The first edition of the Joint Arab Economic Report was published in August 1980, as a result of fruitful collaboration with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD). The 42nd edition of the Joint Arab Economic Report 2021 (JAER), which has been the case since its first edition published in 1980, covers the economic development of the Arab economies.

Public finance conditions in Arab countries improved during 2021 after the decline caused by the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Of the goods and services in Arab countries for which data are available, a decrease of about 3.5 percent, for reached about 14.2 percent at the end of 2021, compared to about 17.7 percent at the end of 2020.
