My friends, colleagues and clients at MBSA Consulting, for their unequivocal support during this period. The study deals with evaluating the growth strategy of MBSA Consulting, which is primarily aligned with the key principles of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE).
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDy
Strategic analysis - this involved the examination and analysis of the organization, its mission and goals. Strategy Implementation - Although not all diverse aspects of the chosen strategy have been implemented, some have.
MOTIVATION FOR THE STUDY
On the one hand, the academic factor suggests that research is oriented towards exploring things for their own sake, regardless of their applicability. Based on the above argument, it is extremely vital to evaluate the existing strategy by subjecting it to an academic framework.
VALUE OF THE PROJECT
One of the tender requirements of the municipalities is that the firm has full offices in their respective areas of jurisdiction. According to Lynch (2000), it is said that there are two factors that can be advanced as justification for the research study.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
RESEARCH OBJECTiVES
RESEARCH METHODOLOGy
One of the research objectives was to examine the future growth aspects of MBSA Consulting. Note: In example 1 above, a copy of the signed consent must be given to the participant.
SUMMARy
A STRATEGY FOR BROAD-BASED BLACK
Core Competencies
Hitt et al (2000:86) see core competencies as resources that serve skillfully as a source of a firm's competitive advantage over rivals.
Firm Resources and Sustainable Competitive Advantage
VISION, MISSION AND OBJECTiVES
Current legislation, as discussed in the literature review, emphasizes that the government has committed its support to BEE companies. Therefore, the answer can be transformed into willingness and acceptance by customers in general and that legislation and regulations will be applied accordingly. Respondents who are employees of MBSA Consulting were asked to indicate whether they agree or disagree with the statements. The statements were ranked and respondents were given a choice of five answers: very satisfied, somewhat satisfied, neutral somewhat dissatisfied, and very dissatisfied.
STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT/ FORMULATION
Hierarchical levels of strategy
Customers are the basis of successful business level strategies and every organization requires a business level strategy (Hitt et al 2000: 111). By choosing a business-level strategy, the firm (1) determines who the basic customer will be, (2) identifies customer needs, and (3) how those needs will be satisfied.
STRATEGIC IMPLEMENTATION
According to Hitt et al, strategy and structure have a mutual relationship that shows the interdependence between strategy formulation and strategy implementation. Another strategic action as cited by Hitt et al (2000) is strategic leadership which he describes as "the ability to anticipate, propose, maintain flexibility and empower others to create strategic change as needed". One of strategic leader's skills is the ability to manage human capital, the ability to manage knowledge and create commercialized innovation.
To be precise, it involves confronting the simultaneous search for opportunity and competitive advantage seeking behavior to design.
STRATEGY EVALUATION AND CONTROL
SUMMARy
The majority of respondents (69.20%) reported having met with MBSA in the past three years. According to the survey, 66.7% of respondents said they were very satisfied with the company's flexibility regarding family responsibilities. This recommendation contradicts the study's findings, which suggest the company should include non-HOls.
Research findings, as part of the researcher's undertaking to MBSA, will be disseminated to the organisation.
CHAPTER 3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGy
INTRODUCTION
In this chapter we will also discuss the sampling procedures and the sampling method that will be used in this research. From there, the data collection methods will be discussed and the method that will be used in this research will be highlighted. We will discuss the formulation of questions with the aim of creating a formal process of structuring data collection.
A lead meter questionnaire pre-test will be discussed and the process of conducting it in this research will also be explained.
RESEARCH PARADIGMS
RESEARCH APPROACH
According to Gill and Johnson, the logical ordering of induction is the reverse of deduction, it moves from the 'level' of observing the empirical world to the construction of explanations and theories about what has been observed. The inductive approach involves the development of a theory as a result of the observation of empirical data (Saunders et al. 2003). Those who endorse the inductive approach mention and criticize the deductive approach because of its tendency to construct an inflexible methodology that does not allow for alternative explanations of what is going on (Saunders et a/2003).
RESEARCH DESiGN
Grounded theory is the research strategy where theory is developed from data generated by a series of observations or interviews that mainly involve an inductive approach (Saunders et at: 2003). Saunders et a/ (2003) argue that research strategy gives the researcher more control over the research, although one tends to be delayed by information from others. The research strategies that were selected for this research are survey and case study methods rather than other methods mentioned.
The case study was chosen because the research aims to empirically investigate MBSA in a real context.
POPULATION
A survey is a research strategy, which involves the structured collection of data from a quantifiable population (Saunders et at: 2003). Data is usually collected by means of a questionnaire or interviews or a combination of the two. The basic idea of the survey method is to measure variables by asking people questions and then examine the relationships between the variables.
The survey method is a very popular and common strategy in business and management research (Saunders et at: 2003).
SAMPLING
SAMPLING METHODS
The advantage of probability sampling is that it is usually unbiased if the sampling frame is complete and the samples are appropriate, whereas in the latter it is impossible to assess whether the sample represents a specific or target population (Codwell and Herbst 2004:79). Codwell and Herbst (2004:79) mention that non-probability samples are selected using, for example, the expertise or judgment of the investigator. This sampling method is usually used in situations where it is difficult to isolate members of the desired or target population.
This technique was chosen because the researcher is already aware of the study's target participants.
Secondary data includes both quantitative and qualitative data, and it can be used in both descriptive and explanatory research (Saunders:2003). This form of secondary data is usually used in research projects that also use primary data collection methods (Saunders et a/: 2003). Survey-based secondary data are data collected from surveys that have already been analyzed for their original purpose (Saunders et al.
Secondary data from multiple sources is secondary data created by combining two or more different data sets before obtaining the data for the research.
QUESTIONNAIRE DESiGN
The researcher decided that the pre-test of the questionnaire will be conducted among the respondents to detect possible errors in the way the questionnaire. The results of the survey suggest that the majority (58%) of respondents believed that MBSA recruitment and affirmative action policies were justified given the South African context. The results indicate that 55.60% of the respondents were very satisfied with the opportunity to work on exciting projects, while 22.2% were fairly satisfied.
The results of the survey showed that 44.4% of the respondents were somewhat satisfied, 33.3% were very satisfied and 22.2% were neutral.
QUESTIONNARE PRE-TEST
DATA ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE
RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY ISSUES
The validity of the questionnaire is the extent to which the data collection method accurately measures what it was intended to measure (Rust and Golombok: 1989; Saunders: 2003). Face validity is concerned with describing the appearance of the questionnaire to respondents, that is, whether or not it looks like it measures what it claims to measure. Content validity is the relationship between the content and the purpose of the questionnaire, that is, whether or not there is a good match between the test specification and the task specification.
Criterion-related validity is the relationship between scores on the questionnaire and a criterion measure, while predictive validity relates scores on a questionnaire to a future criterion measure.
ETHiCS
According to Rust and Golombok (1989), there are several types of validity, the simplest of which are face validity, content validity, criterion-related validity, and predictive validity. Finally, a well-organized, typed document stating the title, objectives of the study, the place where the research will be conducted, the research methodology, the sample, whether it is a qualitative or quantitative study and carefully filling in the various sections. about how data will be collected, secured and disposed of once the research is complete to maintain confidentiality.
SUMMARY , '"
The use of graphs will be used extensively to present the findings of the survey. The majority of respondents (77.4%) are of the opinion that MBSA has a good potential for growth. The rest of the respondents indicated that they were of the opinion that the MBSA should not include non-HOI members.
The results of the survey indicate that 44.4% of respondents were very satisfied with MBSA, 22.2% were somewhat satisfied, while 22.2% were neutral and 11.1% were somewhat dissatisfied.
CHAPTER 4 - RESULTS AND ANALySiS
INTRODUCTION
34; To what extent is MBSA Consulting's future growth feasible given the challenges mentioned. The questionnaire was divided into three topics (See appendix 1): Section A which dealt with demographics and issues common to all respondents; This second section was aimed at obtaining the views of customers and potential customers, the purpose of which was to establish their attitude towards MBSA and HOI companies in general and finally Section C, which dealt with specific issues related to MBSA employees .
The primary objective was to assess various aspects, including those related to staff retention, to the employee satisfaction index.
- MBSA Reputation
- MBSA Potential Growth
- Incorporation of non-HDI members into MBSA
- Services offered by MBSA and additional services that can be offered
- MBSA as "Service provider of choice to improve quality of life"
- Willingness of experienced HDls to work for MBSA
- Fairness of Black Economic Empowerment
- MBSA recruitment and affirmative action policies
The graph above (FigA.2) shows that the largest percentage of respondents (57.69%) are clients of MBSA Consulting. A small proportion of respondents (6.30%) did not want to answer and there was no respondent who thought that MBSA's reputation was bad. The balance of respondents (22.60%) think that MBSA had a fair chance of growth.
It was found that 84.30% of respondents were of the opinion that experienced HDs would be interested in working for MBSA, while a marginal 3.5% of respondents felt that experienced HDs would not be interested in working for MBSA. worked for MBSA.
SECTION B - CLIENTS ONLY '" 65
The response rate was positive and the study achieved more than eighty percent (80%) of the response rate. According to the findings of the study, it is concluded that MBSA is a small to medium sized company; therefore MBSA falls under the SME sector. Although most of the participants indicated that they considered the reputation of this firm to be good, only a minority indicated that the firm was very good.
The study concluded that one of the reasons clients hire MBSA is because the firm is a BEE company. If you do not want to participate, just hand in the blank questionnaire at the end of the survey session. I am fully informed about the study being conducted and understand what is required of me.
