Course Description: This course provides students with an overview of the current issues and trends in nursing education and practice. Students are challenged to examine how these issues and other current events shape nursing practice.
Learning Objective: Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1) Recognize the historical images that nursing profession passes through them throughout ages.
2) Explain the functions of national and international nurses’ associations.
3) Describe the nursing standards in clinical practice.
4) Explain common ethical, values, moral issues currently facing healthcare
professionals.
5) Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural diversity concepts, and its influence in providing a congruent, comprehensive, caring, and sensitive nursing care.
Course Requirements:
-Passing the assessment methods (quizzes, major examinations, discussion leadership).
Medium of Instruction:
English will be the medium of instruction.
Teaching/Learning Methods:
Lecture-Discussions; multimedia; self-learning; guided discussions.

Discussion Leader Description:
Discussion leaders are responsible for conducting 45 minutes of class discussion.
During week 2, each student will select one topic of interest from the course
topics list. The discussion leader should thoroughly read and understand the
discussion topic and come to the class with several questions that will help in guiding the discussion.. The rest of the class are required to thoroughly read the assigned reading and come to the class prepare d to participate in an active discussion. Unparticipating and lack of interacting with the discussion leader will result in deduction of the class participation points.
