For example, later in this essay I will report on trends from the international research of the WAC/WID International Mapping Project, this research is instrumental in the development of this publishing project. Of particular relevance to this publishing project is the example of the former National (US) Network of Writing in the Curriculum (WAC), which began in 1979 with a handful of US colleges and universities, gained Canadian members in the 1980s, and centered on the annual meetings of the National Council of Teachers of English (USA) and the Conference on Composition and Communication in Universities conventions (Thaiss, 2006).
TEACHING ACADEMIC LITERACY ACROSS THE
UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM AS INSTITUTIONAL POLICY: THE
SARMIENTO (ARGENTINA)
At the beginning of the implementation of the Programme, most of the subject lecturers were in one way or another obliged by the authorities of the Institute to participate in the Programme. The name of the program in Spanish is "Programa de Desarrollo de Habilidades de Lectura y Escritura Académicas a lo largo de la Carrera".

Students are spread across ten different CBC branches in the capital and Greater Buenos Aires. At the same time, some of the professors began graduate studies in writing and reading.

However, one attempt to address the issue of student literacy occurred in 1992, when Ros Petelin (2002), responded to a university-wide call for proposals for the Teaching and Learning Initiative, which at QUT was 'the first Write-on' the curriculum has been implemented. (WAC) program in the Australian Higher Education Sector' (Petelin, 2002, p. 98). ISS staff are looking at ways to further develop the idea that academic writing is firmly embedded in the fabric of the university's teaching and learning.

This chapter discusses the implications of all these factors in relation to the practical aspects of developing students' capacity to do academic work. Such student recruitment goals have implications for retention and achievement, recognition of which is reflected in forms of support provided for students' development of academic literacy. However, developing students' academic literacy is not simply a matter of economics, and models and programs are not theoretically neutral—.

The university has also made available to the SchreibCenter an office room and a lecture hall. Klagenfurt is the capital of the Austrian province of Carinthia (bordering Slovenia and Italy) and is located in a bilingual area with a German-speaking majority (517,000 people) and an indigenous Slovene-speaking minority (14,000). In the end, the possibilities and competences of the people available in the country were also taken into account.

Thus, similar textual arrangements occurred at the macro and micro level of the texts. However, students' use of the list style (and all other microtextual features) did not appear to have a major impact on the grades given to the assignments (except in cases where the texts consisted mainly of word lists, giving the impression that the respective seminar paper was a collection of bulleted lists). For the history and status of the seminar paper in the German university system, see Kruse (2006) and also Foster (2002).
I will briefly discuss the consequences of this new framework at the end of the article.
FROM REMEDIATION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF
WRITING COMPETENCES IN DISCIPLINARY CONTEXTS
THIRTY YEARS OF PRACTICE AND QUESTIONS
The CMU places its education and research in the context of linguistic support for first-year students. In addition, some researchers show an overestimation of the influence of students' lack of mastery of the standard language on the difficulties of training. Moreover, 'the mastery of language' is considered from the point of view of language practices (reading-writing) used in the medium of studies and the disciplinary field, and in conjunction with the modalities of this disciplinary knowledge construction.

ACADEMIC LITERACIES IN THE SOUTH: WRITING PRACTICES
Originally a rural university for the study and development of the local agricultural economic system and the field of health services, UFSM developed competencies in the fields of humanities, science and technology. The perception of the role of writing in academic life depends on the model of writing and on the type of student's engagement in the system of activities/genres that make up their university environment. As authors, these students engage with the complexity of academic writing social practices as part of the knowledge construction system at UFSM.

WORLDWIDE: ONE CANADIAN PERSPECTIVE
This combination of teaching writing in the context of literary analysis came to define the freshman literature course in many English departments in the early twentieth century, including the department at the University of Alberta (Graves 1994; Hubert 1994; Johnson 1991). . Composition Theory has been offered at the University of Alberta as an English and Film Studies course for a number of years; only in the last year or so has it been converted to a Writing Studies course. Faculty in Writing Studies also decided to capitalize on the teaching-level support for writing at the University of Alberta by developing options for graduate students to conduct research on writing in the disciplines.
Much has been accomplished in the short time since the final report of the Writing Task Force in 2008.
DEPARTMENT OF
RHETORIC, WRITING, AND COMMUNICATIONS AT THE
The Department of Rhetoric, Writing and Communication – the academic unit with primary responsibility for teaching writing at the University of Winnipeg – has undergone several changes over the past 20 years. As much as the literature refers to "rhetoric and composition" (or even "rhet/comp"), the relationship between the two in the United States has often been vexed. One of our main goals is to develop what Quintilian called facilitas—the ability to assess any rhetorical situation and respond appropriately, which is to say both effectively and ethically.
In fact, the ubiquity of writing centers in Canadian universities has led many to think that our former name, the “Centre for Academic Writing,” represented an entity that primarily offered assignment help rather than credit courses and degree programs.

In all language-related majors, there are writing courses with an emphasis on language skills. The Writing Center operates under the administration of the School of English Studies, but without a budget or staff members. Because there is no staff, each week the Writing Center Director posts available sessions on the office door.

Lack of understanding and misinterpretation of the ideas during the teaching or in the written explanations are respected. It included a program of teacher training on academic reading and writing in a university context. It showed the position defended in the experience and argued in support of explicit attention to literacy at university.
From the last study, the training of young researchers as writers, it is clear that training in reading and writing skills is needed as part of the research process in the university setting.
THE PROGRESSION AND
TRANSFORMATIONS OF THE PROGRAM OF ACADEMIC
By decision of the rector, a department was established that deals with issues of university reading and writing. In addition, several faculty members stated that they were unaware of the program or had doubts about its usefulness. Adequacy and quality of program components and content (grammar, spelling, reading and writing, selections from the reading plan).
The name of the course (Grammar – Academic Reading and Writing) from 2007 to 2009 indicates the mixture of two trends (normative and oriented towards academic literacy).
FROM WORKING WITH STUDENTS TO WORKING
GENRE-CENTERED FOCUS TO WRITING DEVELOPMENT
MASTER'S THESIS WRITING AND COMPLETION The most important question that prompted our university's leadership to open our writing program in 1992 was "How do we get our master's theses writers to timely completion without sacrificing the quality of their inquiries and their writing?" This is still probably the hottest topic in student writing in the eyes of university management and staff, although the Ministry of Research has introduced one major change: a six-month deadline to complete the thesis from the date the thesis contract is signed. 1 The six-month deadline was and is a revolution in a system that, until 2007, had never operated under any time limit. The dean's office has instructed us to accredit all thesis supervisors in the department - this means that most of the faculty will continue the supervisor course, a total of three hours plus the preparation and writing of an essay on thesis supervision. How theses supervisors in the Department of Humanities – among the most able and able writers and teachers of theses and dissertations and a host of other genres – respond to genre definitions and rather limited “box pedagogy”, formulation and schematic suggestions regarding what a supervisor can requirement in the planning and production of the text.
This piece of work represents a junction between our work so far on genre, on feedback and criteria for the 'good paper' and on the guidance of academic writing.
THE DEPARTMENT OF RHETORIC AND
AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO: ACHIEVEMENTS AND
In the eighties and nineties, the Writing Program received limited support from faculty and students. ECLT 112 (four credits) and 113 (five credits) were replaced by ECLT 101, 102, and 103 (three credits each), and the name of the program was changed from the First Writing Program to the Writing Program. To our knowledge, the Department is the first of its kind in the Middle East.
The Rhetoric and Composition Department was established to oversee training in the generation, articulation, development, exchange and evaluation of ideas.
