CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS

B. Suggestions

Based on the findings, several suggestions could be made, as follows:

1. For students

The students were suggested to practice speaking English regularly. It led the way to understand teacher’s explanation easily during learning. Also, they should pay more attention to teacher’s explanation.

2. For teachers

Teachers were suggested to apply storytelling technique in teaching speaking since it was a very effective technique in improving students’ speaking skill.

3. For further researchers

Further researchers were suggested to apply storytelling technique in other level or class of students. They could also apply this technique in other fields of language such as focusing on enhancing students’ vocabularies, etc. This research was expected to give contribution to literature source or as a guidance in conducting further research especially on classroom action research on language.

4. For school

It was suggested for the schools to apply storytelling technique as one of the educational systems in increasing students’ achievement especially on English language learning.

Nyi Roro Kidul

Once upon a time, there lived a king named Munding Wangi. The king had a very beautiful daughter named Dewi Kadita. Dewi Kadita was also known as Dewi Srengenge. Actually, the king wanted to have a son so that one day he could lead the kingdom as his successor.

Once he thought of marrying a royal lady. Then the King discussed this with the Empress.

"Empress, I really want to have a son, so that one day he could replace me when I am old," said the King.

"I just obey what the King wants. Even if it is necessary for the King to marry again, I will fully support your decision," said the empress.

Then, King Munding Wangi married again to a royal maid named Dewi Mutiara.

Dewi Mutiara had a very good temperament. They had a son.

“Oh, how happy I am, I have a son. Later when I'm old, there will be a child to replace me, "said the King while shedding tears because he couldn't hold back his happiness.

“I'm happy too, Father," said Dewi Srengenge smiling.

Dewi Mutiara, who was known to have a good temper, turned bad. One time, she had an evil plan. She managed to bewitch Dewi Srengenge. Dewi Srengenge finally got a skin disease caused by the witchcraft of Dewi Mutiara. Seeing this, Dewi Mutiara tried to persuade the King to expel Dewi Srengenge.

“King, what if we just expel Dewi Srengenge from this kingdom. The skin disease can later spread and be contagious in this kingdom,” said Dewi Mutiara.

"Actually, I feel sorry for her, but if that's your wish, I'll comply with it," said the King.

Dewi Srengenge left the kingdom because she had been expelled by her own father. Dewi Srengenge left the kingdom sincerely and with full patient, no grudge and hatred in her heart. She went towards the southern sea. Suddenly someone called out for her to throw herself into the sea.

"Hey, beautiful girl, throw yourself into this sea," said Dewa. The voice repeatedly invited Dewi Srengenge to throw herself into the sea.

"Who is calling me," asked Dewi Srengenge.

71

"I am The God who inhabits this sea, now throw yourself into the sea!"

Then, Dewi Srengenge obeyed God's command. Slowly, she entered the sea and she turned into a very beautiful goddess. Now people call her the Queen of the South Coast or Nyi Roro Kidul.
