ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Academic Policies

Academic Advising

Students and academic advisors must prepare for, actively participate in, and follow up on academic advising sessions. Academic advising should encourage students to explore multiple options and broaden their educational experiences.

Registration

In exceptional circumstances, the Dean may allow a student's credit load to drop below 12 credit hours. Non-national students who fall below 12 credit hours are subject to payment of full tuition for that semester.

Attendance

The student must complete a leave request form and specify the reason for the leave. A student who does not return from a Temporary Leave of Absence by the date specified in the leave request will be dismissed from the University.

Permanent Withdrawal from the University

The leave must be approved by the Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Services. A student has the right to appeal a decision regarding an application for temporary leave in accordance with the Student Objection Policy and Procedures.

Online Students Requests

A student in good academic standing usually has a maximum of two semesters of leave during their studies. To continue studying after a temporary absence, the student must contact the registrar's office and request reactivation of the student status.

Grading System, GPA, and Course Repetition

PG students can apply here to change major, scholarship or form of study (full-time or part-time). UG students can apply for the accelerated MSc program here for approval to register MSc courses.

Incomplete Grade

Failure due to academic misconduct (This grade can only be awarded after an academic misconduct hearing. A student may request to change this grade to F.).

Grade Changes and Appeals

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Approval of the dean of the relevant college (or designee) is required if a student wishes to repeat a course in which he/she previously obtained a grade of B- or lower. A student who fails a required course twice is subject to dismissal for failure to make satisfactory academic progress toward the student's degree (see ACA 3600 Academic Standing and Honors).

Academic Standing, Honors, Probation, and Dismissal Undergraduate Level

A student who fails a required course more than twice is subject to expulsion for failing to make satisfactory academic progress toward the student's degree. If students' CGPA remains below 2.00 at the end of the semester, they will continue on probation in the next regular semester.

Graduate Level

A student whose cumulative GPA (CGPA) falls below 2.00 is placed on academic probation for the following regular semester and noted on the student's academic record and grade report. In the event of a successful appeal against a decision on dismissal, the student will be placed on academic probation upon resumption of studies.

Official Communication Method (Email)

All appeals must be submitted to the Registrar's Office within five (5) working days of the decision date. The Office of the Registrar will refer the matter to the Academic Appeals Committee or Graduate Appeals Committee, as appropriate.
