Magalies Monster conquered
Despite freezing early morning temperatures of late, the annual Magalies Monster
Mountain Bike race at the pristine ATKV Buffelspoort was one of the main
sporting highlights of the past weekend. Rugby and the finals
of the 2022 French Open Tennis Championships were
the other main attractions.
Despite “big names”
competing in the Magalies Monster, the event is also popular among families who enjoy cycling as a family activity. This year’s Monster was the very first for the
group of friends and family above - Kean Spratt, Zahné
Barkhuizen, Kaila Spratt, Patrick Spratt and
Coenie Barkhuizen. See Rustenburg Herald of this week for more photographs and news on the 2022 Magalies
Monster.

BONUS - RUSTENBURG - “Please, if you have any information about the shooting that killed my brother, come forward.”
This is the plea of Marco Kidson of Rustenburg.
The Kidson family is offering a reward of R90 000 for the arrest and successful conviction of the people responsible for the death of Juandré Kidson (29) on 7 May. Juandré, his wife Johanette and their one-year-old baby daughter, Annabelle was travelling home from Rustenburg to Brits on that Saturday night. Near the R512 Randburg off-ramp, around 21:00, their Hyundai Santa Fe hit rocks that were placed across the road and a tyre was punctured. Juandré drove on, but had no other option than to pull off the road to change the tyre.
While he was busy, three men approached him. “My brother told the men that they can take everything they had with them. He pleaded with them not to hurt them. And then they shot him in the head,” Marco said. The robbers then shot Johanette in the shoulder while she was trying to shield her baby and prevent the men from grabbing the child out of her arms. If you have useful information regarding the incident, please contact Marco Kidson on 067 736 2609, or the investigating officer, Sgt Sebajane on 072 224 6805.

Wage strike ends at Sibanye
BONUS - RUSTENBURG - A wage strike that has been affecting Sibanye-Stillwater and its gold operations ended on Friday (3 June) after members agreed with the mining company’s latest offer of R1000.
The workers of Sibanye have settled on a increase of R1000 each year of the three-year wage agreement. They will receive R1000 for the first year, a R900 increase in the second year and a R750 increase in the third year.
The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) embarked on a wage strike on 10 March and have since struggled to reach an agreement with the employer.
At Friday’s meeting the union members agreed to accept the latest offer and called off the strike.
BONUS - RUSTENBURG - Impala Platinum (Implats) is set to list on A2X Markets (A2X), with its ordinary shares to be available for trade on A2X from 13 June.
The company will retain its primary listings on the JSE and its Level 1 American Depositary Receipt programme in the US.
Implats’ issued share capital will be unaffected by the secondary listing on A2X.
Implats has mining operations in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Canada and employs more than 56 000 people across its operations.
“The Implats counter is a high-quality and liquid scrip and we are pleased to have the opportunity to offer it to the broadest possible range of investors. This secondary listing complements our primary listing and provides investors with a competitively priced choice of venue to transact in the company’s shares,” says Implats CFO Meroonisha Kerber.
“Implats investors gain exposure to a global precious metals portfolio, comprising operating PGM (Platinum group metals) assets, projects and a toll- refining business. Together, our operations are well positioned to capture the benefits of the full PGM value chain through integrated processing facilities, including wholly-owned smelters, as well as base and precious metal refineries.
“This secondary listing on A2X aligns with international best practice and supports the growth and development of South Africa’s capital markets,” Kerber adds. The listing will bring the number of instruments available for trade on A2X to 68, with a combined market capitalisation of about R4.5 trillion.
A2X is a licensed stock exchange that provides a secondary listing venue for companies. It is regulated by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and the Prudential Authority in terms of the Financial Markets Act.
