COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is a three-hour credit course that focuses on developing the students' reading skills. It is based on academic non-literary passages and interactive material ( audios, videos and online activities) which are intended to enhance the learning process.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to accomplish a number of objectives like:

1- developing vocabulary by applying effective strategies to clarify, analyze, and learn the meaning of new words in non-literary text

2- applying different critical thinking skills while reading like:

a- to analyze a text to identify its function b- to interpret evidence

c- to infer attitude

d- to distinguish facts from speculations

e- to make inferences f- to interpret infographics g- to consider counterarguments

3- viewing videos for general understanding and specific information; relating video content to reading texts and confirming predictions.

4- using prior knowledge and relating it to various types of texts 5- raising relevant and significant questions on the topic discussed

Quizzes 20 marks Midterm 20 marks

Course activities 20 marks Final exam 40 marks

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

 Students are expected to be punctual and attend all classes.

 Being absent for more than 25% of allocated course time means that the student will receive a DN (denied from final exam).
