This paper presents the research conducted in order to define a general structure of the Employer Information Requirements (EIR) for the Inter-regional Superintendency for Public Works in the Lombardy and Emilia Romagna regions of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. In the light of the relevant state of the art at international level, as well as the regulations in force in the national context, a structure capable of being adapted to various types of contract has been developed, in such a way as to allow a standardisation of the same to optimise its use both by the Commission- ing Body and by Competitors. Moreover, the identification of a general structure that can be adapted according to the specific works paves the way for the process standardisation of the Commissioning Body.

The specifications described herein have been validated on a first case study and this has allowed the Authors to fine-tune the specifications according to the real needs of both the Commissioning Body and the Competitors. Further application of the proposed structure by other Commissioning Bodies and/or in other works would enable a validation, also considering the potential peculiarities of other Public Clients.

Design Stage

Introduction

Bruno Daniotti, Marco Gianinetto

The part II presents an overview of various research activities developed in order to support designers and clients in the first design stages, in the framework of progressive digital transformation and BIM introduction.

A new design approach is changing the traditional one with the introduction fo Building Information Modelling, allowing then to anticipate choices, preventing mistakes, pathologies and useless loss of time and economic troubles.

Some key topics are here discussed:

BIM platform for clash detection and code checking: in this part are presented innovative tools for a Clash detection as the verification of geometric interferences and can be a coordination problem in 3D BIM and Code checking as the verifi- cation of the compliance of the digital model with the corresponding regulation.

New design approaches: taking into account the architectural design activity two aspects are explored which requires more consideration from a methodological perspective; design optimization, and architectural simulation.

Digital parametric design is exploited to help defining, controlling and assessing architectural works and to develop sustainable and innovative surfaces for adaptive acoustics; new awareness on the topic of architectural acoustics design has pushed towardsfinding new integrated methodologies able to deliver tailored solutions for the design with sound, which embed performance criteria early in the design phase by means of simulation and computational techniques.

Smart city policies and related support tools: Smart City policies have attracted significant funding over the last few years. However, little evidence is available of their impact on urban economic performance. In this paper it’s studied the urban growth and innovation impact of Smart City policies.

Finally, specific studies are presented in order to investigate the changes in architecture and engineeringfirms due to digitalization: the main objective of this research project has been to understand the pro-cess-oriented and organizational changes that the adoption of digital technol-ogies bring on, as well as the new forms of process and organization associat-ed with the digital transformation of archi- tectural and engineeringfirms.
