Women' Zionist League.-The League held their monthly "at home" on Tuesda)T, the 12th inst., at the Memorial Hall. Mrs.

Ravid presided and welcomed the speaker of the afternoon, Mr. M. Melmet, ,.,,ho chose as his subject ''The Physical Emanci- pation of the Jewish Race."

Mr. Melmet traced the manner in which the hardy nomadic Jews oi ancient days, depending on their swords for their exist- ence, had degenerated in the ghettoes, los- ing their virility and strength. To-day, however the' speaker continued, the posi- tion of the Jew was changing. Jewish ath- letes were coming into prominence, and during the World War Jews had been ex- tremely well represented as combata11ts.

Mr . Fanny Sugarman, accompanied by Miss Maty Kumin, sang charmingly and was repeatedly encored. Mrs. Rosenberg proposed a vote of thanks to the speaker and the artists.

The hostesses of the afternoon were Mrs.

Millstein, l\frs. J anover, Mrs. Ravid and Mrs. Machanik.

Schlosberg, A. Grinblatt, A. Brick and M.

Jaffe.

A special word of congratulation is due to the producer, Mr. Sol Cohen, to whose efforts the great artistic success of .the play was largely due. Rabbi Hirsch made a presentation to him on behalf of the ca t, and thanked the Capitol Orchestra for the music.

"at home'' to some 250 members at the Memorial Hall on Sunday, the 17th inst., when the opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Mr. S. Jaffe, who is retiring from active work on account of ill-health.

H. Stein, the secretary. Mr. Jaffe suit- ably replied, and Mr. H. Shames thanked the ladies for the refreshments and the Judean Scouts for their assistance.

"GOLD DIGGERS" AT THE COLOSSEUM Warner Bros. achieve yet another great success in their production "Gold Diggers of 1933," a musical extravaganza, showing this week at the Colosseum Theatre. There is a strong cast, which is headed by War- ren Williams, Joan Blondell and Ruby Keeler. Spectacular scenes, plenty of hu- mour and many good musical numbers combine to make up an excellent entertain- ment. The supporting programme this week is good, and the Colosseum Orches- tra again excel themselves.
