Salisbury celebrated the 50th anpi- versary of the Zionist Movement at a function in the Jewish Guild Hall, which was crowded.

Mr. S. Lasovsky, chairman of the Salisbury Zionist Society, presided.

and gave interesting facts about the history of the Zionist Movement in Salisbury, speaking on uThe Growth of Zionism in the years I have taken an active part in Salisbury". He show d how the Movement in Salis- bury grew through the year and paid tribute to the Rev. J. J. Rosin and Mr. M. Stein, two of the Zionist workers who originally organised the Zionist Society in Salisbury, and who were present at the function, as well as to Mr. H. Shapiro, Mr. Hoffman, Mr. B. S. Leon, Mr. Nathan. the Rev.

Konvisser and Mr. A. Lessem, past chairmen of the society.

"Zionism amongst the Sephardic communities of the world" '•as dealt with by Rabbi Dr. M. Papo. .Rev. M.

Konvisser spoke on "Fifty Years of Zionism".

Mr. Mervyn Lasovsky spoke on

"The part played by the Zionist Youth Society towards the attainment of our

aims for a National Home".

Mrs. E. Gelfand dealt with the work of Wizo and pointed out that the Women's Zionist Society

in

Salis- bury was formed by Dr. Weizmann's wife in 1932. She paid tribute to Mesdames Leah Nathan Muriel Ro in, Fanny Gordon a~d Hilda :g,rikler.

A musical programme followed the artistes being the Misses Paul~

May Lasovsky, Amy Benatar, Tatahe Ranson, Elsie Mizrahi and Madam Bersin.

Mr. L. E. Banet thanked the speakers and artistes and also made special mention of the work done in the past by Mr. Conrad Nathan and the past chairman, Mr. A. Lessem.

He also paid tribute to Mr. Sam Lasovsky, Mr. I. Lasovsky, the Rev.

Konvisser, Rabbi Papo. Mr. Mervyn Lasovsky and Mrs. Galfand.

Mr. Sam Lasovsky thanked Mrs.

Banet for arranging the function and all those who had assisted, especially Miss Sonia Noar, Mesdames S.

Cowen, R. Anolick and I Shapiro and Messrs. Cyril Banet, Norma~

Donin and Bernard Cohen.
