Eighth Annual O.F.S. Young Israel C onf ere nee

TO BE HELD IN BLOEMFONTEIN

O

N the 6th and 7th of next month, delegates from the various societies of the Orange Free State will meet at the Communal Hall, Bloemfontein, to discuss Young Israel affairs, with par- ticular reference to this Province.

The movement in the Free State was in a padous plight when the Central Council assumed office, and the Council has i::ucccedecl in buildh1g up numerous soci ties. This is evidenced from the fact that the movement had only seven societi s twelve months ago, whereas thes"' now number 14.

The conference pl'Omises to be the most representative gathering of its kinrl ever held, but there are still several societies that have not yet . ubmitted the names of their delegate .

It is hopetl that the Bloemfontein community will be present at the pro- ce dings, and give the Youth movement every encouragement.

A

HERZL memo1·ial mass meeting, or- ganised by the combined Zionist Societies of Germiston took place at the Shul Hall on Sunday, 16th July, at 8 p.m., and proved the best attended Zionist cultural meeting of the year. In- spiring orntions were delivered by Dr.

D. 01·dman and Mr. M. L. Genu sow.

Mr. Genussow made a short peech in Hebrew and then continued in Yiddish, dealing mainly with the actual life and character of Theodor Herzl. Dr. D. Ord- man, speaking in English, d1·ew a living pictme of modern PalP..·tine-as seen by himself in his rec~nt visit - and con- sidered it as Herzl's dream being•

brought to a practical conclusion.

Cantor A. Rudy then intoned the Haskarah. The meeting decided to send a letter of condolence and sympathy to the widow of the late M. D. Hersch.
