“Die graad 6 groep was die eerste groep wat daarin kon slag om ‘n Com- rades in ‘n week te voltooi. In week twee het grade 3,4,6,7 en die personeel daarin geslaag en in week drie het grade 4,6,7 en personeel dit bereik,’’ sê sy.
Hierdie week is die laaste week wat die Samies aan die projek deelneem.

Hospitals including Wesvaal Hospital in Orkney as well as the Duff Scott hospital in Stilfontein are still not fully utilised yet.
Nico Masiu, spokesperson of the Klerks- dorp/Tshepong Hospital complex, said facilities at Tshepong are fully functional.
“Ward 1 is used for treatment of Co- vid-19 patients, ward 2 for Patients Under Investigation (PUI) for mild symptoms, ward 3 is Covid-19 High Care and ICU and ward 4 is a respiratory
ward.”
Meanwhile, in Klerksdorp Hospital patients under investigation are admitted as ward 9 is used as a treatment ward. Orkney’s Westvaal Hospital is fully functioning and 120 of the 250 beds are
used for mild covid-19 positive cases including six ICU beds.
“We are in the process of opening up the rest of the beds, but if need be, Duff Scott Hospital in Stilfontein has been put on alert to open,’’ said Masiu.
“Potchefstroom Hospital has 26 treat- ment beds excluding a PUI ward. The main advice that we strategically share in the sector is to encourage self-isolation and self-quarantine, if not possible to institutionalise,” he added.
Masiu explained that institutional isola- tion will not completely prevent trans- mission due to possible undiagnosed
Covid-19 cases in our communities. This is due to asymptomatic carriers and mild cases which are not being diagnosed timeously. “The public must take note that self-declaration and testing is highly encouraged, but testing of asymptomatic individuals is currently discouraged as we need to conserve our test kits to patients with signifi cant symptoms as it has a bearing on clinical management,”
he said.
The Department of Health is in the process of appointing nursing staff and
admin for Westvaal Hospital and have recently advertised posts as part of continuous recruitment process.
The private hospitals in Klerks- dorp reassure people that beds are available when needed.
TJ Mokoena, spokesperson at Life Anncron Hospital, said
“nobody will be shown away”.
The hospital has 32 beds in their Covid ward and their ICU has 16 beds attached to ventilators. “The situation is grim, but if needed we will make more beds availa- ble in other wards,” said Mokoena.

Wilmed Park Hospital, assured Klerks- dorpians that they have beds available in the MMHS Group (Wilmed Park and Sunningdale hospitals).
“We can accommodate Covid patients.
It depends on how many people need hospitalization at the same time. That changes daily,” said Steenkamp.

by Mohanoe khiba Klerksdorp Record, Kanana - The policewoman that was murdered in Kanana was probably beaten to death by a golf club and a
hammer found on the crime scene.
Her ex-boyfriend was later found dead after he was the main suspect in Sgt Martha Mamoitoyi Bouwer’s (41) murder. Her body was discovered on Wednesday 1 July around 19:50 at her house in Ext 14 Ka- nana. The couple had an 8-year-old daughter together.
According to the provincial police
spokesperson Brig Sabata Mokgwa- bone, Sando Khandile (40) was found hanging from a tree between no 6 and 7 shaft near Orkney at approximately 17:30 on Saturday 4 July.
Bouwer’s uncle Pule Mogoera said:
“We did not expect this. We are very sad. We found a golf stick and a hammer with blood on that were probably used as weapons to kill my niece.”
On Monday 6 July, Matlosana Mayor Maetu Kgaile, the ANCWL Kenneth Kaunda Regional Secretary Kedibone Chabalala and other women visited the family to share
their condolences.
Chabalala said: “The women, chil- dren and progressive men of our coun- try including in Dr Kenneth Kaunda region have marched, signed petitions, held prayers, issued statements and killing of women still continues.
“Men must tell us what we have done wrong. Hopefully after we apolo- gized they will stop raping and killing us. What is our sin that we have com- mitted to deserve to be raped and killed by men?”
Mayor Kgaile said God gave men more powers than women, but unfor- tunately men misuse those powers by abusing women.
“Men that we trust and think that they are our friends, are the ones who kill us,” she added. Bouwer’s funeral service will be held at her house, 22832 Ext 14 Kanana from 08:00.
K l e r k s d o r p R e c o r d , Klerksdorp - The MEC for Department of Com- munity Safety and Trans- port Management, Sello Lehari has noted with regret the five Covid 19 cases reported by vari- ous traffic stations in the province.
Three cases were re- ported in Dr Kenneth Kaunda District and one each in Dr Ruth Segomot- si Mompati and Bojanala districts respectively.
The department has taken all precautionary measures as prescribed;
closing the affected traf - fic stations, conducting
decontamination process on all of them, offering psychosocial support to staff was done.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Health workers and people working in hospitals are increasingly panicked due to a spike of infec- tions at local hospitals.
Hospitals cannot close down, says Nico Masiu of the Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital Complex, and even though hospital ma-
nagement is concerned about employees the rate of infection among staff members are increasing rapidly.

Prof Binu Luke, Chief Specialist Physician at the hospital complex, said Covid-19 infec- tions tripled in the last three weeks of June in both the public and private sector and he advised that staff be extra cautious during lunch time and tea breaks.
“Most staff to staff transmission happen during these breaks. To avoid the pressure as- sociated with closure of a company or facility, staff members are advised to be extra cautious during lunch and tea periods.
“Staff must observe social distancing and
practice hand hygiene to prevent transmis- sions. At all times, make use of provided personal protective equipment, particularly masks.”
It is important to maintain social distancing when eating or drinking.
“Please do not drink directly from the same source as someone else. Don’t share. Use your own glass. Maintain distancing and re- frain from behaviour that would compromise your health and lead to unnecessary Covid-19 testing and quarantine and or hospital admis- sion,” Masiu said.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The matrics at THS Klerks- dorp had a great time at an informal farewell ceremony just for them.
This event took place over lunch on 25 June and it was held at the school.
According to the principal, Stephen Pitts, the educators wanted to do something special for the matrics as they have lost so much “memories’’ this year with no sport or cultural activities due to Covid-19.
Klerksdorp Record attended and all the matrics were in a good mood. They said they are so proud of their school as the school did something special for them.
The school had a “takeaway” farewell where the matrics could order from their favourite restaurant and it was delivered.
The Spur was the most popular and everybody enjoyed their lunch while practicing social distancing.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The police are concerned about common robberies hap- pening particularly in the CBD.
According to Sgt Amogelang Mabihi, police spokesperson, they appeal to the public to be alert when walking or shopping in town as people are now covering their faces with masks owing to Covid-19 regulations which makes it quite difficult to identify the perpetra - tors of crime.
“While we do our utmost best to conduct patrols, it is impossible to cover all the areas all the time. People are being robbed while sitting inside their vehicles by criminals op- erating in pairs, one will distract the driver while the other opens the car to steal the va- luables such as cellphones, wallets, hand- bags, laptops, groceries etc.
“Women in most cases are targets as they are defenseless. Robberies at ATMs are also problematic.
“Be alert at all times. Check your surroun- dings and suspicious people following you.
Keep all valuables out of sight, cellphones and wallets that are visible in the pockets makes you a target for criminals. Do not talk to strangers. Always ensure that your groceries are placed in the boot and the vehicle is safely locked before leaving. Do not walk alone in isolated places,” she said.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The South African National Blood Service is exploring ways to use blood plasma for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
SANBS said in a statement that they will start collec- ting convalescent plasma from patients who have reco-vered from Covid-19. This plasma will be used in phase 2 clinical trials to confirm whether this therapy will be of benefit to patients admitted to
hospitals with pneumonia caused by the virus.
Convalescent plasma, plasma collected from patients who have recovered from a viral infection, has long been used as a way to treat patients still critically ill from the same viral infection. It contains neutralising antibodies and provides passive immunity to an infected patient, significantly improving their clinical status often helping them to recover quicker. It has not yet been
used in the South African context.
Such therapy was explored for patients in West-Africa for the treatment of the Ebola Virus and before that, it was successfully used to treat SARS-CoV and MERS- CoV. Antibody treatments should take several months to complete. SANBS intends to start collecting convales- cent plasma from donors who have fully recovered. To
be eligible to donate, 28 days must have elapsed since the patients last exhibited symp- toms of infection. This gives the patient time to develop sufficient antibodies to be therapeutic and to have fully recovered from the disease. Initially, these plasma products will only be issued in patients participating in SAHPRA approved phase II clinical trials.

“Die mense het ons gemis en ons vir hulle. Dit is ‘n stap terug na normaliteit,”sê sy. Dié eetplek is bekend vir sy buffetete op Sondae wat tydens die vlak nie aangebied mag word nie.
Giulio Bibego van Fausto’s sê die kliënte is min, maar hy is vol hoop.
“Hulle moet egter kom want my uitgawes is hoog,” vertel hy.
“Die gereelde kliënte is besig om terug te kom en dit voel goed om almal weer te sien. Kliënte word soos familie,” sê hy.
Roast Café en Deli is ook oop vir besigheid en kliënte kom terug. “Sommige is bang om uit te kom, maar ons kla nie. Ons mag nie alkohol verkoop nie en dit is ‘n groot probleem. Alles sal weer normaal wees as ons alkohol kan verkoop,”sê eienaar Rheinholdt Kade.
Hy is egter vol hoop... “Dit is ‘n stap in die regte rigting. Die eerste week was goed.”
Volgens Mauro Maddonni, eienaar van Dante’s Pizza, werk hy nog net op aflewerings en afhaal van bestellings.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Basic Education Minister, Angie Mot- shekga updated the nation on the phased return of pupils to school on Sunday 5 July, including the date of the matric exam.
“Because of loss of time and days, we have been really looking around assessments to say how we are go- ing to assess the internal grades with continuous loss of time,” she said.
The minister said the Department
has agreed to move the National Senior Certificate exams from the usual starting date in October to 9 November, aiming to finish around 22 December. Motshekga said marking of the papers will begin in January 2021.

With cleaner air, nature returning to urban areas and less poaching, it seems that, at least for the time being, the pandemic has eased the human footprint on nature.
As quarantine measures take hold across the world, our towns and cities are falling silent. With most people indoors, the usual din of human voices and traffic is being replaced by an eerie, empty calm. The wild- life we share our concrete jungles with are noticing, and responding.
You’ve probably seen posts on social media about animals being more visible in urban centres. Animals that live in cities or on their outskirts are exploring the empty streets. There have not been many bright spots in the coronavirus pandemic, but one has been the apparent return of nature as the frantic pace of modern life has slowed.
Cities are also noisy places, and the noise affects how different species commu- nicate with each other. Birds have to sing louder and at a higher pitch than their rural counterparts which affects the perceived quality of their songs. With reduced traffic noise we could see differences in how bats, birds and other animals communicate per-
haps offering better mating opportunities.
But what happens to the natural world when lockdowns left and the pandemic pe- ters out? The global economy is in trouble, facing potentially its worst ever recession.
Governments are expected to prioritise a rapid return to growth, and one of the first casualties of the panic is likely to be envi- ronmental regulation or “green tape” as it’s often called.
Where environmental regulations are seen to threaten or delay short term eco- nomic growth, they are often weakened. As governments seek to deduce budget deficits and unemployment, the pressure to dilute environmental protection, by exempting recovery efforts from proper assessment, will be severe.
In previous economic downturns, govern- ments have strived to weaken environmen- tal legislation by shrinking the role of public participation and reducing the time allowed for environmental assessments of new de- velopments. Given how steep the economic downturn is likely to be post-pandemic the scale and speed at which so-called “green tape” will be cut to try and revive growth
likely to be greater than anything previously experienced. In fact, it’s already started.
In India, environmentalists argue that the government is weakening the law and environmental impact assessments to allow projects to go ahead without proper clear- ance or public consultation. Without properly assessing how hundreds of projects might affect the environment and consulting local people, the government is more likely to ap- prove developments that are bad for nature and communities.
In Canada, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers sent a 13 page letter to the federal government asking for the suspension of dozens of environmental regulations because of the pandemic.
The Australian commonwealth govern- ment meanwhile is looking to amend natio- nal environmental laws to save Aus. $ 300 million per year.
In South Africa, mining resumed in the third week of April 2020 while the rest of the country remained in lockdown, new regula- tions were adopted in April. That suspended the usual environmental regulatory proces- ses for the duration of the lockdown period.
The future of environmental
protection... The environmental benefits that many people have noticed since the lockdown began may just disappear post pandemic. A bonfire of green tape could mean the situation for the natural world is considerably worse than before Covid-19.
Environmental protection measures were hard won over decades by campaigners and lawmakers. Weakening these controls could accelerate the degradation of eco systems already wracked by climate change and other threats. Any changes in environ- mental legislation will, even if introduced as a temporary measure, undermine carefully negotiated gains and be difficult to reverse.
Not only does slashing environmental regulations invite lasting harm to nature, it also makes little economic sense. Far from strangling economic growth, legislation that safe-guards the environment is actually good for business. A study from Oxford Uni- versity found that projects which cut carbon emissions create more jobs and deliver higher returns than, traditional stimulus packages in the short and longer term. But hasty decisions to “cut green tape” now will

have permanent consequences for the environment.
Environmental Laws aren’t luxuries, they’re essential to human survival and a viable future. The pandemic is an opportunity to invest in accelerating the shift towards sustainability, not to abandon it in the name of short term recovery at any cost.

As expected of Matlosana Local Municipality, the advertise- ment appeared in the newspaper literally hours before the meet- ing was scheduled to take place. Wonder whether the meeting materialized and how many persons attended, despite the short period of notice given? Or should one rather be grateful that the advertisement had even appeared at all?
Reference to the quoted act was incomplete due to omitting, as amended, at the end of the reference to the act.
It seems to be too difficult to get the initials of the municipal manager correct as TSR and not TRS as appeared at the bot- tom of the advertisement.
Maybe someone can inform what the legal implications of above could be.
