Sy vrou Rika, drie kinders en 10 kleinkinders bedank almal vir hulle meegevoel en omgee gedurende die tyd. Roelf se nagedagtenis sal altyd in almal met wie hy in aanraking was, se harte bly voortleef.

BRITS POS – BRITS – A business owner in Brits was carjacked on Saturday, 24 July 2021 when offloading her workers at Oukasie.
Allegedly four armed men who held her at gunpoint and pulled her from the vehicle. The woman made a run for it and the suspects sped off in her vehicle. The spokesperson for SAPS Brits confirmed that carjacking case had been opened at SAPS Brits. Apparently, the vehicle had been found, but SAPS Brits were unable to confirm the location.

• A well-maintained car is less likely to break down and leave you vulnerable.
• Plan your route and let someone know what your route is and when to expect you at your destination.
• Always check the rear-view mirror to see if you are being followed.
• Avoid driving with your windows open and keep the doors locked and put all valuables out of sight.
• Avoid distractions while driving such as using a cellphone.
• If you suspect you are being followed, drive to your nearest police station or a busy public area.
• When approaching a red traffic light, slow down so that you only reach it when it turns green especially during the night.
• If possible, park in a central, well-lit place, preferably with guards on duty.
• When stopping behind another vehicle, leave half a vehicle length in front so you can make an emergency escape if necessary.
• Avoid driving through unfamiliar areas.
• Avoid driving late at night/early hours of the morning when the roads are quiet.
• Drive in the centre lane away from pedestrians where possible.
• If possible, never drive alone.
• Never follow routine routes when driving; change on a regular basis.
• If possible, avoid driving in the dark.
• Carjackers may stage a minor accident - if your vehicle is bumped from behind and you do not feel comfortable with the individual involved in the situation, indicate he/she must follow you and drive to the nearest police station or any busy public area for help, like a fuel filling station.

BRITS POS – BRITS - Motorists travelling in the North West, especially in the Bojanala Platinum District are urged to exercise caution when stopping next to the road or under a bridge or when ordered to stop by other motorists, as these thugs could be potential carjackers.
Motorists urged to be vigilant
A number of carjackings by unknown suspects were recently reported in Kanana (Klerksdorp) and Boitekong.
Much closer to home, on Friday, 23 July 2021, a woman (38) drove from Oukasie to Brits to pick up her husband. She allegedly stopped the vehicle, but was approach by three men who held her at gunpoint. One of the men forced her out of the vehicle and they drove off with it.
Motorists are requested to exercise the utmost caution when stopped by unknown
persons and to report such incidents to the closest police station. If stopped by Police of Traffic officials and should you feel unsafe/threatened, put on your hazard lights and slowly drive to the nearest police station.
Never ever offer a lift to a hitchhiker and do not stop next to the road or under a bridge, except for an emergency. People stopping to relieve themselves on the side of the road have also fallen victim to this crime.

The victims were tied up and pushed into the rear of the truck and the suspects drove off. They were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and their cellphones. The suspects pulled off the road, left the rear door open and fled the scene. The men were able to free themselves and reported the case to the Letlhabile police station.
“We can confirm that a case of armed robbery was registered at Letlhabile police station subsequent to the incident,” says SAPS spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde.

*In another case around 13:00 on Tuesday, July 20, the driver of a truck and his colleague were delivering bread in Slaagboom village in the Bedwang policing area when they were forced off the road at gunpoint. Both victims were violently pulled from the truck and robbed of the cash sales money.
The SAPS spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde confirmed that a case of armed robbery was opened at Bedwang police station. Anyone with information can contact Detective Warrant Officer Seleke of Bedwang Detectives on 082 644 859.
Armed robbers target two delivery truck drivers
BRITS POS – BRITS - The driver of a bread delivery truck was offloading stock at a shop in Lotlhakaneng, Letlhabile on Saturday, July 24 around 13:00 when all of a sudden three men approached him and his colleague and they were held at gunpoint.
Missing child’s body found inside vehicle
BRITS POS – BRITS - The Assen police are investigating a case of inquest after the body of a 3-year-old child was found inside a vehicle at a local vehicle workshop at Msholozi informal settlement, close to Assen on Friday, July 23 at about 14:00.
Khothatso Paul Rampa had already been reported missing on Friday, July 9. “According to information received, the owner of the workshop alerted the police after discovering the body of the child,” says Maria Nkabinde, SAPS spokesperson. Investigation into the matter continues.
MEC Lehari wishes traffic officer PI Ditibane a speedy recovery
BRITS POS – BRITS - Community Safety and Transport Management MEC Sello Lehari wishes the injured traffic officer, Provincial Inspector (PI) Christopher Ditibane stationed at Brits Provincial Traffic a speedy recovery.
Ditibane is recuperating at home, after being hit by a car in the line of duty last month in Mmakau. The officer is stationed at Brits Provincial Traffic.
MEC Lehari says Ditibane is a fighter who doesn’t give up easily on his condition.
“The way you were injured and the fact that you are out of hospital now shows how great a fighter you are. This is also a good sign that you will indeed recover and we thank the Almighty for that,” said Lehari who visited the officer at his home. The suspect was arrested and the case is still under investigation. MEC Lehari urges law enforcement officers in the province to always exercise caution when they are on duty. “We nearly lost a very dedicated and selfless officer as a result of a reckless motorist and we need to bring them to book while being careful of such unforeseen and unfortunate incidents,” urged MEC. In 2019, MEC Lehari expressed his high regards to PI Ditibane and his colleague Ontiretse Mogokonyane for the exemplary conduct they displayed when they arrested somebody who tried to bribe them.

The first three-day course, to be run from 23 to 28 August 2021, will focus on long-term systems thinking and planning in the minerals sector. This equips leaders with skills and insights to understand, anticipate and respond to the challenges of 21st century mining – including the development of scenarios and strategies.
WMI course presenter Julie Courtnage highlights that SA mining culture is rooted in its historical context, with top-down management styles, linear thinking, and insufficient flexibility or adaptability.
This limits the sector’s capacity to successfully meet the demands of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) with sound strategic and operational decision-making.
“In volatile social and economic conditions like those experienced in the SA mining sector, it is vital to understand root causes when developing management strategies,” said Courtnage.
“Uncertainty arising from the national regulatory landscape and international commodity fluctuations also impact on management approaches.”
According to WMI Visiting Professor Fred Cawood, introducing technology into this environment poses challenges at all levels of leadership, complicating the sector’s advance into the 21st century. He emphasised the need for minerals-sector leaders to understand this global VUCA context, and to develop skills to address longer-term issues and consequences.
“This short course will allow participants to engage with key topics such as the implications of Industry 4.0 for the minerals market, as well as mining in the circular economy and the growing social expectations of the sector,” said Professor Cawood. “It will also highlight the importance of systems thinking in the mining industry.”
The focus of the WMI’s second course, from 4 to 8 October 2021, will be on transformed leadership
– concentrating on integrity, accountability and participatory engagement. The course will help delegates to understand leadership as an individual, within the context of their organisations and broader society.
“We will explore how self-awareness contributes to leadership, and the role of self-leadership in ethical decision-making and organisational performance,”
said Courtnage. “Leadership is about influence and change – so it is the leader who must change first.”
She said the qualities of self-leadership support decision-makers in engaging with a range of stakeholders, often with different or even conflicting perspectives. Self-leadership was also vital in managing the trust deficit between stakeholders in mining.
“Indicators of low self-leadership, like defensiveness and reactivity, will undermine constructive relationships,” she warned.
Professor Cawood emphasised that personal mastery was fundamental to a successful career, and that this course was about people getting the basics right – including ethics and personal value systems.
In presenting these courses, Courtnage shares her 30 years of valuable experience as an environmental scientist and sustainable development practitioner in the mining sector. Her past roles have included SHE Policy Manager and Sustainable Development Operations Manager for the global Anglo American group. She has developed and delivered numerous leadership courses for Masters degree, Executive Education and MBA programmes.

WMI courses to empower mining leaders
BRITS POS – BRITS - As the mining sector gains pace despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Wits Mining Institute (WMI) will be hosting two of its ‘Empowering Leaders’ short courses in 2021 – in a face-to- face format.

Sibanye-Stillwater, the No. 1 platinum miner, Impala Platinum Holdings and Anglo American Platinum said they plan to scale up solar and wind farms for
their own use to cut reliance on state-owned utility Eskom Holdings, some of whose aging coal-fired plants have failed to keep up with electricity demand.
South Africa has been dogged by power outages since 2005 and rolling blackouts are a big problem for the world’s deepest mines, which are often forced to reduce some operations when power is rationed.
By using more renewables, the miners may also ease pressure from investors wary of carbon-intensive industries as the shift from fossil fuels accelerates.
“Eskom has a shortfall, they can’t supply the necessary energy at the moment,” James Wellsted, a Sibanye spokesperson, said in an interview. “We are reliant on Eskom and its coal-fired power, so our greenhouse gas-emission levels are high
relative to our peers and these are part of the steps to get to carbon neutrality.”
Sibanye has approved plans to build a
50MW solar plant to provide power to its gold mines. It’s also assessing plans for a 175MW facility at its Rustenburg platinum mines and for additional supplies to come from a 250MW wind farm, Wellsted said.
The company will outline construction
timelines at its half-year results next month.
Anglo Platinum aims to start generating from the end of 2023 about 100 megawatts of renewable power at Mogalakwena, or about a quarter of the daytime electricity demand of the world’s biggest palladium mine, said Jana Marais, a spokeswoman for the miner.
The company is also mulling the addition of 220 MW of solar capacity for a proposed hydrogen-powered haul-truck project.
Implats is weighing options to use solar power at all its mines in South Africa and Zimbabwe, said Johan Theron, a spokesman for Implats. While the mines can’t run solely on renewables, the alternative energy would help improve the company’s green credentials.
“All investors want to understand is what are you doing to decarbonize and to become a more sustainable business,” Theron said.
“It’s a concern about the future and whether everybody is doing their bit.
If we do nothing and we continue to use coal power like we use today, then in 10 to 20 years we will have a problem.”

Met die vorming van ryp is die temperatuur onder vriespunt en word van die ryppunt-temperatuur gepraat. Met rypvorming verander die waterdamp nie eers in waterdruppeltjies nie, maar dadelik in yskristalletjies.
Dou wat reeds gevorm het, kan wel agterna vries om bevrore dou (ysdruppels) te vorm, maar hierdie bevrore dou is nie ryp nie. In sekere omstandighede kan dit so koud in die onderste luglaag wees dat reën ook eers vries nadat dit geval het en nie in die bolug wanneer dit as sneeu of hael uitsak nie.
Alhoewel die lug in ons omgewing dikwels baie droog in die winter is, is daar soms te min waterdamp in die lug om rypkristalle te vorm en dit duidelik sigbaar is as Jantjie Ryp wel kom kuier het.
Die twee algemeenste soort ryp is witryp en swartryp.
Witryp kan met sneeu vergelyk word omdat dit altyd kristalle is en nie gevriesde water of dou nie.
Dié kristalle kom meestal in die vorm van waaiers, vere, naalde of skubbe voor.
Dit word in wolklose nagte, wanneer die wind nie waai nie, gevorm. Witryp word gevorm wanneer die lug naaste aan die grondoppervlak vinniger as die hoër lug
afkoel en temperature onder vriespunt daal bereik. Hoe droër dit is, hoe laer die ryppunt.
As die humiditeit hoog genoeg is, sal die ryppunt ook relatief hoog wees, maar dit sal altyd laer as 0ºC wees.
Die ryppunt is die temperatuur wat die lug moet bereik om atmosferiese vog te laat vries. Witryp is die direkte oorgang van atmosferiese vog (die gasfase) na yskristalle (die vaste fase).
Dou is die oorgang van atmosferiese vog na water (die vloeibare fase), ‘n proses wat ons as kondensasie ken.
Waar witryp hoofsaaklik in wolklose nagte, waar geen wind waai nie, gevorm word, gaan swartryp grootliks met redelike sterk winde en temperature onder vriespunt gepaard.
Daar kan wolke in die lug wees. ’n Laag yskoue lug word skielik ingewaai, wat temperature vinnig laat daal.
Die gevolg is dat die selsap van plantselle vries en bars met swartryp. Geen ys is op die plante te sien nie, omdat die lugvog naby die grondoppervlak te laag is.
Al hoe jy weet dat ‘n swartryp sy ysige swaard geswaai het, is dat jy die volgende oggend sal sien hoe plante en blare swart verkleur. (Bron: Mieliestronk).

I have received my Covid-19 vaccination: What now?
BRITS POS - BRITS -- The vaccination is a safe and sim-ple way to strengthen our immune responses against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.According to the National Insti-tute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 allow a person to develop antibodies and T-cells to certain parts of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, so that when a person is exposed to the real virus, they can protect themselves against infection.
The vaccines protect from severe disease, hospitalisation and death, however, presently it remains un-clear whether the vaccine can stop the virus from being contracted or transmitted.
Here are some things you need to know after you have been vaccinated:
Do I still need to wear a mask and practice physical distancing after I am vaccinated?
Will I be able to spread the virus?
Yes, presently it is unclear if Covid-19 vaccines provide com-plete protection from infection with mild Covid-19, allowing the spread of the virus. NICD says that evidence shows that Covid-19 vac-cines protect from severe disease, hospitalisation and death.
If I have been vaccinated against
Covid-19, can I still get the disease? Although the disease will likely be milder in comparison to those who are unvaccinated, vaccinated individuals may still be at risk of contracting Covid-19.“More evidence is required to confi rm whether Covid-19 vaccines provide protection against asymp-tomatic or mild disease. Presently it remains unclear whether vaccina-ted individuals can still spread the disease to others, therefore caution is still required,” reads a post on the NICD website.
Do I still need to quarantine if I am exposed to a case of Covid-19 after I have been vaccinated?
Yes. A vaccinated person should still quarantine (self-isolate) for 10 days following exposure to a case of Covid-19. Although the evidence suggests that people who are vacci-nated are less likely to get infected after exposure, at this time point there are too few people who are vaccinated for a change in quaran-tine guidelines. In South Africa, too few people have received the Co-vid-19 vaccine, and circulating virus levels are currently too high in order to relax public health measures.
How long does it take after a Covid-19 vaccination before I am protected?
The body’s immune system takes up to 14 days to develop strong immune responses after the first dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. With mRNA vaccines (e.g. Pfi zer), there is some protection two weeks after the fi rst dose, but the best protection is achieved after the second dose.
What are the most common side eff ects after getting a Co-vid-19 vaccine?
The most common side eff ects include tenderness at the injection site, headache, fever, fatigue, chills or diarrhoea. These side eff ects range from mild to moderate, and may feel similar to a flu-like illness for a couple of days.People who might experience more serious symptoms like severe headache, severe abdominal pain or severe limb pain should

On the eve of his departure to Japan, Rocco van Rooyen, currently ranked number 8 in the world in javelin throw, appealed to Lottoland for financial assistance to help cover his fixed expenses at home. During the course of the year, Van Rooyen needed to take several weeks of unpaid leave from his work as a pastor, to be overseas to prepare for and compete in the Tokyo Olympics. He would not have been able to meet his financial commitments without a sponsorship like this.
Earlier this year Van Rooyen, who is ranked as one of the top 5 athletes in South Africa, financed his own trip to compete in Finland in preparation for the Olympics. There he notched up a second and third place in two international competitions respectively. Although his personal best is recorded as 87.62m, his dream for the 2021 Olympics is to throw at least his season’s best of 85.97m, which should bring an Olympic medal home to South Africa.
Van Rooyen, who has not signed up a professional sponsor yet, contacted Lottoland this week in the hope of securing some financial assistance.
He says that it really was a shot in the dark, but on the back of the popular TV series Dankie, Lottoland on kykNet, he was hoping that Lottoland would consider his plight. Dankie, Lottoland is currently in its second season, every
week showcasing the support and assistance provided by Lottoland South Africa to various charity organisations and individuals in need.
Lottoland will be making R16 m available this year to help South Africans across the nation who are struggling during these difficult times.

Literally the night before Van Rooyen boarded a flight to Tokyo, the Lottoland team arrived at his house in Cape Town to personally present him with the green Lottoland envelope, containing a letter pledging its support. Van Rooyen says the generous financial assistance received from Lottoland will enable him to focus on bringing home an Olympic medal.
‘I am so grateful to Lottoland. Thanks to this sponsorship, I will not have the worry and
financial strain of creating debt to keep up payments for fixed expenses back home during the weeks that I will not be earning a salary.’ Maryke Haywood, head of marketing at Lottoland says: ‘It’s a privilege for us to extend a helping hand to an athlete as talented as Rocco and we wish him everything of the best in the Olympics.

BRITS POS – BRITS - The 2021 Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player will not take place this year as a result of the restrictions placed on events and spectators in South Africa because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The European Tour, Nedbank and Sun International jointly agreed that the much anticipated 40th anniversary of this tournament, scheduled to take place at the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City from 11-14 November 2021, would not be feasible under the current restrictions in both the sports and hospitality industries.
Mike Brown, Chief Executive Nedbank Group, said: “The current covid environment in South Africa is extremely challenging, and we feel that to host a tournament of the magnitude and prestige of the Nedbank Golf Challenge would not be feasible or prudent.”
“As Africa’s Major, this is a tournament that means so much to so many people and it is renowned for world class golf and corporate hospitality.
It would simply not be possible to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Nedbank Golf Challenge in an appropriate manner at this time. We remain committed to celebrating this milestone, and as such will focus our efforts on working towards the 2022 Nedbank Golf Challenge.”
Anthony Leeming, Chief Executive Sun International, said: “The current restrictions within the hospitality industry mean that Sun City will not be in a position to fully showcase the 40th anniversary of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, and provide the world class experience the golfers and fans are accustomed to. The tournament deserves no less, and although this is a disappointing decision to have to make, it is the right one at this stage.”
Keith Pelley, Chief Executive European Tour, said: “The 40th anniversary of the Nedbank Golf Challenge is a momentous occasion, and as such it is only right that this milestone is celebrated in a manner deserving of this event, and also when South Africa’s passionate golf fans can properly share in this moment.”
Tournament host Gary Player, said: “I understand and appreciate the immense consideration that went into this decision. As tough as it is for all of us who love the Nedbank Golf Challenge and who desperately want to see it played, I support the decision taken as one that is in the best interests of a tournament that is very dear to all of us.”
