The Department offers the following Higher Education degrees : Master without Thesis
Master of Science Doctor of Philosophy
The following are the general rules and regulations set by the FES regarding the program of higher education.
1. The student may require taking deficiency courses for a maximum of three terms depending or his background and specialization. The time taken to study these courses is not counted in his program for the degree envisaged.
2. The student is not allowed to register in graduate courses until he finishes his deficiency courses with a grade point average “Good” or better in case of having up to two deficiency courses left the student is allowed to register in graduate courses with the Department approval.
3. The grades of the deficiency courses are not included in the student’s cumulative grade point average.
4. The following table gives the required units that has to be registered by the student to fulfill the requirement of the degree the envisaged :

5. The time required for the student to complete his degree is as follows :
For master degree: not less than four semesters and a maximum of eight semesters.
For a Doctoral degree: not less than six semesters and a maximum of ten semesters excluding the summer semesters.
6. The time required for completing the degree starts with the registration of the graduate courses until the submittal of the thesis to the advisor.
7. The grade “Good” is the passing grade for the graduate courses.
8. A comprehensive examination, both written and oral, will be given only to the students working for their Doctoral degree during the semester following the completion of the course work. In case of failure, the student can retake the exam only once again during the following two semester.
9. After completing at least 50% of the courses with a grade point average of at least
“Very Good” the student seeking Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy is required to select a research problem and write a thesis proposal under the supervision of one or more advisors selected by the Department of concern to supervise and follow up his research work.
10. The thesis will be written in Arabic language and may be written in English with an extensive summary in Arabic.
11. After completion of the thesis, the student will have to defend it in a public lecture and in a front of an examining committee.
