usually difficult to acquire. To circumvent this issue, we propose a two-step method that uses published S-A thresholds and a logistic regression analysis (LR). S-A thresholds from the literature are used as proxies of field measurement. The method is calibrated and validated on a watershed, close to the town of Algiers, northern Algeria, where gully erosion affects most of the slopes. The gullies extend up to several kilometres in length and cover 16% of the study area. First we reconstruct the initiation areas of the existing gullies by applying S-A thresholds for similar environments. Then, using the initiation area map as the dependent variable with combinations of topographic and lithological predictor variables, we calibrate several LR models. It provides relevant results in terms of statistical reliability, prediction performance, and geomorphological significance. This method using S-A thresholds with data-driven assessment methods like LR proves to be efficient when applied to common spatial data and establishes a methodology that will allow similar studies to be undertaken elsewhere. 1. Ambulatory Health Monitoring System Using Wireless Sensors Node
Fezari, M (Fezari, Mohamed); Rasras, R (Rasras, Rachad); El Emary, IMM (El Emary, Ibrahiem M. M.)
Abstract
In this paper, we propose an improvement of our previous work in this field by developing a heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure monitor system based on new Arduino Mega micro-system device. It offers the advantage of portability over old embedded system (tape-based recording systems).
The paper focus on: how we implemented algorithms to analyze heart beat rate signals in real-time, how to fusion data of different sensors mainly here temperature and blood pressure and to transmit the data via radio frequency (Xbee module). Then explain a web server application for healthcare givers to access the data. In addition, it allows doctors to get the heart beat rate file of the patient by email every twenty four hours. It can also be used to control patients or athletic person over a long period. The system reads, stores and analyses the heart beat rate signals, body temperature repetitively in real-time. The hardware and software design are oriented towards a single-chip microcontroller-based system, hence minimizing the size. The important features of this paper are the implementation of extremums and energy in the algorithm to compute patient heart rate and detect any anomaly within the P wav in ECG signal. The first tests were encouraging. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).

1. Association between ANKK1 (rs1800497) and LTA (rs909253) Genetic Variants and Risk of Schizophrenia
Arab, AH (Arab, Arwa H.); Elhawary, NA (Elhawary, Nasser A.)
Abstract
Limited research has assessed associations between schizophrenia and genetic variants of the ankyrin repeat and kinase domain containing 1 (ANKK1) and lymphotoxin-alpha (LTA) genes among individuals of Middle Eastern ancestry. Here we present the first association study investigating the ANKK1 rs1800497 (T>C) and LTA rs909253 (A>G) single-nucleotide polymorphisms in an Egyptian population. Among 120 patients with DSM-IV and PANSS (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale) assessments of schizophrenia and 100 healthy controls, we determined the genotypes for the polymorphisms using endonuclease digestion of amplified genomic DNA. Results confirmed previous findings from different ethnic populations, in that the rs1800497 and rs909253 polymorphisms were both associated with risk of schizophrenia. Differences between the genotypes of cases and controls were strongly significant (P = 0.0005 for rs1800497 and P = 0.001 for rs909253). The relative risk to schizophrenia was 1.2 (P = 0.01) for the C allele and 0.8 (P = 0.04) for the G allele. The CC, GG, and combined CC/AA genotypes were all more frequent in cases than in controls. These results support an association between ANKK1 and LTA genetic markers and vulnerability to schizophrenia and show the potential influence of just one copy of the mutant C or G allele in the Egyptian population.

2. Recognizing and coping with our own prejudices: Fighting liberal bias without conservative input
Baumeister, RF (Baumeister, Roy F.)
Abstract
This commentary summarizes my struggle to overcome liberal bias without conservative input. I generally assume I am biased and constantly try to build a good-quality argument for the opposite view.
Trying to dispense with one's liberal values can help, if one is willing. Frequent self-tests help. Liberal biases include race, gender, and poverty, but also dislike of business corporations and even Western civilization. Feminism is the single strongest and most powerful bias.
