A CHARITY BALL.

The ball held at the City Hall on Sat- urday night under the auspices of the Rand Jewish Women's Benevolent Society proved to be a most successful function.

The Jazz Maniacs orchestra upplied the music, which was most keenly enjoyed.

The arrangements were in the hands of an energetic committee composed of the following: Chairlady, Mrs. Melzer; Vice- Chair, Mrs. Gabriel; Hon Treasurer, Mrs.

Hurwitz was in charge of the novelty stall.

It is hoped that as a re ult of the money raised the society will be able to continue its good work on behalf of poor Jewish familie ..

An intere:-;ting wedding took pl< c on Sunday, the 7th inst., when Miss Ger- trudP Brenner, daughter of h. and l\lrs.

H. HrPnner of Beaconsfi Id and Mr.

late Mrs .. M. If::rael of Kimberle~·, were married in the Memo1·ial Roacl Syna- gogue. The Rev. M. Konviser officiated, assisted by antor Rudy. The latter was accompanied by members of the Kimber- ley Amateur Orchestra, of which the b1·icle is a member.

The unte1·fuhrcrs were Mr. and Mrs. H.

D1·enner and Mr. and Mrs. Solly Jackson.

Miss Frieda Brenner attendee( the bride as maid of honour and the bridesmaids were the Misses D. Datnow, L. Salkinder and Ethyl Brenner, while Adv. D. Cohen, Mr. N. Edelstein and Mr. H. Sherman acted as groomsmen. Anita Furman and Tda Brenner were the flower girls. Mr.

Hany Israel ably carried out the duties of best man and the canopy-holde1·s were Messrs. J. Gorohovsky, H. Salkinder, L.

Salkindcr and J. Brenner.

After the ceremony a reception was held at the Constance Hall, which was tastefully decorated. Among the numer- ous present8, the bride and bridegroom were the recipients of a canteen of cut- lery from the Kirrberley Jewish Guild Mi·. Herman, chairman of the Guild, pre- sented same on behalf of the society.

Miss Brenner had been assistant Hon.

Secretary of the Guild and Mr. Israel an active member of the Committee and sports section.

TALMUD TORAH BALL.

A Talmud Tornh Ball, under the aus- pices of the United Hebrew Schools of Johannesburg, will be held at the H.O.D.

Hall, De Villiers Street, on Wednesday, 24th inst. Gaby Pejmer's orchestra has been er_gaged and arrangements are be- ing made for patrons to have a most en- joyable time.

It is hoped that the Jewish community in Johannesburg will support thL func- tion, which is also being given as a mark of appreciation to the honorary collectors in the recently held "Talmud Torah Sun- day."
