Vryburg Tafelrondte het Vrydag (8 Julie) in samewerking met OFM, ‘n projek geloods vir die insameling van komberse en nie- bederfbare produkte vir behoeftiges in Vryburg. ‘n Hele aantal komberse en produkte is ontvang en sal deur die organisasie uitgedeel word. Marius Durand (links) en Elzette Boucher-Kruger van OFM is hier saam met Tafelrondte voorsitter, Markus Fourie by die insamelingspunt net buite Vryburg.

Gemeenskap keer rowers aan

STELLALANDER-JAN KEMPDORP: Gemeenskapspolisiëring het verseker dat twee beweerde gewapende rowers gevang en veilig agter tralies geplaas word.

Op Dinsdag (5 Julie) het die twee manlike verdagtes probeer om ‘n werknemer van ‘n vulstasie te beroof wat probeer het om geld by

‘n OTM buite ‘n bank in die Jan Kempdorp- middedorp te deponeer.

Die verdagtes het die slagoffer met ‘n rewolwer en ‘n mes gedreig en die sak geld geëis.

Gemeenskapslede wat die voorval waargeneem het, het die rowers begin jaag - waarop die rowers twee skote afgevuur het. Die gemeenskapslede

het die verdagtes aangekeer en toe die polisie gekontak. Die polisie het ook op die vuurwapen en mes beslag gelê. Die verdagtes word vir gewapende roof aangekla.

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Charlretha Brooks is

‘n oudleerling, ook voormalige onderhoofdogter van Colinda Laer- en Hoërskool in Vryburg.

Sy het in 2008 gematrikuleer en het haar studies voortgesit by Noordwes Universiteit te Potchefstroom.

Sy het haar eerste graad in BA Psigolgie, Afrikaans en Nederlands voltooi in 2013, waarna sy skoolgegee het by verskeie skole.

Na ‘n insident by die skool waar sy heeltemaal magteloos gevoel het, het sy besluit om maatskaplik te studeer. Sy wou meer doen as net ‘n onderwyser wees. Sy het toe haar graad in 2018 verwerf en het aansoek gedoen vir haar Meesters. Sy het onlangs haar Magister in Maatskaplike Werk - Kinderbeskerming met onderskeiding geslaag.

Haar navorsingstitel was “Educators preferences regarding the content of a school bullying programme”.

Sy was onlangs uitgenooi na ‘n globale simposium (IAWG) in New York waar sy haar navorsing op ‘n virtuele platform moes aanbied. Deo Volente beplan sy om haar PhD volgende jaar voort te sit, indien daar befondsing beskikbaar sal wees.

“Ek wil graag ‘n globale boelie program ontwikkel om kwesbare kinders te bemagtig om vir hulle self op te staan en te beskerm, “sê Charlretha. Charlretha sê haar raad aan jong mense is dat hulle nooit moet toelaat dat omstandighede hulle definieer nie, maar eerder dit as ‘n maatstaf te gebruik om uit hul omstandighede uit te styg.

Hoof van Griekwa-koningshuis sterf

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Die Griekwa Koninklike Huis en Barendse-Griekwa-koningshuis betreur die afsterwe van een van sy leiers, Hoof Chris Pienaar, wat Vrydag (8 Julie) in Vryburg aan kanker oorlede is.

“Hy was ŉ seun van die aarde, ŉ reus tussen reuse, ŉ leier, ŉ dienskneg van die mense, ŉ Griekwa!” sê kaptein Aaron Martin William Messelaar, woordvoerder van die koningshuis. “Hy was ŉ baie nederige en lojale lid wat onder die leierskap van kaptein Minnie Barendse gedien het. Sy het hom as die leier van die Barendse-Griekwa-gemeenskap aangestel onder die vaandel van die Griekwa Koninklike Huis.” Pienaar het altyd gestreef na die erkenning van die Griekwa-gemeenskap as ŉ geheel. “Sy droom was om te sien hoe die gemeenskap verenig en dat hulle suksesvol sal wees in hul stryd vir grondhervorming en erkenning van die Khoi-taal,” het Messelaar gesê. Pienaar was betrokke by inisiatiewe oor grondhervorming en het ook op die Pan Suid- Afrikaanse Taalraad (Pansat) in Noordwes gedien. Pienaar was ook ŉ lid van die Griekwa Forum vir Nasionale Eenheid en was deel van militêre veterane en het in dié provinsiale struktuur gedien. Pienaar het op 3 Julie 2022 amptelik Etienne Badenhorst aangestel as die regent om namens hom oorsigtelik op te tree en leiding te neem. “Die Griekwa Koninklike Huis wens die Pienaar-familie sterkte toe en troos in dié moeilike tyd.” Pienaar laat sy eggenoot, Selma Pienaar, een seun en drie

STELLALANDER-MADIBOGO: The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed the 18 years imprisonment sentence handed down to Thabo Mashabane (34) by the Atamelang Regional Court on Friday (8 July).

Mashabane’ sentencing emanated from his arrest on 28 August 2021, at Madibogo village outside Mahikeng for killing a 29-year-old Ohaletse Loabile. It was reported that the pair had a quarrel few days before the fatal incident. The angry Mashabane went to the victim’s home, broke the windows and the door of the house. Loabile tried to run away, but Mashabane took chase and hacked him with a spade. Loabile was declared dead at the scene. Mashabane has been in custody since his arrest. Lieutenant General Kwena praised the investigating officer, sergeant Maine and prosecution for ensuring the arrest and subsequent conviction of the accused.

18 Years handed down to murderer

STELLALANDER-WOLMARANSSTAD: ‘n Baie bekende klerewinkel by ‘n winkelsentrum in Wolmarransstad, was in ligte laaie, nadat daar ingebreek is en die winkel toe aan die brand gesteek is.

‘n 17-jarige seun het Maandag (11 Julie) in die Wolmaransstad- landdroshof verskyn vir inbraak en brandstigting. Die beskuldigde se hofverskyning spruit uit sy inhegtenisneming in die vroeë oggendure van Vrydagoggend (08 Julie). Volgens inligting het veiligheidswagte op

‘n geaktiveerde alarm by een van die winkelsentrums in Wolmaransstad gereageer. Die polisie, paramedici en brandbestryders is na die toneel ontbied. In die proses om die brand te blus, is die verdagte wat blykbaar toegang deur die dak verkry het, in die winkel flou gevind. Die verdagte is gered en na die hospitaal geneem waar hy vir rookinaseming behandel en later ontslaan is. Daar is sedertdien vasgestel dat die verdagte onder die sorg van sy ouers geplaas is nadat hy in hegtenis geneem is en in Mei vanjaar voor die hof verskyn het vir diefstal. Voorlopige misdaadtoneelondersoek het aan die lig gebring dat die winkel tot as verbrand het. Die distrikskommissaris van dr Kenneth Kaunda, majoor-generaal, Suzette Pretorius, het die Wolmaransstad-speurders en ander rolspelers geloof vir hul vinnige reaksie wat gelei het tot die redding en inhegtenisneming van die verdagte.

Klerewinkel tot as verbrand

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: ‘n Nuwe tendens van roof het onlangs aan die lig gekom en volgens inligting het daar reeds drie soorgelyke voorvalle in Vryburg plaasgevind en twee in Schweizer- Reneke.

Marnus van Zyl van Vryburg vertel dat hy op ‘n Vrydagmiddag om 12:00 by ‘n verkeerslig op die hoek van Delareystraat en Markstraat in Vryburg reg agter ‘n wit Polo met geen nommerplaat en donkerruite getop het. Die verkeerslig het oorgeslaan na groen en omdat die Polo nie gery het nie, het Marnus sy Isuzubakkie se toeter gedruk. Twee mans met balaklavas oor hulle koppe, het met vuurwapens in die hand agter uit die Polo geklim. Marnus vertel dit het so vining gebeur dat hy nie eers kon wegtrek nie. Een van die gewapende mans het die wapen teen sy nek gedruk en gesê dat hy die passasierdeur moet oopsluit. Een gewapende man het voor langs hom ingeklim en een ander het agterop die bakkie geklim. Die rowers het Marnus laat ry tot by ‘n oop stuk veld in Warrenweg waar hulle na sy selfoon gevra het. Marnus sê hulle het nooit na sy beursie gevra nie. Die rowers het sy selfoon se pinkode gevra, terwyl ‘n wapen in sy sy gedruk was. Die rowers het sy bank- toepassing op die foon oopgemaak en Marnus gedwing om al die geld - omtrent R 7000 - na sy eie foon per e-wallet oor te plaas. Hulle het toe met Marnus gery na ‘n winkelsentrum met OTM’s en hom gestuur om die geld te trek. Hulle het hom gedreig en gesê dat hulle sy bakkie sou vat indien hy nie met die geld terugkeer nie. Dit was sy pa se bakkie met geen versekering nie. Nadat Marnus die geld getrek het, het die rowers met hom op die Ganyesa/Vryburgpad uitgery. Hulle het ‘n paar kilometers uit die dorp gestop, die bakkie se sleutel oor die wildkamp se draad gegooi en in die Polo op die vlug geslaan. Nadat die rowers gevlug het, het Marnus, wat gelukkig ongedeerd was, na die bakkie se sleutels in die veld gaan soek. Hy het ongelukkig nie ‘n saak by die polisie aangemeld nie. Goeie advies is om, wanneer jy by ‘n verkeerslig of stopstraat agter ‘n ander voertuig stilhou, genoeg spasie te laat sodat jy kan wegkom - al is daar ook ‘n voertuig agter jou.

Nuwe tendens van roof

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The vigilance of two Vryburg Police officers resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old minibus occupant on Saturday (9 July), for possession of 21 suspected stolen sheep.

Members of Vryburg Community Service Centre were conducting patrol on the N14 road between Vryburg and Kuruman at about 01:00, when they spotted a suspicious and stationary minibus along the road. Upon approaching the vehicle for enquiries, the police saw two individuals fleeing from the scene leaving a 32-year-old man behind.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of 21 sheep which were found loaded in the minibus. The suspect was arrested after failing to account for the possession and the vehicle was impounded. Preliminary investigation showed that the minibus ran out of petrol while the suspects travelled to a yet to be determined destination from Kuruman in Northern Cape where the sheep were allegedly stolen at Tsineng village. The lawful owner of the sheep was traced through tattoo marks on the sheep. Investigation into the matter is underway and the suspect appeared in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday (11 July).

In another unrelated incident, a 41-year-old suspect also appeared in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday (11 July) on a charge of stock theft. It is alleged that a farm owner on the Delareyville/Vryburg road observed unknown males in a camp at his farm slaughtering his Bonsmara cattle during the night of Friday (8 July) and alerted the police. Consequent to observation by the police, the identified Mahindra SUV vehicle transporting the slaughtered cattle was spotted, chased and ultimately stopped. Although two suspects managed to run away and evaded the arrest, the driver was apprehended. Upon searching the vehicle, the police found two slaughtered cattle carcasses in the vehicle which was impounded.

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Detectives from Vryburg SAPS secured the following convictions on two murder cases.

On Thursday (23 June) 30-year-old Lalelani Lovungo was sentenced to 17 years direct imprisonment by the Regional Court in Vryburg. He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000) and his name will be entered into the National Child Protection Register to be declared unfit to work with children. The sentencing of Lovungo emanate from an assault that occurred on 10 September 2021 in an informal settlement in Colridge. On the said day, Lovungo and the victim who previously had been in a relationship, were both at a tavern in the settlement, when the accused started assaulting the victim. She left the tavern to go to the home of her aunt and was followed by the accused. The accused continued to assault her along the way. As they reached the home of the victim’s aunt, the vicious assault continued and the victim’s aunt tried to intervene, but she was overpowered by the accused. The assault with of hitting and kicking continued until the victim, Karabo Makolonkwane (17) lost consciousness and the Emergency Medical Response Service who attended to the scene declared her dead. Vryburg police investigated a murder case and arrested the accused the same evening with the assistance of the victim’s aunt and the community. On 29 September 2021, the investigating officer sergeant Lebone Maine successfully opposed bail and Lovungo remained in custody until the date of his sentencing.

In an unrelated case, 30-year-old Petrus Robinson was at a tavern with his friends on 4 November 2018, when a man walked in and started insulting Petrus and a fight ensued.

Bystanders managed to intervene and stopped the fight and the man left the place. The 31-year- old John Goitsemodimo Mokgweetsi later returned to the drinking place carrying a knife and continued with the fight that ended earlier on. The victim tried to escape his assailant, but was stabbed by the accused. Emergency Medical Response Services were called and the victim was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Vryburg police detective sergeant Molefi Seothaeng investigated a murder case and arrested the suspect the same evening after fleeing the scene of crime. On 12 November 2018 the accused appeared in the Vryburg Magistrates Court where bail was granted and a after lengthy court appearances, John Goitsemodimo Mokgweetsi was sentenced on Thursday (30 June) to five years direct imprisonment by the Vryburg Regional Court.

He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).

The Acting District Commissioner, Colonel Mothusiotsile Kgwenyape commended the investigators and community who worked together to ensure that these perpetrators were arrested swiftly. He reiterated that we will not stand back to see that communities are threatened by rotten elements.

STELLALANDER-KURUMAN: The Northern Cape SAPS welcomes the life sentence secured through DNA links for the double rape in Kuruman. On 21 December 2014, a 16-year-old girl from Bothitong, Kuruman informed her mother she was raped by an unknown male.

The accused accosted his second female victim (14) on 31 December 2014, when he jumped out of a taxi, hit her with a bottle in the face and raped the girl.

The friends that was with the victim

during the New Year’s Eve celebrations fled on foot in different directions. Thorough investigations through a forensic DNA lead linked Kgotsietsile Mokomele (27) to both the rapes. Mokomele was arrested and

found guilty on both offences. On Thursday (7 July) Mokomele was sentenced to 15 years for the first rape and life sentence for the second rape. The Acting Provincial Commander

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Die AfriForum- buurtwagte in Christiana, Delareyville en Vryburg het gedurende Junie en begin-Julie hard gewerk om sigbaarheid in die onderskeie dorpe te verhoog. Altesaam 168 patrolleerders het 226 patrollies aangepak gedurende hierdie tydperk.

Die hoofdoel van die patrollies is om sigbaar in die gemeenskappe te wees en misdaad hok te slaan. Die AfriForum- buurtwag in Vryburg se brandspan het hulp verleen aan die brandweer tydens ’n brand. Die vuur is suksesvol geblus. Die AfriForum-buurtwag in Christiana het patrollies by winkels in die dorp verhoog nadat verskeie inbrake in die laaste paar weke plaagevind het. Sedert die verhoging van patrollies het die inbrake by ondernemings verminder. “Stellaland- buurtwagte sal voortdurend projekte aanpak en gereeld patrollies hou om misdaad in samewerking met die SAPD en ander veiligheidsinstansies hok te slaan en veiligheid te bevorder. Dit is belangrik dat gemeenskappe en organisasies hande vat om misdaad te bekamp. Die verhoogde sigbaarheid in dorpe speel ’n belangrike rol in gemeenskapsveiligheid en daarom is dit belangrik dat patrollies soos hierdie moet plaasvind,” sê JP Nel, AfriForum se distrikskoördineerder vir Stellaland. Die Stellaland-buurtwagte wil graag elke patrollie- lid en elke ander rolspeler wat deelgeneem het bedank vir hul opofferings.

STELLALANDER-DEBEN: The police in Deben are investigating a case of a 69-year-old woman, Goitsemang Tienah Tau, who is missing since 12 May 2022.

According to the family she is mentally instable. She has a brown complexion, grey afro hair, slender built, 1,58 m in height and Setswana speaking. The last time she was seen she was wearing a blue apron, purple headcover and blue tekkies. STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Die Polisie het in ‘n kennisgewing gedateer 1 Julie 2022, bekend gemaak dat hulle interpretasie van die Grondwethofuitsprake in beide die Fidelity en die SA Jagters saak beteken dat elke individu in besit van ‘n wapen nadat die lisensie verval het, mag aansoek doen vir ‘n nuwe lisensie vir so ‘n wapen.

Lisensies vir vervalde vuurwapenlisensies

Dit is belangrik om te weet dat dit nie nodig sal wees om die wapen by die Polisie in te handig nie, maar die wapen sal na die betrokke aangewese vuurwapenoffisier geneem moet word, vir verifiëring en die uitreik van ‘n voorgeskrewe sertifikaat deur die aangewese vuurwapenoffisier (DFO).

Verder sal die aansoek hanteer word as

‘n gewone aansoek vir ‘n nuwe lisensie.

Die persoon sal in besit moet wees van ‘n geldige bevoegdheidsertifikaat voordat die aansoek vir ‘n nuwe lisensie ingedien kan word. Indien jy nie in besit is van ‘n geldige bevoegdheidsertifikaat nie, sal jy eers moet aansoek doen vir ‘n hernuwing van bevoegdheid en na bevoegdheid uitgereik is, kan aansoek doen vir ‘n nuwe lisensie vir die betrokke wapen. Daar sal ook van jou verwag word om ‘n verklaring te onderteken waarin jy bevestig dat jy die wapen veilig in

‘n kluis , wat aan die voorgeskrewe vereistes voldoen, sal bewaar en dat daar nog nie ‘n kluisinspeksie by jou uitgevoer is nie. Jy sal ook moet bevestig dat jy bewus is van die feit dat indien jou lisensie-aansoek nie suksesvol is nie, jy 60 dae tyd het om van die wapen ontslae te raak. Na afloop van die 60 dae sal die wapen aan die Staat verbeurd verklaar word.

In kort voorsien die instruksies van die Polisie die volgende proses.

1. Jy neem jou wapen met die lisensie wat verval het, of ‘n afskrif daarvan, na jou DFO wat bevestig dat die wapen se besonderhede inderdaad korrek is en dat die wapen aan jou gelisensieer was.

2. Jy en die DFO onderteken die sertifikaat wat die wapen se besonderhede bevestig en wat bevestig dat jy aansoek doen (of sal

doen) vir ‘n nuwe lisensie daarvoor, dat jy die wapen sal berg op ‘n plek soos regulasie 68 voorskryf; en dat jy bewus is van die feit dat as jou aansoek om ‘n lisensie nie goedgekeur word nie, jy 60 dae tyd sal hê om van die wapen ontslae te raak deur dit te verkoop, te skenk, te deaktiveer of by die polisie in te handig vir vernietiging.

3. Sou jy nie gedurende die 60 dae van die wapen ontslae raak nie, bevestig jy dat jy weet dat die wapen verbeurd verklaar sal word aan die Staat en by die polisie ingehandig moet word vir vernietiging.

4. Jy sal dan die wapen behou en veilig moet bewaar hangende die afhandeling van jou aansoek vir ‘n nuwe lisensie. (Die kennisgewing maak geen melding van

‘n moontlike appél teen die afkeur van

‘n lisensie-aansoek nie. Ons kan aanvaar dat jy wel sal kan appelleer en ook ‘n hersieningsaansoek in die Hooggeregshof na die appél sal kan bring)

5. Indien jy ‘n geldige bevoegdheid het, kan jy dan aansoek doen vir ‘n nuwe lisensie vir die betrokke wapen en aan die nodige vereistes hiervoor voldoen. Jy sal die dokumentasie soos hier aangedui gereed moet hê saam met die aansoek.

6. Indien jy nie ‘n geldige bevoegdheid het nie, moet jy aansoek doen vir hernuwing van bevoegdheid. Wanneer jou bevoegdheid goedgekeur is, kan jy aansoek doen vir ‘n nuwe lisensie vir die wapen soos hierbo aangedui.

Wapens wat persone onder die amnestie ingehandig het en waarvoor hulle dan aansoek gedoen het, mag nie by die Polisie gaan haal word nie. Jy het reeds aansoek gedoen vir amnestie vir die onwettige besit

van die wapen en het ook reeds aansoek gedoen vir ‘n lisensie vir daardie wapen. Sou jou aansoek om ‘n lisensie goedgekeur word kan jy die wapen by die polisie gaan haal.

Indien die eienaar van die wapen oorlede is, bevestig die aangewese eksekuteur van die boedel dat jy die erfgenaam vir die wapen

is en word die aansoek soos enige ander gewone boedelwapen hanteer. Neem ook kennis dat die wapen oorgeplaas sal word na Staatsdepartement 983 wanneer jy van hierdie geleentheid gebruik maak. Jy sal dus die wapen kan behou en dit veilig bewaar, maar jy sal dit nie mag gebruik nie.

Verdagtes van ‘n inbraak is ook aan die SAPD oorhandig. In Sasolburg is

’n oorgrenspatrollie gehou, terwyl ‘n gesin bygestaan is tydens ’n brand by hulle woning. Die Hartbeesfontein- plaaswag het gehelp met die arrestasie van veediewe en ’n veediefstalpoging is ook gefnuik. In Potchefstroom was daar nie noemenswaardige voorvalle nie, wat ’n aanduiding daarvan is dat die sigbaarheid van die buurtwag vrugte afwerp. Die Stilfontein-buurtwag het hulp verleen

met die arrestasie van inbrekers en ook gesteelde koperkabels en dié verdagtes aan die SAPD oorhandig. In Wolmaransstad is verdagtes aangekeer wat verkeerstekens en koperkabels gesteel het. Die buurtwagte in die streek het ook steunopleiding, buurtwagleieropleiding en VOLK-opleiding ontvang. Daar is ook hommeltuigvlieёniers en protospanlede opgelei. “Die Mooirivier-buurtwagte is onontbeerlik in die gemeenskappe waar hulle funksioneer.

(Foto: verskaf) STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Vryburg Polocrosse Club that celebrates its 20th year of playing, also stands proud with a young man, Wian Botha, that was called up to the SA u/21-Protea team.

An appropriate gift for Vryburg Polocrosse Club’s 20th year celebration and a deserving award for Wian.

The SA u/21-team competed at an International event the weekend of 9 July, hosted by South Africa at the Underberg Polocrosse Club in KZN. Teams from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and the UK were all part of this exhilarating event.

Wian, head boy of Vryburg High School in 2019, has been part of Vryburg Polocrosse Club since a young boy, and has in the last five years shown his superb horsemanship and skills with the polocrosse racket. This drew the attention of the selectors and through his dedication to the sport, Wian has been rewarded with Protea Colours and a place in the u/21- Protea Team. (Image: supplied)
